It's finally time! I present to you my babies, the Calyptra Species! Calyptra are vampiric, anthropomorph moth-creatures with magical and limited shapeshifting powers. For more information, I have provided a Toyhou.se World, a DeviantArt Group and an Amino App where you can find the species guide and links to their lore and culture!

A New Home Challenge

Our current event is a bit more relaxed and yields 1 Lightbulb for everyone drawing a Calyptra bby of the already existing list! Check out the bulletin for it here! Lightbulbs can be exchanged against MYO Slots and occasionally adoptables, some members of the communities around the species also accept them as payment for commissions. C:

There is also currently 1 MYO Slot for sale at 7 Lightbulbs or 10.50 USD, with no trait cap. However, please know that traits with a higher number than 0 on the Species Guide must still be purchased for their alotted Lightbulb-value (1 = 1.50 USD, 2 = 3 USD, 3 = 4.50 USD).

Makes sense - like, maybe each month you can submit a certain number of pieces and you get points for that amount - OR - you can submit as many as you want, but you have to choose a few that you think you can get a lot of points out of. I feel like the second one encourages others to improve on certain things. (ex. if i made like... 20 pieces of art, i would choose 3-4 that i think could get me more points, look at the others, and kind of think "hey, i need to improve on ___." or something like that. My way of thinking is odd. It could also kind of help others look at my art or other's and think "hey, maybe i can take this element and put it in my art." i dont know.)

And hey, I'm full of ideas. I can always throw input in when it comes to my mind.

Points do seem a little complicated but I have seen similar systems around. I don't have a particularly strong opinion either way. I do see the issue that your friend brought up. Digital currency is a very iffy thing sometimes and, if you do this, you will need to maintain tight control over this method. However, I do like the idea of art for points for those without a budget.

Parziivale

I think the point system sounds like a great idea, personally! Point systems are inherently odd to work with no matter what you do with them, it's not going to please everyone, but I think it would be a better way to do it than to only to offer rare stuff for dozens of extra dollars. It gives people agency over what they can do with their designs.

I kind of understand the mobile game morality, but the thing I find different about mobile games is that they are often so skewed in free to play games that it's not realistic to get a rare item through grinding and it's just cheaper to buy it. I think that if you have that concern, the best way to do that is to find a reasonable rate of building middle currency.

One thing you might want to keep track of, however, that i've noticed in some groups of closed species is First Time Owners adoptables or caps on how many of your closed species one can own. That might help mitigate some stuff as well, as I recall there's sometimes drama over people "hoarding" good designs and not doing anything with them. Perhaps a small cap on how many calyptra one could own unless they show activity? But then again that could be considered micromanaging how people use their OCs, which isn't good either.

But it's just some thoughts on things! I don't know if they'll help, but I think this would be a pretty interesting concept!

Thank you guys so, so much for your feedback! So far most people seem to like the point idea (especially if it's tied to the possibility to earn points without having to purchase them for money) so I think I will carry that forward! I'll do my best to make it easy to understand in practice (maybe I can doodle up an easy guide).

I've also added some traits that I missed until now: torso_traits_by_broeckchen-dbvyj2x.png View in Stash

I think this means I've finally finished all art necessary for the species as a concept! Now I gotta finish the writing part. ;u; I am also working on a few adopts as prizes and first possible purchases for launch. Have another sneak peek~!

My current aim is to have everything finished and officially launch by Sunday, 12/11/2017 or sooner! Thank you all so much aain for helping me out so much, it's incredibly encouraging and makes me so happy!

huathorne

It's finally time! Here comes the launch, and with it some events that I hope you will enjoy!

Altogether the prizes entail 3 MYO Slots, 9 raffle prize adopts, and 1 secret santa adopt for each participant of the contest. Up for sale are 3 additional MYO slots and a special holiday adopt. I hope you will all find stuff you enjoy!

SweetieSylveon

Yessss!! I'm so ready!

Prismakry

thanks for the ping! I'll have to hold off on participating though, I already have far too many things on my plate that have to be finished in the next few weeks that I just honestly can't take on another one. I'll def keep an eye out for the future though and join your devart group and toyhouse world for now <3

Broeckchen

Prismakry No rush~! Aside from the purchaseable slots there are also going to be some raffles that you can get tickets for by merely commenting once if a finished adopt is down your alley, and the next MYO event will come, too~. I'm just so happy to be able to welcome you into the group and world!

huathorne

Broeckchen I'm not sure I can participate this time around because my schedule is so full but I would loveeee to purchase a MYO slot once I get some money!

Broeckchen

@artifexabyssal I'll note you down for one! Since the species only just launched there's not much demand yet, so this should be an easy grab for you. ^^
