General Thread for PSAs

Posted 7 years, 11 months ago (Edited 5 years, 5 months ago) by Vespisia

Hello!

8/9: New PSA added.

5/14: 2 new PSAs added.

4/8: New PSA posted and additional information on Squidribs added to relevant PSA.

It was suggested that there should perhaps be a general thread for PSAs which is a fine idea. A place that links to other PSAs and keep things organized.
You can link your threads/PSAs/etc, and I'll add them to the posts. :D
Please Note: I can only accept public PSAs. Anon PSAs are too much of a risk to accept, as they can be open to slander.

Things That Count for PSAs!
-Scams
-Illegally chargebacked (you did a commission, but person claims you never did, for instance)
-Being shifty on doing owed things (taking months on an icon for example, lack of contact or updates, etc)
-Tracing and profiting off of it...
-Etc...

Things That Don't Count!
-Someone has better art than you
-Rude behavior
-Subjective issues
-Dog ate your homework

Obviously, this is just the basic frame work. Each case is different. For instance, someone could go around harassing artists for art and customs, or for people to give up their adopts and whatnot, and that could almost certainly be considered for a PSA...

Of course, it would be great if no more PSAs occur, but in the case they do, I support people posting them because they keep the community safe and will link to them in this general thread. owo/

There'll be two posts, one for PSAs and one for resolved cases! ^^

Art scammer on dA - https://www.deviantart.com/rolling999

Don't think it's worth making an entire thread for, but needs to be mentioned.

They commission artists for high amounts - I said $15-20 for mine, they offered $30, but asked for a sketch before payment. Tons of red flags, but on the off chance it was legit, I accepted. However, I only sketched the pose with no chara traits, and censored it liberally (it was a nsfw pose). I sent this to them and said I'd send an invoice if that looked alright. Though contact had been good up until that point, they read that note and stopped replying.

Looking on their userpage, they've gotten at least two others to fall for this, to give them sketches which they then refuse to pay for. PLEASE, to everyone out there, DO NOT EVER DO COMMS WITHOUT AT LEAST A DOWN PAYMENT!

https://www.deviantart.com/digiphase/ (their other account https://www.deviantart.com/flakia) Scammer selling stolen art/characters as adopts. Not the real issue if it was confined to DA and DA only, but their latest journal is a link to a different journal for free TH codes, so they might pop up here one way or another. Keep an eye out and keep your hard-earned money safe, folks. (Check the gallery of all their uploaded stuff, people are posting the original sources in comments.)

Side note: this one’s maybe one notch above the average scammer in that they heavily watermark the art they steal so reverse image searches don’t work. They also steal from lesser known Japanese twitter accounts, making finding the original artist more difficult.

Out of curiosity, I asked them for a .psd screenshot of an adopt so I could see if there was any legitimate workflow, and what they gave me was a screenshot where they had cut out certain sections of the original image and layered them into folders to mimic the actual workflow. So somewhat trickier than the standard fare scammer and quite invested in wasting time and energy pretending to be an artist rather than just learning how to art.

I'm on my phone and I will write this quickly but there's an artist I commissioned more than a year ago for a $55 waist up commission, my last contact was on the 30th of October when I asked about the commission status since a year passed at that point. They told me they were going to do it, that they were busy and asked me to send them new references which I did but nothing happened after that.

I noticed they finished owed art as payment for characters and kept purchasing commissions, etc

Not long ago my friend came to me all happy, this same artist made them a drawing as payment for a character while I'm still here almost two years waiting for a commission??? So I decided to contact them again on March 24th, the note is on read to this day and I have not received a reply.

TLDR: i commissioned an artist for a $55 commission almost two years ago, they finish art payment for characters and commissions other people but avoids my commission and notes.

Not necessarily a PSA but more of a general question in regards to incomplete trades (or even commissions). What do you consider a reasonable amount of time to ask users for updates/progress if they themselves aren't updating you? I don't want to appear "too pushy/aggressive" and continuously ask for updates, so I consider sending a message if I haven't gotten an update from them in 2+ months, which leads me to another question: at what point do you "draw the line" as anybody can always just lie and go "I'm working on it" without any actual progress?

SquidsInTheAttic

Avistella  I ask for an update after about 3 weeks.  I've been scammed a few times now, so now I'm a bit less lenient.  If someone owes me art from a character trade and hasn't contacted me in a month to give me an update, even if they need more time, then I'll put it back up for offers.  I know I can be forgetful so I try to just ask how things are going, but I like to have a more specific date for at least a sketch at that point.

so this artist i commissioned like forever ago for a 50$ custom disappeared off the face of the earth for months and then reappeared selling adopts with custom icons you could get if you bought them. i did get my money back because i did a chargeback since it was getting close to 6 months with basically zero communication. there are also comments in on her profile where people are asking for her to check her notes which she doesnt because my note telling her id make a chargeback was left unread. so what im getting at here is that im worried for people who bought the adopt add ons however should i make a psa if i got my money back? sorry if this is a bit incoherent its 1 am currently v.v
