Hello, all.

One never thinks that they will have to write one of these, but the world is a funny place.

Back in August of 2019, My partner Lainebrary and I purchased this set of adoptables for their ABs; $125 each. The transaction went incredibly smoothly, and Pepapen was very quick and professional to deliver files; even going so far as creating additional files for us when asked for separate .pngs for the fullbodies / portraits.

April 3rd, 2021; I was browsing Pinterest and I came across an art piece that feels oddly similar to my character, Blessing; and when I overlaid them, it became incredibly clear that this wasn’t just a reference, there was a direct trace.

I spent the next hour and a half, in tears, tearing through the internet with image searches to try to find which image came first; the adoptable, or this bust piece I found on Pinterest. Spoiler; it was the portrait I’d found, which pre-dates these two adoptables by two years. You can find it here, time-stamped December 26, 2017; two years before the adoptables were created. https://monappy.jp/picture_places/view/22490

I reached out to Pepapen immediately seeking recourse. You can find the emails here, where I describe my demands to fix the situation

  • A public post on your art and social media accounts admitting that you traced. With this, I would like to see you come clean on every piece that was traced or 'heavily referenced'. Track down the people who paid you for these works or adopts, and offer them a full refund or a redraw.
  • Reach out to the artists whose works you've stolen.
  • A full refund on these designs.

Within a day, all of my demands were met. I linked to their public posts on my own DeviantArt, and thought it was done. A clean resolution, and I was content to let sleeping dogs lie.

Until my partner reached out to a friend of theirs, who had gotten a commission from Pepapen, and advised them to double-check the work with Pepapen & Posepedia. That was when the commissioner found out that Pepa had blocked them, when they had no correspondence with the artist since the last commission. They, in turn, reached out to another friend; who was also blocked.

And thus the need for this PSA. I advise you, if you have bought an adoptable or commissioned work from this pair, to seek recourse. While I have not looked for evidence of more traces, I am highly suspicious of the ‘preventative blocking’ that seems to be taking place; also, when I had asked that Pepapen make a public announcement, what good does it do if they just block anyone from even seeing it?

From what I can tell, contacting Posepedia is the only way to get a response, if you’ve been blocked on the main account. Feel free to add any information in the comments and I’ll update this thread.

As of right now, both characters that were listed on TH have been set to hidden until we can find an artist who is willing to redesign them.

It seems Pepapen and Posepedia are in the middle of re-branding and have resurfaced. Thank you to the anonymous user who DMd me with some more information!

Edit 2 (April 8th, 2021):

From a kind soul who  wishes to remain anonymous, I have received  several more places of  contact, some that seem to be more active than  others. I'll be updating  the main thread post with these, as well.

Edit 1 (April 7th, 2021): It seems that both Pepapen and Posepedia are now blocking past commissioners. Their business email is [email protected]. Alternatively, their Twitter is morinoiratelier, and their Art Station is https://www.artstation.com/morinoir, though it seems like both accounts are pretty dead. Another account name has been found, as well; "lapinpen". [Old information, please see Update #3 for updated emails and business accounts]

crimsonalloy

Hi! I commissioned Posepedia via pepapen's account on dA on Jan 31, 2020 and received my piece on Feb 10, 2020. Here's the result.

Thanks for taking the time to write this and get information out. I probably never would have found out otherwise, because thanks to your PSA I discovered that I'm also blocked by both of their accounts! (I am still able to view the status update you linked though).

I noticed that Posepedia only admitted to tracing your adopt and nothing else, while stating to contact them "should anyone have any concern" about their works. The wording gives me the impression that there might be other traced works in their portfolio, though I have no clue what they are trying to accomplish by blocking all their past customers.

keito

I was reading Pepapen's status update and I was curious since it seems ambiguous but do you know who was the one who did art of the adopt? Pepapen makes it sound like they were posting on behalf of Postpedia in their status update but I didn't see in the description of the adoptable any mention of postpedia (as well as saying "adoptable by pepapen" as a watermark on the adopts). Are they different people or are they the same person (or did they collab on the adopt)??

Lainebrary

keito Pepapen and Posepedia are a husband and wife pair, according to several descriptions from their adopts and commissions. Credit isn't consistent, but it is safe to assume all adoptables from 2019 onward were sketched and lined by Posepedia with colors by Pepapen as that is where the art style of adopts changes distinctly and Posepedia's post states that they started making adopts in 2019.

Ikayuro

crimsonalloy The more people that end up coming forward with this, the more worried I get. It feels like the blocking is just an admission of guilt; especially when their commissioners haven't (to my knowledge) had any contact with either artist in this team after their transaction was completed. When I had originally requested that they come clean, it was to avoid a PSA like this and give them a chance to save face, and save their business; but they're content to let themselves burn.

Since their email is posted publically, I'm going to update the thread with it, since it seems like both accounts are blocking people, now. I would also post the twitter and art station links, but it doesn't seem like Posepedia is active on either of them.

ktensai

I'd suggest posting them just in case! They might become active on those platforms in the future or use similar usernames, so add them just to be safe ^^

Ikayuro

ktensai Just did! If anyone finds any other social medias for either of them too, I can update further. ^^

Archaeologist_92

Yes, I was blocked by them after they had finished an AB fullbody of the two designs I bought from them
the designs: https://www.deviantart.com/pepapen/art/The-Guardians-CLOSED-871569960

I found it odd as I didn't have any negative issues with them up until now, and I've been hurt going over and over in my head what I could've said
to them that might've offended them.
if any more information is needed I'll do my best to provide it.

Ikayuro

I just submitted an Artist Beware, as well, since it seems like no one can contact either of these accounts. Once it's approved on the site, I'll add a link to it in the main post.

Ikayuro

blankshi Archaeologist_92 - I'm so sorry to hear this, I truly am. I hate being the bearer of bad news, and the more people that post here the more my heart is breaking.

Dolce

Thank you for posting this! I don't have much other information to offer unfortunately, but I wanted to chime in that I received commissions from pepapen/posepedia in July 2018 and November 2019 and I haven't been in contact with either since then. After reading this, I checked and can confirm I've been blocked by both dA accounts.

Ikayuro

blankshi I appreciate your diligence so much. My partner is reaching out to anyone he can who's bought commissions or adoptables from them, so we can cast a wider net of awareness. With people being blocked, and comments disabled on both posts, it's very clear that these two are trying to run.

Lainebrary

Posting to add some additional information I discovered as I work to reach out to other buyers so that they don't accidentally stumble across their own artwork the way Ikayuro did.

In the public post, Posepedia claims that they began making adopts in 2019

However, I have found evidence of his involvement in adoptables posted on Pepapen's account dating as far back as August of 2018
