So I'm in this group that has me write quite a bit about some of my characters, and I figured I could put that stuff as a series on here! These short stories probably won't connect much, if at all.

aurora [ minerva]

Minerva snarled dodging out of the way of a much larger dragon as his hooved foot came down close near to her, only just resisiting the urge to snap at the offending limb, though she knew it wouldn't help her, though it would make her feel better. Instead the small dark dragon used her smaller size to escape the growing crowd; normally there wouldn't of been as many dragons but Minerva, and half the population of the settlement apparently had heard that tonight would be a spectacular aurora display, the likes of which potentially wouldn't be seen for several more years. There was just one problem, all of the good spots were taken, and so far she just kept getting pushed to oneside, other dragons using their greater height to move her. Finally she had enough, snapping at the air in anger.. "Fine, i'll head up to the mountains, least i'll have a better view than all of them." She hissed, bounding northwards, Hartwin knew she was wanting to see the aurora, so at least she didn't need to find him to tell him where she was going.

Halfway up the mountain though she started to struggle, the snow was deep enough that she had to jump to keep going forward, not only was it tiring but she could barely see anything; but she refused to give up, another jump took her to a rock that was sticking out. Even as she landed though, her claws slipped on the black ice, and she tumbled backwards, scrabbling as she tried to find something to hold onto, nothing but snow and ice meeting her claws as she fell.

All of a sudden she was stationary, and the dark dragoness opened her eyes, amidst the white landscape a purple snout held her body from falling any further, the fact that the head itself was bigger than her started to annoy Minerva, even if he had saved her, his red eyes gleaming as she righted herself, trying to make herself look bigger even as she turned on her 'rescuer', the huge purple dragon straightening as well. "Well, what do you want?" She hissed, noting his small arms and huge wings which he used for balance. "Just wondering where you're headed." He responded, not even blinking at her tone, or her lack of thanks for that matter. Minerva stared up at him, trying to decide if she should tell him; finally she shrugged. "I'm heading up to get the best view of the aurora." She said sniffing, watching as the huge dragon looked upwards, cocking his head. "Can i come along? i'd love to see them as well?" He asked returning to look at her. Minerva glared, pretty positive he was only asking since she was so small, probabably thought he was been chivilrous. Still..... " Fine, i'll show you the way, but you have to carry me." She demanded.

Avanindra fought to keep a smile of his face, not that he doubted the small dragoness wouldn't get to where she was wanting to, and he did want to see the aurora. "Sure." He replied, lowering his head so she could climb up behind his crest, her claws digging in slightly, but they were pinpricks at best. "I'm Avani." He offered as the dark dragon urged him onwards, as he lumbered up the side of the mountain, his powerful hing legs collapsing the snow beneath as he dug his claws in to prevent any slipping, he also used his wings to further stabilise himself. After a few strided, the dark dragon finally answered. "Minerva." if a bit grudgingly.

Their progress was slow, but Minerva couldn't fault the huge dragons steady pace, one of his strides covered more than she had been able to acheive with her jumping, and he could talk, she rolled her eyes, only half listening as he chattered away. "Hurry up, we'll miss it." She hissed, tugging on his mane, having been aware of the slowly darkening sky. The drake chuckled, but picked up the pace slightly.... for a few minutes before stopping. Minerva growled. "Why did you stop." She demanded, peering down to stare into one of the red narrowed eyes. "Because we're at a ravine." He answered, Minevra looked up and stared eyes wide at the huge crack in the mountains, sides so steep she doubted any dragon could climb them. "We need to get higher." She hissed, they wouldn't be able to see the aurora at this rate.

Before Avani could reply the frst flickers of light illuminated the ravine, causing both dragons to stare, the aurora starting to form as night descended fully, Minerva leaned back, only adjusting herself as the earth dragon lay down, his head remaining upright as he got comfortable. More and more light filteredt through, dozens of colors playing in the night sky as it dances through the ravine and further out, lighting up the whole horizon, greens, blues, purples whites, the colors shifting in an ever changing rainbow, the awe and beauty of the display enough to keep its audience hushed as it continued. Neither Avani nor Minerva spoke, both settling down to watch the display .....
