PSA: shutupaugust - Chargeback [5/23/2021]

shutupaugust ordered a 100x100 animated fullbody pixel commission on March 5th:

I sent them the invoice on March 5th.

They paid for the invoice on March 15th.

I gave them the completed art on March 19th:

They did a chargeback on April 4th, "unauthorized purchase."

I sent them a message on Toyhouse asking why they were doing a chargeback:

I followed it up after a few hours as I could see they had left the message on read, and they responded:

  • "I’m sorry I’ve used someones I’ve known money without permission cannot cancel the refund but can get the money back it will take time tho I’m sorry for this mess you did not deserve this and I know I fucked up pretty bad [. . .] I used someone’s else’s money through PayPal. i can get you back twelve dollars; i would take a month or so I’m sorry for the long wait on that but it’s what I can do my apologies again"

So right now I'm just waiting to see what happens, sitting here with -$12.00 on my Paypal.

5/6/2021 UPDATE : I lost the chargeback despite all of the evidence; on top of that, Paypal will be charging me a $20 nonrefundable fee for the chargeback being initiated against me. I contacted shutupaugust again and they said they'll be paying me within the next few days.

5/23/2021 UPDATE:  I sent them a message on the 11th asking them if there were any updates, and they've not read it. Completely silent since our last contact on the 6th. :/

I hope that you can dispute the chargeback on paypal, that's super shitty of them to do to you. I would absolutely continue to push paypal since you delivered your end.
I'd love to commission you to get you out of the negative if you have space in your queue, DM me for details if you're interested.

Lost the chargeback in spite of all of the evidence, and now I'm down ANOTHER $12, Paypal's took $12 twice now for this same chargeback. :///

--- Contacted Paypal and was informed that Paypal doesn't offer Seller Protection to intangible items such as digital art, essentially meaning anyone you do digital art for can do a chargeback and win it. They deadass said, "For this situation I would defiantly reach out to the parents and ask for that repayment [of the chargeback] if that was the case from the child. You can do that from the request money option."

Nah, they said there's nothing they can really do because the chargeback was initiated via the person's bank, not Paypal itself. :/
