✦ Intro

Key:

  • Fr: Francium
  • Ac: Actinium
  • RA: Radioactive

This is still a big wip so plz bear with me if something seems off or doesn't sound clear ;;

Any element could become radioactive; it'll depend on their isotope. An isotope is a variation on an element's atom in which the number of neutrons differ, which then makes changes to the overall mass of the atom. The neutrons are uncharged particles in the nucleus of the atom where it resides with the protons. Proton amount doesn't change since the number of protons determine what the element is. The elements all have a certain mass which can be found on the periodic table. Many atoms featured on the periodic table are stable, meaning they are not likely to spontaneously give off parts of itself. However, there are some atoms that are not stable enough to keep itself together, resulting in it losing parts of itself and this is what radiation is, to put it very briefly. These atoms are usually found near the bottom of the periodic table; they are usually very large in size. Backtracking back to the first statement, elements with an unusual mass number from the normal would be considered radioactive as well. The classic example is Carbon 14, which is a useful radioactive isotope of Carbon. The 14 indicates the isotope's approximate mass number; the usual mass for a stable carbon is 12.

Alright enough of this random high school chemistry lesson, let's get to my ocs :D

✦ OC Info

Features

The most noticeable feature of my radioactive ocs would be their eyes. Their eyes have smaller pupils than normal and would usually look thin. They could be of any color or colors but they're most likely of a lighter or brighter color. These are shown in both Actinium's and Francium's designs since they are known to be radioactive elements. Cesium almost falls into this but his eyes are just slightly larger, but he does have relations to the former two so some of these traits may cross over onto him with slight differences/ modifications.

Stability

For the most part my ocs would be pretty stable in terms of their character. Some may have their unique quirks and whatnot but it'll take something specific to trigger them, and it would be different for each. I could relate it to their half lives; by doing it like this, Actinium would be much more stable than Francium, because Ac's half life is around 21-22 years while Fr's is around 22 minutes. For character though I dont mean to say Fr is super unstable; the way her mind works is just different. Or the way she would act would be more spontaneous.

Accomodations

Radioactives tend to live among themselves since they're pretty similar to each other and know how to deal with each other. Usually radioactive elements tend to be very dangerous in real life since they, if strong or powerful enough, can cause major changes to the exposed body and can be toxic. Although in this chem world the RA's are treated with more respect, there's still a little caution when other elements are around them since most RA elements aren't well known enough. For their safety (and possibly the safety of others), they have their own housing community where most would live in. More stable RA's (or at least RA with longer half lives) are able to venture out in the world if they wish, while the others are more likely better off staying within the housing boundaries, or if they do go outside it's best if they were accompanied with a more stable partner. For example, if Fr wanted to go somewhere, her dad Ac would have to stay with her. This applies to most public places; if she wanted to do something at home or use the bathroom then she can do whatever she wants on her own. (I don't know if I'll decide to create other RA element ocs but I assume the similar concept would apply to those elements with extremely small half lives in the milli/seconds, and extremely large ones like Uranium and Plutonium whose are in the billions and thousands (years) ).

Wealth

RA's tend to be fairly wealthy; they have big houses that are organized neatly within their community and the amount of land and space they have depends on their own preferences. They are very helpful and dependent upon each other. Some of the older ones are usually more protective over the younger ones; this is the case with Ac and Fr.

Work

Some RAs dont have jobs, but theres some who have their own uses. The ones with jobs are said to be very smart; that's not to say the rest are stupid though. They just haven't found what they'll be useful for yet (usually most RA elements in real life decompose too quickly to be put into uses other than being studied or hoped to be studied if the scientists can keep the sample long enough).
