So I'm in this group that has me write quite a bit about some of my characters, and I figured I could put that stuff as a series on here! These short stories probably won't connect much, if at all.

a trio of adventures [ fox and chrysanthos ]

GINGERBREAD

with cowerosity's Malin and Mikozyu

Fox looked down at the dark waters of the lake below him. He and Chrysanthos were sitting on the shoreline of said lake, and the small fox cub was dangling his feet into the water He was listening to the sound of the wind whispering around them and feeling the soft grass he was sitting on. Mentally, he and his dragon were talking about an interesting duo they had heard lived beneath the waters of this place.

*Cry! Do you think it's really true? Do some people actually live underwater? I mean, the stories weren't made up?* Fox asked his friend.

Chrysanthos was preening the feathers of his wings from his spot next to Fox on the grass. He looked down at Fox and smiled. *I'm sure it's very true! Remember, didn't Ashgar say he'd been down there himself?* The dragon looked up at the sky to watch the clouds above them blow ever onwards. *The only hard part will be getting them to come up so you can give them your gift.*

Fox sighed. One paw reached out to make sure the package Uncle Teeba and Uncle Otulius had helped him wrap was still next to him. The colorful package was definitely there, indeed. *I wonder if these things would even taste good once it got wet.*

As he pondered these things, there was a sudden bubbling in the water a bit further out, and both Fox and Cry set their gaze out to the lake to see what was going on. A couple moments later, a huge blue dragon emerged from the depths, with a red - cloaked figure riding on their back.

*That's it! That's them!* Fox mentally exclaimed. *Cry, can you get them to come over here?*

Chrysanthos nodded once and with a flap of his wings, rose into the air. He glided his way towards the duo. Through Fox's mental connection with Cry, he felt him have some short conversation with the two mysterious folks, and then they were all coming over to where Fox still sat, in the fading daylight. He lifted up a paw and waved towards the fine folks he was so very curious to learn more about.

"Hey, there!" the fellow with the red cape said as he leapt off the back of his dragon and landed in the grass. The sound was muffled by the mask he wore, but it was clear that he was incredibly friendly. His dragon stayed in the shallows of the water but nodded to Fox all the same. "Your dragon here said you wanted to meet us, see if the rumors about us living under the lake were true?"

Fox nodded eagerly. He took the package to his right and gave it to the dragon rider carefully. *Can you tell them our names and ask how they eat stuff underwater?* the fox cub mentally asked Chrysanthos. The dragon smiled, and agreed silently.

"I'm Chrysanthos. This here is Fox. He was really curious about how you guys actually live underwater, so he made you a gift and everything. There's about 20 questions written in there. Oh, and also some baked goods for you both."

"Really?" the red caped man said, with a small laugh. "Well I'll gladly answer all your questions, Fox." He took the gift in his hands and opened it up - first the gift wrap came off, and then the top of the box. Sure enough, there was a piece of paper inside with many neatly written questions, as well as a bunch of freshly baked gingerbread. "Mikozyu! Get over here and help me eat these treats and answer these questions!" he said as he sat down in the grass next to Fox.

"Which question do you want me to answer first?"

SNOW STEEDS

with Zincwolf's Lyra

The snow was falling fast, faster than Fox had seen before (though snow storms weren't very common back in his home planet of Silvarum anyway). It was so cold... He couldn't feel the tips of his limbs any more. Or his nose. This wasn't good, now was it? Fox tried to bury himself deeper into Chrysanthos's feathers. Maybe if he just could get some sleep... then he would wake up later, in a wonderful warm bed back home.

As Fox started to drift off, Chrysanthos was busy panicking. They had wandered off on an adventure that morning and had gotten hopelessly lost by the time the snow started to roll on in. Now, Fox was shivering on his back and Cry was feeling the cold himself. Oh, if only he could find some type of shelter for himself and the fox cub on his back. He tried to puff up his feathers a bit more and just kept on walking. One foot in front of the other. Claw step after claw step, he made his way through the snow as more of it fell all around him. In every direction, there was only more white.

But wait - wait there, was that a flash of color not far away? Yes, there was something, or someone else, there in the middle of the snow storm. The grey and orange dragon stumbled through the white powder that surrounded him on all sides, trying to get towards whatever was waiting in the white.

Chrysanthos had to keep walking closer until he was only a couple feet away to see what the thing was. There was another dragon walking purposefully through the snow, in some unknown direction. "Hold up! Please help!" Cry called to the other over the sound of the howling wind. The horse like dragon stopped, turned around to peer at Chrysanthos, and nodded once.

"Keep up, then, wanderer," she said simply, and continued to march forwards through the cold and endless white. Cry found it difficult to move much faster than he was already, but knew that the saftey of both himself and Fox relied on his ability to follow this stranger.

It was a short, ten minute walk through the snow until the shelter of a cave loomed into view. The stranger went right inside, and Cry hurried to bundle himself and the now fast asleep fox on his back on in after them.

It took a moment for his eyes to get used to the relative darkness of the cave, but he could instantly tell it was warmer than outside - far warmer. A quick look at his new surroundings and he saw his savior sitting down by a fire. Cry went on over himself and sat down next to the blazing flames. Oh, the warmth brightened both his scales and his heart.

"Listen... thank you, whoever you are. You saved my life, and that of my friend here," he said, heart full of gratitude. He was warmer than before, and it was going to be okay. "I'm Chrysanthos. How about you?"

The colorful dragon was cleaning the melting snow out of her feathers, but when Cry spoke she stopped to look at him. "Lyra. You should know this place gets snowstorms quite often this time of year. What were you doing out in the cold?"

Cry sighed. "Fox and I really love adventures, you know? So we went exploring. I've never been in this part of the world before."

Lyra huffed in amusement and frustration. "I understand what you mean, but next time be sure to plan ahead, okay?"

Chrysanthos nodded. He was so glad to be safe once more.

WINTER SPIRIT

with reyARPG's Delko

Chrysanthos found that he loved the snow. Or at least, he loved when the snow wasn't falling down around him endlessly quickly. Today, thankfully, it wasn't. Instead of the harsh blizzards that Cry hated so much, tiny particles of white were gently falling from the sky as he sat in the snow that winter morning. Fox, from his usual place on Cry's back, was wrapped up in several blankets and asking him a thousand questions about how the snow worked. Cry was happy to answer them, as Teeba's house was a short, 10 minute walk away - no risk of getting stuck out in a snowstorm like last time. So he listened to his friend with out any worries.

*Why is it so cold? Why isn't it just rain? Cry, why does it look so neat?* Fox mentally questioned. It was clear that he was in awe of winter, but from what Cry remembered, snow wasn't very common where the fox cub used to live.

The grey and orange dragon smiled as he tried to answer the many questions Fox had before any more could be asked. *You're overwhelming me a little bit here, kid, slow down a bit.* It was honestly difficult to answer questions for things he himself hadn't experienced much about, either, but he was trying his best.

As the two talked and listened to the quiet sounds of the forest around them, Chrysanthos noticed a figure off in the distance. When he made eye contact with whoever it was, he raised a wing and waved. "Hello over there!" Chrysanthos called out. Fox looked out in interest. He always was willing to meet someone new.

The mysterious dragon started to run on over, and when he got closer Cry was able to see what the dragon looked like. This was a dark dragon for sure, scales constantly falling away in dark wisps and reforming. He cut a wavy path through the layer of snow on the ground.

When the dragon made it up to them, he extended a paw out to Fox. *What's going on?* asked the quiet dragon rider. Still, he reached out a hand back and a candy cane was dropped into it. The interesting dark dragon nodded, gave the two a friendly smile, and simply turned and started to walk off.

"Wait!" Fox called out before the dragon could take more than a few steps. When he turned around, Fox smiled. "Thank you."

. . .

A couple hours later, the duo was back inside their cheerful fortress in the basement of Teeba's house. Fox was still trying to get the chill out of his fur, but the warm candles that brightened up their little home helped quite a bit. The friendly fox cub reached up to one of the few shelves Teeba had helped install in the room and placed the candy cane upon it.

*Are you not going to eat it, then?* Cry asked. He was resting on the ground in a pile of blankets, nearly falling asleep. Still, he looked blearily up at Fox to ask the question. *Probably tastes good.*

Fox shook his head simply. He jumped back down and started to make a blanket pile for himself. *I want to keep it. Like a little memory of one of our adventures, you know? It just feels like something special.* He grabbed one of the extra fluffy blankets and put it over his head. *Winter here is... pretty neat, Cry.*

Chrysanthos closed his eyes and smiled, thinking back to the kind dragon they had met out in the woods. *I agree completely, Fox. I really do.*
