its the morning of pearl's tenth birthday

It's a lazy Sunday. Despite nothing happening the day before, everyone just wants to sleep in.
Except for someone.

Trying her best to tiptoe down the hall to her parent's room, Pearl had a bit of a smug look on her face. She had been practicing this for weeks while everyone else wasn't home. She tried to crack the door open just a bit, just enough so she could see inside - her two moms fast asleep.
She closed her eyes, focused on the spot above and bed, and;

"AUGH!"

In a burst of sparkles, Pearl had teleported from just outside the door to just above her parent's bed... and she had fallen directly onto Renee's face.
There was a bit of a scramble as everyone attempted to figure out what was going on. Renee jerked back and started feeling around on the nightstand for her glasses, while Pearl awkwardly suffled to the edge of the bed.
Emmy got up more slowly, mumbling to herself, and looking towards Renee, and then Pearl.

"Pearl, that's... you? How did you get here...?"
Renee was rubbing her forehead and trying to wake up the best she could. Pearl looked to the side, realizing she had made things a bit awkward - and that her birthday wake-up call wasn't exactly going how she'd wished.
Pearl was thinking, and was about to say something, until Emmy cut her off.

"Pearl, see, I've told you that you can't just use your powers all willy-nilly like that! You've still got a ways to go until you're able to use them whenever you want."
Emmy sighed and rubbed her face.
"But I guess I'll cut you some slack for now. After all... if I can remember correctly, it's somebody's BIRTHDAY!"

Emmy rolled over and grabbed Pearl in a sort of tackle hug with one arm, and ruffled her hair with her other arm. Pearl was giggling, and went to hug her mom back.

"Happy birthday, Pearls!" Renee said, rather quietly.
She had caught her bearings a bit and went to hug Pearl as well.

Pearl giggled a bit before playfully pushing away;
"Stop it! I'm not a little kid anymore!"

"That's right...! Big one-zero, huh?" Emmy said, sitting up and stretching her arms.

"Mhm! I was so excited that I was up all night!!"

Renee stepped out of bed with a bit of a concerned chuckle.
"Pearls, that's not good for you, you know... you should've slept at least a bit! Maybe you can take a bit of a nap while your mom and I get ready-"

Pearl turned around to face Renee at the suggestion of taking a nap.
"No way!! I wanna get my starter as soon as I can!!"

"Your... starter...?"

"Yeah!! I'm finally 10! I can go on my own league adventure now!!"

Renee and Emmy went quiet, trying to silently communicate something to say. The two of them knew Pearl would inevitably bring up the adventure thing, but they didn't suspect she would be so overly-enthusiastic about it.
While the official, legal age for one to enter the pokemon league, and by extension, go on a regional adventure, was 10 years old, the two had doubts about how Pearl would fare - especially with her powers. And with what happened to Renee on hers...

"So...? Did I say something wrong...?"
Pearl broke the silence and cut Renee and Emmy out of their thinking trance.

"Well, uhm... you see, er..."
Renee couldn't exactly find the worlds she was looking for to explain to Pearl; she tried to motion towards her wife to get her to say something, seeing as she was better with things on-the-spot.

"Pearls... why didn't you say you wanted this beforehand?"

"I wanted it to be a surprise, mom!"

"Some things can't really be surprises, Pearls" Emmy sighed.

"Yeah, but you know now! Let's go let's go!!"

"A regional pokemon adventure requires LOTS of planning! Plus, just because you're barely old enough doesn't mean it's the best time..."

"But moooooooooooooooooooom..."
Pearl looked like she was tearing up a bit, and began to sniffle. She had really been looking forward to starting her adventure as soon as possible, even if she didn't know how realistic it could be.

Renee motioned over towards Pearl and put her hand on her shoulder.
"Sweetie, regional adventures aren't exactly what they're like on TV. More people go when they're older and more grown-up."

"But I CAN be grown up!! I double pinkie promise!"

"Pearls..."

Renee was tired already; she didn't feel like getting into an argument with her daughter this early, especially on her birthday. Emmy felt the same way, and just wanted to take a shower and eat breakfast.
So, Emmy chimed in.

"Look, how about I promise you something? When you turn 15... you can go on a league adventure in any region you want."

"But's that's so long away!! And how do I know you'll keep your promise...?"

"Pearls, you can wait - most people go when they're 15. Here, I'll write it down and put it in an envelope, and put it in the kitchen. On your birthday, you can open it and I'll keep my promise, alright?"

"Okay... I... I promise!"

With a meltdown narrowly avoided, Renee got up again and tied up her hair.

"Well, I guess I'll get food ready. I got some donuts last night..."

"DONUTS?!"
Renee was interrupted by Pearl, who immediately ran down to the kitchen to get the first pick.

Emmy let out a long sigh.
"Well, that was one way to deal with it..."

"Honey, are you sure she'll even be ready to go out on her own when she's 15...?"

"We'll see. I hope so, because I don't like breaking promises."

Renee let out a bit of a small laugh.
"Well, I'll go down and hope that she hasn't stuffed all those donuts in her face already. Were you going to call Aster and Zinnia to see how they were doing?"

"Mhm, I remember Aster saying something about a rather large present..."

"Oho, interesting! I'm interested to see exactly what it is..."
"I love you, Emmy."

"I love you too."

To be opened of PEARL'S 15th birthday...

I, Emmy, promise to let you, Pearl, go on a regional league adventure in any region of your choice, upon reaching the age of 15. Double pinkie promise.

But, until then, keep being an amazing daughter.

We all love you, Pearls!
