At one point, Reyl had a pet, probably a big dog. She didn't really 'love' it due to her nature, but she did pet it and give it food and in turn it was used to help locate and attack her enemies. It was put down by someone who caught it off guard. That person didn't live more than a couple minutes afterwards, and said minutes were incredibly painful. Duncan is more attached to his anthropomorphic form than he is to his humanoid form. It's not that he's averse to his human form, he simply doesn't care and can't be bothered to go through the motion of transforming from one to the other.
I really love that headcanon! The bottom one would be canon if he weren't in a coma and unable to react, but I can imagine that in his sleep his eyes sometimes open and do have that look!
