The weather was warm and the sun stayed up for longer periods of time. By noon it would be hot. Kaisara kicked off his boots and wiggled his toes in the humid air. He was traveling to Manhattan, relaying some documents from Tataheca signed by Hawkfather Auri as a favor to the leader of the Peninsula Tribe. He didn't know what the papers were about, he couldn't read, but they didn't interest him anyway.
He wasn't near the city yet but close enough he could see some of their farmlands through the trees. As the heat rose he'd deviated to a river and followed it to the shore. The sky was clear and the pale sands of the beach shone, contrasted against the deep blue of the sea. He could hear the shouts of many valos and knew he wasn't alone.
Hot days this early in spring meant holiday to the Valos. Many from Manhattan and the surrounding lands flocked to the shore for a relaxing day of play in the sea. Kaisara could recognize even a few from his own clan out on the beach, some with long boards for riding the surf. Children played with toys and adults participated in a game involving bouncing a ball back and forth between two teams on either side of a net. Were there any half-karkan among them?
Kaisara tied off his horse and sat under the treeline to watch his kin play. Would he be welcome here?
