Keromu are an anthropomorphic amphibian species who are born into the world through a mysterious energy called aether. They are long descendants of a visually similar quadrupedal species, and now they live among other beings of the world like fairies and humans. Some choose to live their lives traditionally along riverbanks and lakesides, and others of the more modern type choose to venture away from bodies of water and live alongside other folks. They are naturally attuned to atmospheric aether, granting every Keromu the ability to predict the weather and swiftly navigate air and water currents.ddsftbn-aaafd869-b87e-46e8-b8ed-6cf326c6

Old Keromu Info:

I'm completely new to creating closed species (and the adoptables community in general, lol) but I wanted to try my hand at it! I'm currently looking for feedback on what I have so far, or if you would be interesting in having a Keromu (the species in question) at some point.

This is a very rough visualization of some of what I have so far.

Keromu are a humanoid amphibian species who live in (unnamed world). The Keromu seen in the world now are descendants of a much older but visually similar quadrupedal species, and have gained human intelligence and physical abilities over the course of centuries of magical enchantment. Less than a foot tall at most, the 'classic' appearance of the species (seen above) is best characterized by a few specific qualities: smooth and slightly wet skin, long arms that fall below their knees, fingers and toes that flatten and round out into sticky pads, limbs that widen at their ends, tadpole-like tails, large eyes with horizontal pupils, conical ears, and ear/antenna-like structures protruding from the tops of the head that typically have eyespots.

They are omnivorous with a diet consisting of nuts, fruits, other edible (by human standard) plants, as well as insects and small fish. Keromu are initially born with only a tail and live in freshwater water sources, and as they mature and grow, their limbs begin to sprout from their body and grow longer. At maturity, they are free to leave the water, and experience the rest of their lives. Traditionally, Keromu work as ferrymen, allowing other small creatures to cross large river or freshwater bodies without coming to harm. Using their sturdy tails as rudders, they navigate underwater currents, with an innate sense for the flow of both wind and water currents at work to their advantage. This also makes them particularly attuned to the weather. For their size, Keromu actually live relatively long-- their expected lifespan is roughly 120 years.

Mature Keromu do not NEED a water source in order to live, but it benefits their general health greatly if they can at least pat themselves down with water every now and then. Their skin is usually squishy like human skin, but soft and moist to some degree. Keromu who live away from fresh water sources typically soak themselves in running-water baths as a treat.

However, as magic saturation in the world has grown steadily throughout the ages, and as Keromu populations have moved away from solely near freshwater bodies, the species as a whole has become much more diversified in appearance (and subsequently, occupations and living styles). This has come to include changes in:

italicized traits will likely be considered 'uncommon' while underlined traits are 'rare'!

[EARS] - base: small cones

  • rounded (semisphere) ears
  • long, spike-like ears
  • no ears ?
[EYES] - base: white/yellow/green/orange sclera, any color iris, thick horizontal pupil
  • thin horizontal pupil
  • round pupil
  • cuttlefish (wavy) pupil
  • no pupil
  • vertical pupil?
[BODY] base: bulky but somewhat thin figure pictured above
  • slimy/goopy skin
  • rough, bumpy (toad-like) skin
  • thin, lanky body type
  • large, round body type
[MANTLE/HAIR]
  • fibrous hair? (more like actual hair than fabric/squid mantle)
  • protruding from different places (arms, shoulders, legs, etc.)
[MOUTH] base: long, thin, sticky tongue and no teeth
  • wide tongue
  • forked end tongue
  • omnivore teeth
  • fangs only
  • sharp teeth?
[TAIL] base: tadpole-like tail
  • short, nubby tail
  • long tail (as long as length of body)
  • thin whiplike tail
  • spiked tail?
  • split tail?
  • no fin/tadpole membrane (possibly in combination with above?)
This is an incomplete list-- I welcome any suggestions or feedback!

On extremely rare occasion, Keromu are born with especially high  magic within their bodies, causing unusual qualities to physically  manifest. These are called enchantments, and with the right materials,  can possibly be created through external magic. (I'm still thinking of  stuff for this, I may change the lore surrounding 'enchanted' traits)

This is all I have for now, but this page may be updated as I have more ideas to jot down. Please leave your thoughts below! :0
