Hello! Considering what happened to the old ai user masterlist, I thought I'd make a new one!
This masterlist is for any ai "artists" you have come across, whether they be on DeviantArt, Toyhouse, or any other site! Since these people are actively scamming people out of their hard-earned money, there needs to be a list so people can't get scammed. Even if they are using their ai "art" for personal use, they are still hurting actual artists because the ai uses people's uncredited art (for full explanation see here, not my explanation but it explains really well)!
I am aware that the user who made the old psa thread was blackmailed with doxxing, but I have taken measures to prevent that. I will keep this thread open as long as I possibly can. Thanks for the help, everyone!

DEVIANTART:
-DA has a 500 max blocklist, so keep this in mind while blocking
-Use the Tag Blocker on DA (Account Settings -> Browsing -> Muted Tags) You should select "Mute AI" but ALSO you should type in AI tags such as "aiadopt" "aiadoptable" "aiadoptables" "ai_adopt" "ai_art" "ai" "midjourney" "artbreeder" "(insert ai name)"
- Keep watch for tags on like AI/midjourney/Artbreeder/(insert AI name) character tag through character browsing system on TH

Before Buying on DA:
- Check account age (AI only gained popularity in 2020ish so, older than that is less likely, HOWEVER, some older artists have turned to AI)
- Check Deviation Count (Submitting many many adopts every day)
- Consider the Deviation's name (If it's a number "Adopt 3838" or generic "Elf Lady Adopt" "Anime Girl Adopt" it should be suspect)
- Check if the comments are turned off. (AI artists receive a lot of hate so they turn these off)
- Check the tags on their adopt (Both when for sale and after sale, some artists will only add "aiadopt" AFTER the sale is made.
- Check profile for any signs of "Ai Artist" (Do they have "AI" in their name? their profile?
- Check disclaimers/journals/tos (Some AI artists will tell you "you understand it's AI")
- Look for "Pity Party" context ( "Woe is me, I'm just a little guy trying to make beautiful adopts, please don't harass me, please just block me!")
- Check the price. Some will overprice, but most will charge $5 for a detailed ref sheet. If it was made by a real person they wouldn't be charging so little.
- If it is an older account, see if their older artworks match what their current style is and if it would be reasonable for their style to have changed so much.
- Do they have more social media rather than dA? Most artists have multiple accounts, but AI artists usually don't.
- "I used ai for inspiration and drew it myself" is a red flag, they almost never drew it themselves (and you can tell)
- "You don´t need to credit me" is another.
- Deleting adopts after they sold is strange, most artists will mark them as sold instead of deleting them.

Hmmm, I have a question.
Can someone explain to me WHY using an AI service (artbreeder, I think? Is one that has been around to help with designs, usually with hella low quality) to help figure out potential character designs is a problemn if you're going to go and redraw it/edit it? Like... isn't that the same as kitbashing, or using some avatar site (Gaiaonline, VoltraOnline, etc) to help design a character?

Edit to add: I don't, because I hate how they are all pay to use, nevermind anything else. I HAVE, however, used GaiaOnline avatars to help with ideas for designs. I HAVE gone and collected 8203981290381902381290 images to figure out what might work for a design. Etc. I'm just curious as to why THAT is ok, and using an AI service to help give ideas for a design is not ok.

I'm not sure if you add users who buy AI, but if you do @catsnores seems to have quite a few AI designs.
Avatar/doll makers use assets made by artists, those artists made those assets for the purpose of them being put together to make designs and characters, on the other hand, Ai steals assets from artists to generate their images, so even when being used to make mock designs it can still put a bad taste in people's mouths ESPECIALLY since as stated previously, avatar/doll makers exist and can serve the same purpose without theft

Isn't that considered kitbashing and common in the character conceptualising PROFESSIONAL world...? Like... how is THAT different?
Pinterest photos or drawings.... same diff, really? I don't see the difference, and I would really appreciate if someone could point THAT out. Because how is it that going and collecting elements/features/whatever from a million different images (Drawn and/or real) from the internet, ok while using AI for a rework of an image is not? I mean... it just... I dunno. They seem like the same kinda thing to me, so please do explain.
I hate the idea of AI stealing shit, (But I like the *idea* of AI. IF IT COULD BE REGULATED. It's a fantastic tool, just SO easy to use, abuse, take advantage of, and all that jazz to REALLY fuck over artists) and I'm not trying to say 'oh it's not bad at all!'. I just want someone to explain that difference to me, since afaik.... kitbashing like that is a common practice in a professional setting.
Pinterest was just hte first example I thought of, so please forgive that. However. I tend to just ... actually, no reference/whatever for my chara designs. I just go with whatever I personally like ... which is why I have such an eclectic collection, lmao. BUT! I'll pass those sites on to others if I come across them.
And I'm not even touching on the stolen element. Because that's a nobrainer. THAT is my issue with AI, personally. 1: you have to PAY to use them,, and 2: they are basically entirely stolen content. IF, big if, I know, it was actually possible to regulate how AI is trained and such? I think it'd be fucking fantastic as a tool. But that regulation, currently at least, is fkn impossible. Hence the issue.
At any rate, I've never really thought 'hey, I like this sweater that A is wearing. I wonder if I could do a version of that, for myself' would be such a problem. So long as it's not a direct 100% copy or colour swap. y'know?

Because I 100% agree that AI and the whole content not being used rightly and shit is a MASSIVE problem. No fkn question there. I don't want my trash in those... would probably be a downgrade anyway, lmao.
Anywho, yeah. Like... if A threw their character design into AI, and got 6 designs, then went and *redrew a combination of all of them, themselves*, I don't see THAT as being an issue. y'know? .... Not counting the whole use of AI because AI is .. we've been over that, I ain't gonna say it *again*. lmao.
I really want to see AI as a valid resource, actually. I want to see it reach the point it's regulated, even if you have to pay for usage monthly, just to ensure all those who are involved are paid - and that includes a royalty cost for the art that is used ***with permission***. Sadly, I realise that'll never fkn come T^T
AND I do think it's done a lot of harm to artists overall.
Take me for example. I've never had someone claim AI on me, but that's probably because I have an odd mix of anime + realism, and AI don't generally do that. BUT there have been times where my quality/anatomy/everything has just exploded to be better seemingly overnight. THAT could get people claiming AI for people who have a more strictly/naturally( maybe? wtf is the right word here...) Anime style. y'know? Like, that's definitely more harm than good. Because sometimes that just happens.
That's not to say I don't understand the AI Claims with sudden improvements or style changes. HOWEVER... you have to sit back and actually consider that it could be legit in some situations.
Edit to add: I also assume this isn't counting CSP's default AI: Their shading assist! That's a useful fkn tool if you can make it work, to figure out how shadows should lay in terms of where the light would hit and such.
I found a recent user who is clearly using AI without marking it for their OC(s). They continue to upload more of them & are claiming its their own art.

Howdy! here with a speedpaint to hopefully finally get PrisonPie taken off of this list! Or at least properly tagged now as someone who isn't using AI anymore you'll notice me goofing off in the magma/aggie portion since I was watching the first half happen live
As well as give a reminder to do your own research when encountering other AI PSAs! A user the other day on deviantart made a callout on PrisonPie maliciously attacking and insulting her because they decided that she's been using AI and lying about it. Said user also pinged everyone who's bought an adopt from her and posted art of Prison's from 4-5 years ago as evidence, purposely leaving out the dates from said art pieces and claiming that this is how she draws and nothing else. Them framing everything like this convinced some of the people to issue chargebacks and spread the journal calling her a scammer. Her main response about everything too.
When I told them if they gave me actual proof that Prison was using AI since everything they had was mostly just opinion and a twisted truth I'd accept being wrong to defend her, they basically said "if you know you know" and kinda just... continued to imply I wasn't a good enough artist to be able to tell the difference?
idk I was just gonna send the proof directly like I did last time with the previous list since I don't want people thinking I support AI, but the more and more I looked at this person's aggression and disrespectfulness towards both Prison and me for putting the rest of the evidence out there, I thought I should make sure people were aware of this too :( I know AI is scary and stressful for artists, but it isn't okay to go full cutthroat about it, especially when you have proof as flimsy as "good real artists can tell". Especially since now they're just doubling down on it now that more people aren't agreeing with them and I don't think they're going to apologize since they were so hostile they can't really take it back or something. Same reason I linked an archive.
Just a note that I obviously never saw the comment that the user mentions Prison deleting for anyone going through the journal comments, but according to Prison it wasn't some invitation to discuss it. just attacking and calling her a monster
