1 Votes ehh not my thing

hiya, so this was a solo project of mine. i literally just created my first character for a species last week, and it made me want more, however i felt there's always room for more cs! i love making up stories and lore, and im trying my hand at designing, so i thought, why not put together a species? and so here are the hoshi-kingyo, born from my admiration of goldfish patterns and love of pretty, silky things! so far, ive got a very rough looking trait and species overview, along with an example of the species. pls forgive me if it looks like an 8-year old made it, photoshop really doesnt agree with me, and this was all made in one day T T

questions:

what are hoshi-kingyo?

hoshi-kingyo are the result of a goldfish fancier's desire to make goldfish more accessible! they are small, humanoid creatures capable of being fit into a human palm, and they are often playful and attention-seeking. they mainly dwell in their aquatic habitats (fish bowls and fish tanks), but they are capable of leaving them for extended periods of time, due to their rings of water that surround their necks! they are capable of breeding within the species, however most forms of unique mutations are introduced through DNA splicing. unfortunately, the DNA of hoshi-kingyo so far are not compatible with those of mammals, and so features typically found in mammals such as horns, fur, furred tails, are not found in hoshi-kingyos. however, they are capable of taking in the DNA of just about any other aquatic animal.

what are their defining features?

all hoshi-kingyo will have 3 gills on each side of their necks, rings of water, tails, ear fins, and another set of fins! the extra set can be found anywhere along the body, as long as it is parallel on both sides, and a hoshi-kingyo can have as many fins along its body as the owner desires!

how many colors can they come in?

common hoshi-kingyo can have a maximum of 3 colors along their fins, however the actual skin color does not count into this. all other hoshi-kingyo have an unlimited palette, however all breeds can choose any sorts of colors they desire, patterns included!

do they wear clothes?

yes! hoshi-kingyo are treated as dolls by many of their owners, and they are often dressed up in any sorts of clothing their owners prefer.

can their fins be torn/missing?

yes, hoshi-kingyo are quite delicate creatures and their fins may often tear accidentally while they're playing. any hoshi-kingyo can have a ragged or torn fin, however if it is missing, there is usually a shred of a few fins near the stump area to signify what used to be there.

thank you for reading! i would really appreciate any sort of input or help anyone would be willing to provide, as this is still very much a wip, and i honestly have no idea how a trait system works, i just wanted to make pretty finned characters lol however if you would like to be included in a ping list, also leave a comment down below to lmk! (also if this closely resembles another species please also lmk, i have no knowledge of any other species apart from those mentioned frequently on TH qq)

Pinglist!

I think it's refreshing to see a humanoid species that isn't mammal based. They remind me of cois a bit though. But still, they're something that I can't say I've seen somm like them & that's good. It be cool if they had like a scale to skin fading option for like, the limbs & around the gills maybe? Idk.

CatFish-Hoshi thank you sm for your input!! I do agree they def need more traits, but when I was making it I alr felt like they had a lot ahaha, and I wasn't sure if I myself could draw scales to make it look nice, but I may try! I think the next step for me is to fully draw out a few specimens, however I need to clear my current art load before taking on this larger project ;v;

If you're okay with it though, I'd love to dm to keep discussing, as I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions and I'm very unfamiliar with species as a whole ahaha

Miracle-Shonen

Fine with me I'm down to help out

scoresilver

omg i love this concept, i already want like a dozen of them ;; i think the gene splicing w other aquatic animal thing is super cool and maybe more types could be included too like maybe having seahorse or axolotl based tails or ear fins? id totally like to be added to a ping list n id love to help out in any way i can!!

23oolong

scoresilver ooh I didn't even consider those animals, I adore those features as possible mutations also! And yes I'd love help (and hello fellow kittybot owner!) so if you don't mind I'd also love to dm you so we can speak about ideas! ;v;

scoresilver

yep, im totally fine with that!!

SpiritX

Sure, pop me on a pinglist!

23oolong

SpiritX GhostyNarra added! the species is under a lot of reworking rn as ive come up with some new ideas and what to make the traits more organised, so it'll be a while until they resurface, but when they do i'll be more prepared to properly open up the species 0:

merryselena

Ahh please add me into pinglist!💗💗

23oolong

_xinmei added, thank you for your interest! ;m;

NightAky

Add me to ping list to! I love this species already!!

karieko

ooh I really dig this species! I can tell you put a lot of effort into the lore, the DNA splicing concept sounds super neat ^^ Please add me to the ping list too, I can't wait to see what events you have planned for them!! ouo

(ps: just out of random curiosity, what would they eat? Fish food or human food? or whatever the creature they have in their DNA would eat in nature? lol)
