Bird-like creatures have been an inspiration to me for a long time... So now... I'm starting a new exciting species project!
It's like interest check cos I would like to see if anyone is interested in these creatures?
I'm open to ideas on that! Feedback and advice would be appreciated!

Manabirds are small magical bird-like creatures that can be met across all worlds. They are a natural source of magic, you can even say that they generate magic.
Manabirds’ blood has a cerulean tint. It also has magical powers which is why Manabirds are constantly hunted down. They can breathe magical fire with their glowing mouths as if they were small dragons. This breath fills artefacts, potions and other objects with magic.
These birds are basically living magic powerhouses!
Manabirds don’t have their own world, they breed in any place out there.
However, they prefer to group in flocks and usually stay closer to the nature, for example, in isolated woods. Such woods are called Manawoods and can be found in any of your universes.
Because of that your little birdies can join in on any story with other creatures and species, building fascinating relationships and storylines!
Manabirds can be divided into subspecies, or forms, depending on how rare they are and how easily they can be injured while hovering all over the world.
Pixies are tiny, feathery and chubby. They’re like Manabirds’ Pomeranians. Pixie is one of the most common forms of Manabirds. They are scattered around all worlds.
Pixies are quick and curious. They’re the swiftest of all Manabirds. They enjoy collecting things from different places that they find useful, interesting or just pretty.
They have average magical abilities that tend to fade out over time. It takes a long time for a Pixie to restore their magic, and if they pass their energy to someone else, they would need to regain it as soon as possible.
That’s why, out of all other species, Pixies are mostly found near the magic springs. In other cases they carry elixirs and artefacts to regain strength.

Magic is the main power source for Manabirds. It’s like oxygen for these creatures, generating in their blood and giving them energy. It can also be gathered from any natural sources, be that earth, water, plants or anything else that has natural magic springs.
Magic power that defines how much energy the creature can pass and how strong its spells are;
Magic stamina that defines how fast the creature can restore their magic and how quickly it gets to the state of magic depletion.
Magic depletion is very dangerous. It happens when a creature is hurt or has passed too much energy. Pixies are the most vulnerable subspecies for that matter.
Total depletion may cause the creature’s death.
Levels of magic power and magic stamina usually correlate. There are some exceptions, one of which is mutations.
Manabirds’ blood is highly valued for its magic, but in order to get some of it one has to capture the bird first. It’s not that easy because Manabirds are afraid of hunters and use all their abilities to escape the attackers.
Some say that in on rare occasions Manabirds’ blood can be either life-giving (thus giving eternal life) or deadly.
Manabreath is magic breath with which Manabirds can pass their magic to any object, artefact, elixir or even other living being, which means that the recipient would temporarily gain magic features depending on its nature.
You can also say that they release magic in other things, which is why Manabirds are called magic powerhouses.
Manabreath can also work as a spell. A witch has to cast a spell to fill her cauldron with water while a Manabird can just breathe into it.
[common] Manaflame.
It looks like dragon’s flame. It’s not hot and it usually doesn’t hurt anyone who touches it.
However, the bird can set any object on fire or freeze it with this type of breath.
Unique magic abilities: fighting, healing, elemental.
[uncommon] Manafog.
Looks like a wisp of colourful smoke. It wraps around the object and releases magic within it.
Unique magic abilities: deranging, illusion, disappearing, telepathy, potion brewing.
[rare] Manadust.
Looks like a twinkling glittery cloud. It basically consists of very small particles that resemble fairy dust.
Unique magic abilities: psychological, submission, hypnosis, sleep-inducing dust, elemental.

though im also curious, since they store and have powers, can and do they use them ? are shape shifting powers a thing? would it be possible for them to have a human/noid form too in that case? :o

they can become an Arcana, it's like anthro form.
Arcanas walk on both legs and can talk. They are far more sociable than the other subspecies. They travel the worlds and often borrow different words from other species so that they could speak to them and sell them artefacts and other valuables.
but human form is also possible if they use a special elixir to turn (i think it will soon be available on group market)
