PSA: Sketchysquiggles on DA

Posted 5 years, 11 months ago (Edited 5 years, 11 months ago) by girk

I wanted to warn other users who may be wanting to purchase commissions from a deviantart user named Sketchysquiggles (this is also their toyhouse: https://toyhou.se/sketchysquiggles )

I got a commission from them back in Febuary, and it has been almost a three whole months since the commission has been bought. I noted them the first time and they claimed they were busy with school, understandable i'll wait a little while longer. However a month later there is still no commission done for me and they've been uploading their own artwork (which is fine and dandy but this just shows me that MY commission is not high prority.) I am not the only one to have commission them and my commission is still not done either, I noted them about a refund and oh golly guess what its been almost two weeks since i sent the note and they haven't responded to it.

DO NOT commission this user!

EDIT: PROOF PROVIDED! https://sta.sh/288z3u9i44m

Just keep in the mind (this goes to anyone who does commissions or buys commissions) the moment you and whomever you are buying / selling to exchange payment you enter into a contract. If you cannot uphold your end of the contract as the artist or buyer, you open yourself up to these types of PSAs.

As an artist, you are essentially a business person, and you have an obligation to inform your clients when you are busy or can’t present a finished product in time. The excuse “I’m busy” unfortunately doesn’t fly. You entered this contract and you need to find time to update. Life sucks, but if you can’t find time to update your customers more than maybe once every three months, you should maybe reconsider opening commissions at all.

multiple things are going on in this thread so i’ll try to word this the best i can:
was this necessary?: yes! this post was not a callout, but a warning to the community. this user admitted to getting behind on commissions but owning up to a mistake does not give one a “free pass”. if this user was not mentally ready to take commissions, they should have either not opened them or kept VERY limited slots.
does this post need proof?: yes, however the artist admitting fault is it’s own separate proof in a way i suppose?
was it the right decision to have a friend respond to this thread instead of responding themselves?: mostly no. while i don’t believe this situation would have been resolved if not for the intervention, the artist should have responded to their customers themselves instead. using your friends as speakers is unprofessional, and gives the appearance that you are apathetic.
resolution: the artist has posted a journal on dA asking for commissioners to come forward, which is definitely a good move, although it is completely understandable that customers would be upset after 3+ months of being ignored or forgotten.
other complaint?: kind of unrelated to this situation, but i would like to point out that the artist is a minor and is openly displaying their nsfw fetish blog, which is illegal assuming that the artist lives in the US. @umiroo i would advise telling your friend to take the link to it off of their profile, and either make it completely private or deleting the blog entirely before it’s reported and their account is terminated.

@Aricchi MiniMilkshake1001 vvingblade Chernobyl

so sorry this took long ( i forgot i posted this honestly after the resolution came ) here are the screens of when i bought said commission, asked mid way about it (claimed they were busy with school work, posted personal art anyways so my concern was there) and when i asked for a refund to when it was answered https://sta.sh/288z3u9i44m (sorry that they are in stash this is just the most efficient way i could do this)

@umiroo yes! please note i am not 'calling out' your friend, it was simply a PSA because i saw other people on their profile with same concerns as i to where their stuff was, and where mine was importantly so i laid out a PSA. I have no personal vendetta with sketchy and i love their artistic ability but their work ethic is something that must be worked on.

Yeah i've been waiting on an icon commish from them for a lil while and (since like april i believe) and seeing them post so much personal art and stuff was idk?? bothering me? bc i'm now seeing how many people they owe art to ejnrtjgy; they did reply to me on their journal abt art they owe so ! theres that i suppose owo

also yeah Chernobyl same abt the kink thing. i dont think they realize that they could get in trouble for it tho? ((and if they do id assume they dont care)) but hopefully if they get told they'll do somethin abt it

Thank you girk, for the evidence! It totally helps to show a timeline. They should have been in communication with you more often. If they had time to upload "old" art, they should have had time to shoot you a message.

@umiroo

I'm not sure I understand your comment? I was the one who never received a refund, just various messages saying things such as "I'll get around to it" and "I'm working on it" etc.
