Ask a question to the user above you!

Posted 5 years, 10 months ago (Edited 4 months, 9 days ago) by hedgemaze

We have lots of threads to ask questions to or about characters, but what about the users? In the vein of the Say something to the TH user above you! thread and the I want to see a TH user who... thread (and serving basically as a non-anonymous CuriousCat), this is a thread to help you get to know your fellow TH users better by asking the person above you a question. In return, the person below you will pose a question to you. After you're asked a question, edit your post with your answer!

If you're uncomfortable or don't want to answer the question you were given for any reason, just say so and leave a fun fact about yourself so the game still serves its purpose. If a question is truly problematic, message me with any concerns.

Rules:

  • Don't ask questions that are very personal or could be uncomfortable, and bear in mind that many TH users are minors, so while I encourage you to look at the profile of the user above you and ask about something mentioned if you like (like their pets, their hobbies, or their current project), please don't ask very personal questions like exactly where someone lives.
  • Try to ask something fun or interesting, but it's fine if you don't know the person above you at all-- getting to know each other better is the point of this thread! It's fine to ask something general like what their hobbies are, who their favorite fictional character is, how they came up with their username, which of their own characters is their favorite, or how they found ToyHouse.
  • Of course, it's great if you ask something more specific, too! If you know they have a lot of fandom characters, you might ask how they got into that fandom, or if they have a unique art style, you might ask how they developed it!
  • There's another thread for specific questions about characters, and another for worlds, but you can ask general/broader questions about a person's creations here, like how long they've been working on their story, or what inspires or influences them. I'm not going to keep writing examples, but you get the idea. Just use common sense and try to get to know your fellow TH users better!
  • You can ask multiple questions in your comment if you want to, but only one is fine, too. This can be as in-depth or as casual as you like.
  • Please ping the person above you so you make sure that they see your question! If you're not sure how to do this, you simply type @THEIRUSERNAME, and they will be notified! This will not work if you edit the ping into your comment later (like if you wanted to claim and then edit your question in); you must put it in when you first submit the comment.
  • You are NOT ALLOWED to skip anyone in this thread. If you cannot see the post above you because the poster or you have blocked each other, wait for another person to comment before replying to the thread. Feel free to bump the thread to encourage others to participate!
  • Wait at least a couple of posts before going again.
  • Edit your original comment with your answer to keep this clear; please DO NOT add new comments to the thread just to answer someone's question. This gets confusing. Take it to private messages if you want to have an ongoing conversation.
  • You can bump the thread as often as you like; I don't mind.
  • Be nice and have fun!   Please don't be rude if someone asks you a question you've already answered before! If that happens, you may link your previous response if you don't want to go over it again, but I recommend adding something new to say about the topic, if you can!
  • Want to play the game in reverse? Answer a question from the user above!

The first person can either ask me something or just claim a spot!

Edit: my answer

"Hedgemaze Expo" is the name of the main characters' band in my comic! I've been using either HedgemazeExpo or Hedgemaze as a username ever since, which is to say since 2003! Most people just call me Hej for short now.

The name itself doesn't mean much of anything, other than that I liked both words and liked the sort of paradoxical nature of an exposition dedicated to huge structures that can't be moved (what do they exhibit, photos? bush samples? tiny mazes?). In terms of the comic, it's just supposed to be a unique, kind of awkward, and silly band name, because in-story, it's an inside joke between my characters Jill and Amber.

I have two questions, what kinds of podcasts do you listen to and what's your favourite thing about your country?

"which subject do you usually prefer? Chemistry or geography?" I love and am good at both, but I definitely prefer chemistry.

"are there other subjects or themes in OCs you're interested in?" I'm... not really sure, nothing's coming to mind right now, though that being said some of my friends do have other projects that I find cool, for example this one.

Kogami

Alexg47 Since you have OCs that's based off the periodic tables and countries; which subject do you usually prefer? Chemistry or geography? (Assuming you're good at both to have characters based off them) If this have been asked before then, are there other subjects or themes in OCs you're interested in?

I've explained the full rules off-site~ (and here kinda?) For summary though, it's basically just fighting elements against another person in a battle (like say, waterbending vs firebending off each other?) and the "Heart" (aka a rune circle that's attached to your left hand, if you're chosen to own it) is the main thing that controls it.

I've metaphorize the powers like

  • Your misfortune = the coin you insert before playing an arcade game
  • The "Heart" = the controller you get after inserting the coin
  • The gameplay = like controlling elements in any fantasy games with your own hands, but literally in real life, in the daylight

Technically it's pretty much summoning elements and such (which is quite basic but ahah it works like that) but treated as actual tournaments so chaos wouldn't happen or people will misuse the powers for something else that it's glorified as some kind of special sports... Not exactly a thing that one should call it a "game" but that's also one of the biggest conflict in the plot :'D

Hopefully that explains! (Feel free to ask further if I wasn't clear enough)

@Lehmurix I'm honestly curious as to why you put "Paired with" in your ocs bio. What do you look when pairing your oc with another? Is it like a ship or an official couple? What is (are if there's more) your favourite pairing out of all the other pairing you have?

Ah yes, my 2015 project which i procastinate and forgot AHAH It's basically a story of childhood friends reincarnated and finding missing flowers to reunite again. Along their journey, they discovered many secrets of their childhood friend that might change their perspective on said friends. I can't say it's 100% original but most of them came from my head! But Willow was meant to be an adopt inspired by Reimi (A jjba character) and i end up falling for her so i kept her and she played an important role to the story.

Swissy Could you tell me more about Amaranth? What is it about, and did anything inspire the characters or story?

What is your muse for writing, typically? Do you have a writing playlist/what is it?

For drawing, I have to put on something that I won't have to think about (or have to think about changing), like all of a band's albums if they're the kind I've heard hundreds of times and won't focus on the lyrics (like Nada Surf, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Spoon, The Walkmen, French Kicks, We Are Scientists, Grandaddy, etc.), or I'll put on some daily/weekly Spotify playlist that's similarly in that pleasant-but-non-distracting tone. When I'm working on a big piece, though, sometimes I need to listen to the same song (or 3-5 songs) on loop until I finish it! Whichever song or songs I'm into that day: my brain sometimes just needs to keep hearing that to focus until I finish the piece.

For writing, I usually have to do it in silence, or I'll get distracted!

Edit: Forgot about the muse question. I'm not sure I'm understanding it right, but I can talk about inspiration if that's what you mean! For the little lits that I post on TH, I think about a character or character interaction that I want to explore or flesh out, or a scenario that I want to write about (especially if something I'm seeing/doing IRL makes me wonder how my characters would act in that scenario). For both those and my comic, it's real life overall that inspires me: places and people I want to pay tribute to.

If one (1) of your characters could get internationally famous, like everyone just knows your character and makes fanart and headcanons about them on social media and all that jazz, which character would you want it to be?

Ooh, this is a really interesting question. I think it's already Izzy? Like, he's not internationally famous and doesn't get fanart or headcanons, but he always gets a lot of attention and people often say he's my most "iconic" character, so if any of them became famous in that way I feel like it would probably be him. (I think CHIEF's another larger-than-life character who would be fun that way!)

Thanks for the questions!

I know I ask this to a lot of people, but how did you come up with your username, it seems really specific. Also I see you're doing a English Major, what made you want to do that?

"Why the periodic table? What got you started with that?" I've answered that part already.

"Also, who's your favourite?" I'm guessing you mean my favourite element, but that element is also my favourite character of mine which is Aluminum because it's so light and cool, and she's so cute and friendly (and partly based on me so I'm totally biased).

In your profile it says that you're willing to talk about Youtube- this may seem like a pretty basic question but who's your favourite youtuber? Also do you follow any artists on the platform?

@Lehmurix (I hope this works, I have no idea how to tag, sorry!! ;-;)

Ooooh Gosh, here I go fangirling! I pretty much love all the MCR songs! I don't think there's a single one that I dislike. I even thought about buying a record player just so I can buy the vinyls and jam in my bedroom! I think I listened to their first album at least  a hundred times.  Of course, I do have my favourites- Welcome to the Black Parade will always definitely be one of the best songs ever, even if it's one of the more well known it's also a timeless classic! I love Helena (of course), Mama (might be my second  favourite song from them), Ghost of you, The light behind your eyes and maybe Teenagers. Gosh, I  could go on all days and name endless tracks but I think those are on my top.

My favourite lyrics is probably the whole chorus from "Light Behing your Eyes":

"If I could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes
One day I'll lose this fight
As we fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as bright"

I don't know why but it always makes me emotional, it reminds me of the lover I never had.

(omg you're the one with the amazing Piffi characters ;v; @Lehmurix)

I'm not really sure what to ask... hm... What do you do? If you're a student, what are you studying? If you have a job, what is it? (If that's too personal, then just your general field is okay!!). What are your hobbies?

Also, bc I'm curious; what sort of things do you look for in a character / adopt you purchase?

They go by Salaude on TH! I comm'ed them on FlightRising, their art is... to die for,,, I have several pieces by them for some special characters of mine ;v; I adore their style.

Zaleos is not a main character! He is more of a background character that has had his moments in history and is connected with some main characters though. However, he is my comfort character - he's heavily inspired in terms of looks and some parts of his personality from my all-time favourite characters whom I relate to and care about a lot. Zaleos is pretty much my in-universe cuddle boi. He makes me very happy ;v;

I wouldn't say he's the face of the universe or w/e though, that honour goes to somebody else

Finches

Which artist made your icon? Its so precious. XD and is the character in your icon one of your main OCs?

Caine

What is your favourite abandoned place you have visited? Do you have any locations you'd love to visit if you could?

OOH that's so nice !!!

What kinds of things do you like about living there?

Relatively low crime rate compared to major big countries, a lot of nature and I feel like things are generally pretty peaceful here? I complain about Finland a lot because Finnish people often like to pretend our country is perfect and equal when it isn't, and it prevents people from wanting to improve it!! But as a whole I consider Finland a very safe and peaceful country, although we obviously have regional differences (for example I grew up in a backwater village in Lapland so my childhood often sounds way more wilder and dangerous compared to a lot of my southern finland peers who grew up in major cities).

I also like the fact Finnish people really mind their own business? Like, as a cultural norm. You're not expected to be social all the time and everywhere which is a huge plus if you suffer with anxiety or something that just makes you not feeling like interacting with people at that moment.

Do you like Finnish or English more?

I enjoy Finnish as a language perhaps a little bit more, mostly because Finnish is very vowel heavy and sounds very melodic, almost like singing? I also really love our incredibly wide array of synonyms to words, and I dare to say we have them more than in English language. Like, for example we have tons of words for snow and different types of snow

HOWEVER I consider English to be the language I express myself better in? I feel like through this language I can really express my feelings in particular, as I find Finnish culture and the language both to be emotionally very clumsy. I also enjoy writing in English because especially dialogue is just so much easier this way? Nobody in Finland speaks grammatically correct Finnish like everyone speaks some sort of dialect, and mine just so happens to be one of those rare ones that really aren't meant to be written, so it makes me hard to write natural sounding dialogue when grammatically correct sounds fake and my own dialect is incomprehensible.

What are your opinions on the other Nordic countries (plus Estonia   )?

They're all so much more advanced than Finland when it comes to human rights and trying to be decent damn people, and for that I'm incredibly bitter and jealous: our country still practices forcd sterilization, for example, and we really had to fight for YEARS to have a gender neutral marriage to succeed - and even after that a lot of people tried to nullify the law with addresses :'/ But as a whole I have a very positive image of the other nordic countries, as I know the quality of living as a whole is pretty high up in here, although it really depends on who you are too because if you belong to a minority group of any kind you might not be able to access all these luxuries

Alexg47

Caine I see you live in Finland, I happen to like Finland so I'm gonna ask a bunch of questions related to that: What kinds of things do you like about living there? Do you like Finnish or English more? What are your opinions on the other Nordic countries (plus Estonia   )?

"What are some of your favorite Eurovision moments?" This and this and, oh yeah, this, just to name a few.

"What is your favorite genre/type of performance to see: funny songs, theatrical skits, romantic ballads, etc.?" That's a tricky question, I like jokes, but I also like ballads and pop and... well it would be quicker to just show you, so here's my Eurovision playlist which as of now has almost 190 songs.

"And if you were to invent your ideal Eurovision performance, what would it be like?" Not going to lie, I have no idea.
