I like the crystal idea, and I feel like you should focus on it and cut out excess like the wings. I did a sketch of a version I would use if it was mine but I can't post it atm. I feel like this could be a really nice species, it just needs a little polish. I'm in love with the way you draw them, so I would suggest getting the digital artist to trace over the traditional ones so the style stays the same. do the personality markings work like mlp cutie marks or like a soul mark meets the sixteenpersonality test? If the former I feel like having the species be a dta where you design the mark would work well.

Hello, I am looking to start a closed species and would like feedback on my ideas and also fresh ideas! This thread isn't complete with all my ideas, just what I can think of right now. I also need name ideas for the species. It would start out pretty cheap for everything, and if interest changes then prices may change.
They would start out as eggs, then hatch after a certain amount of time. I plan on including breeding, contests, and other fun things (really looking for ideas on those). These other things could include items to mutate, change characteristics, affect breeding, speed, up pregnancy or growth, etc. Possibly looking at my own currency for the species, so people could not only buy currency but also earn it in order to get things for free!
Breeding would be highly based on genetics, and each individual would have its own genetic "report." Might consider a small charge for it.
**Note that I am starting this traditionally and then turning it into digital. I am considering having someone else digitalize it! Money isn't really an option (or deviantart points) but I can trade my own art (traditional only), furvilla painties (and similar sites, such as novilar - any site that provides a lineart! - ask for my portfolio if interested, I can do more than just coloring), free stuff from the closed species (eggs, items, create your own pattern, etc), or whatever else we can come up with.**
As for the actual species, I'm not sure on exactly what I want yet, but I have a sketch made with some info on it. I feel like I might have over-complicated the design, though, so I'm open to ideas on that. Also note that the idea for the gem is that they draw power from it, and each one has a personalized one which is essentially its life force.
As for the breeding, each individual would carry two alleles for each gene, which includes coat color, coat pattern, tongue/muscle color, and mutations, each dominant, interdominant, or codominant, depending on the gene. Gem color/shape, quarter mark, and bracelet will be semi-random.
This is just an idea for now, and I'm not too sure about it. Constructive criticism only, please! No "it's too generic" "it sucks" etc without saying how to improve it, or say it in a respectful enough way. Mainly I would like to know if people would be interested in owning them, and what they would pay/offer (money, deviantart, characters, art, etc). Please take the poll, it's anonymous. If you have any ideas how to make it better or anything let me know in the comments.

Update Did another little sketch, got rid of wings and bracelet. Added magical fiery effect around the gemstone. The neck is too thin, but I will fix that in my next sketch, as well as give it a more "mean" expression.

I'm not entirely sure about what you mean with the personality markings, but the idea would fit into the lore about clans of them essentially getting tattoos to represent themselves. I really love the dta idea though! And I think I could cut out the wings and the bracelet, I did feel like the design was a bit loaded. I would love to see your sketch, I think it would help refine my idea.
Overall, I plan to do a final drawing after I get feedback and practice drawing it a few times. Thanks for your feedback!
