New Experience! Learning How to Cook

Cooking is a lot harder than I expected. I decided to try to learn how to cook on my own today, it was really weird. I went to ask the cooking class teacher how to find ways to cook, BUT SHE BROUGHT OUT THIS HUGE BOOK AND I’M SCARED. I DIDN’T KNOW COOKING INVOLVED BIG BOOKS. SCARY. But she showed me something, “recipes” she called them. They were how to cook a dish a certain way. I asked Grandma if she could send me a book like that and she said she was coming over with her own recipe book.

So I waited…and waited…and Grandma came over with a bunch of cooking materials and the book! Grandma is so awesome, I wanna be like her! But anyway, she brought it over and I read some things. I remembered the meat dish I made the other day, the roast chicken. I told her everything, everything! I told her how I cooked the chicken real good, though some of it was burnt, but it made things crispier and not too bitter actually! More…I couldn’t find the right word. Grandma said the word I was looking for was “savory.” Which is basically super delicious, she told me! So yeah, my dish became savory!

But not all dishes are savory. You gotta work real hard to make it savory! I saw a meat dish recipe in Grandma’s book and pointed it to her and said, “I’m gonna cook that! Okay? Hang tight!” Grandma ended up not hanging tight though, she kept being near me as I was reading the recipe and went to make everything. But…she didn’t interfere. Not really. Until I realized I didn’t have all the ingredients. So we went shopping for those ingredients, Grandma and I. THE SHOP. HAD SO MANY THINGS. THERE WERE SO MANY INGREDIENTS THAT IT MADE ME STARE IN AWE. THERE’S SO. MANY. OPTIONS. AND IT’S SCARY BUT IT’S SO COOL TOO! So we bought ground meat along with some vegetables for the dish. And sauce! Tomato sauce! Tomato sauce looked super yummy AND THERE WERE SO MANY DIFFERENT OPTIONS. REGULAR TOMATO? GARLIC TOMATO? SPICY TOMATO? THERE WERE SO MANY AAAAAAH. But we just bought the garlic one because Grandma said it would taste super good and I believe her.

We went back and we began to cook after that! Ground meat is super squishy and feels so cool and nice! I never felt anything like it and it was super fun to play around! I squished and squished and Grandma was laughing as I squished it and made everything squishy! Oh! But before that I watch Grandma cut up some stuff with a knife. A knife…well, it was interesting yeah. But didn’t know you had to cut stuff up with a knife. Really interesting…at least it’s not broken glass you can cut things up. Ugh, please no…but enough of that! I got to squish the meat and she added all the cut up other stuff and I squished in there real good! Super good! Mixed everything up all squishy and nice~! So I squished and squished some more before spreading a thin layer on some tinfoil in a pan. And then we added the tomato sauce and cheese and added more meat, then more and more and repeat! It was super nice! After that, we preheated the oven, which I showed Grandma I could do now because I learned it from cooking club, and then we waited until it was ready to bake! Then I put it in there and it was done!

After that, as we waited, I read over the recipe book. There’s so many…it was really interesting. But I never knew there was so much food like that…I just, it made my stomach hurt for some reason and I was starting to get really watery in the mouth. Which isn’t normally good… I remembered something from my past life. Going hungry. That happened a lot…and I remembered yelling and “DON’T TOUCH MY FOOD,” and just lying on the floor for a long time before I was allowed to go back upstairs. Not fun… …Grandma saw me shaking a little and she hugged me. I hugged her back and buried my face in her chest and told her I remembered something from my past life. I didn’t see her expression…but she was being soothing and humming that weird lullaby she always sang whenever I was feeling down or remembering something. Hearing that…always makes me feel warm and fuzzy. And relaxed. And happy! So I was happy again and she said that I could eat as much of the lasagna as I wanted. Can you believe it? A lot of it! A dream come true… But I wanted to share with Grandma too. We both promised to split it in half and then we checked the lasagna. Still baking, so we poured over the recipe book with me in her lap.

And then the lasagna was done! I tried it, it was super good! The gouda cheese really is delicious even though it costed a lot of money! Grandma and I talked a lot while we ate and I told her of Monopoly and how I didn’t get money management. She told me it was something grownups did. Grownups, huh? If I want to learn how to be a grownup, though I can’t grow anymore, then I’m gonna have to learn how to manage money! I’ll learn how to do that next, for sure! We ate and talked and I was sooo full! I couldn’t eat another bite even though I ate a quarter of my lasagna! Grandma couldn’t eat too much either, so we put it in the fridge and then she taught me how to use a microwave! Apparently microwaves can also make popcorn, I never knew that! We promised to watch a movie afterwards with popcorn and Grandma stayed until we weren’t full anymore and then we could make popcorn! …We had to go out to the store to buy a box full of popcorn bags though. Again. Hahaha, I guess I need to learn how to shop too! But that comes with money management so I guess I really need to kick my butt into gear? My next goal? Money management for sure!

Cooking is hard, but it’s super rewarding and you can make so many yummy foods! I want to learn how to cook so many dishes as an adventurer! And then, I can become a cook too! It’ll be a blast! I had fun today, I hope tomorrow will be fun too!
