"Oh man, your hair and horns are super pretty. Do you use anything special to take care of them? A friend of mine has horns she's really sensitive about, and I figure knowing proper horn care might help her feel better about them!"
ANSWER:
He hadn't expected that question, but he should have. The blond grinned as he answered. "Your guess on how it works is about as good as mine, or at least that's what I'd say if I didn't remember how it came about. It's kinda complex, but I'll do my best!" He offered a wink to the cute Oliv. Something about their glare seemed weirdly charming, and he wondered if it was just a case of 'resting bitch face' like his uncle. All brightness and smiles, he began his explanation.
"See, it all started in the womb, and I swear I'm not just being a smartass. See, my twin brother absorbed me and I died, but apparently we'd developed our souls super early in development cuz... I actually don't know that one, but anyway! I kinda ghosted around in there for a bit, hung out with him and stuff. He died like... six months later?" He frowned thoughtfully, then shook his head. "No, it was closer toward the end. Eight months." With a firm nod, he continued forward. "Anyway, because I was a ghost, I understood a lot more of what was going on, and I knew Mom a little already. Not limited by brain growth, that sort of thing. So, I learned real quick how to possess a body and force its heart to beat until my brother's body and my ghost became one person—my brother, he moved on, at least temporarily."
The ghost boy pushed his bangs from his face, though they were hardly in the way. It gave him a moment to review what he'd said thus far: to ensure it was everything. It seemed like it was, but something felt missing until he remembered a part that wasn't included in the question.
"Oh, and the Hunter part, that comes from Mom. Hunters, they're a sort of human-supernatural hybrid, where the supernatural ancestry's so far back it's usually hidden, but with the right genetics and the right triggers, that heritage just kinda moves to the foreground a little bitty bit, and it gives things like super fast healing, crazy strength, better senses, nosebleeds around magic-based creatures, and sometimes lets you get to use the abilities of your ancestor!" His hair bobbed as he nodded. "Downsides though, you share their weaknesses, too. Sage smoke in high enough concentrations could force me to leave my body—my brother's body, but he has one of his own now, and he said I could keep this one for now, to keep Mom and Dad happy."
He trailed off. "Oh, and silver causes huge burns cuz it's got magic-eating properties. That one's universal, I think. Makes me sad cuz it means I can only look and not touch stuff like real silver earrings. Even alloys, man!" He shook his head. "Anyway, I promise I'm more like Casper than his uncles, if you've heard of them." Kindall's bright smile offered only warmth as the cheerful boy hoped that he answered well enough for Oliv.
He opened his eyes to get another look. Sure, he could smell lots about them: places they went frequently, common emotions, certain physical traits, and more. Still, he thought they were interesting, though their unease did warn him not to get too close or touchy without an invitation.
