The summer's sun was unforgiving, especially inside the old dance theatre. The building had no central cooling, so Kaguya was left to lie down in front of the cheap box fan in her room to escape the heat. Her TV droned on, but she wasn't really paying any attention to it. Instead, she was trying to nap the day away, but alas, the heat was too much, so Kaguya was just left to lie down and tune everything out.
And she was content to do just that - at least, until she heard her phone buzz.

Kaguya still wasn't entirely familiar with the device, as she had been gifted it fairly recently. But what she did know was that a buzz meant one of them was talking to her. Kaguya slowly picked herself up off her bed and moved into a sitting position, her long hair being blown in her face by the fan. As she moved to tuck it behind her ear with one hand, she picked up her phone in the other.

>hey!!! me n haru probably aren't gonna make it over until tonight, it's too hot lol
>this heatwave is killin me x_x

Oh, it was Basil. It was disappointing to hear that their visit, along with Haru's, would be delayed. Kaguya always looked forwards to their visits and sleepovers, even if they took longer than usual to arrive. Tapping the speech to text button as she preferred to do, Kaguya spoke, and her words slowly formed on the screen.

>>That's too bad. If you take too long, I'm going to eat all the snacks left around.

Kaguya didn't like how speech to text made her sound so blunt and serious - she'd really prefer just calling, but Basil in particular seemed insistent on texting. Though now that she thought about it, it was one of the many things Kaguya admired about Basil. Their way with words always seemed so casual, yet so smooth, like they knew exactly what to say. Kaguya could listen to them for hours, their voice comparable to the softer melodies they'd write on their guitar.

Kaguya caught herself. Goodness, what am I thinking?; she thought, letting out a sigh. It was still fairly recently she'd come to terms with her... feelings, but Kaguya still didn't quite know how to manage them.
She wasn't familiar with romance. Even the most remotely romantic thing from her past - being pursued by the sons of Ecruteak's elite - was just a game to her. Toying with their feelings was nothing more than something to pass her time while in the palace - for she thought that surely, nobody could complete any of her requests. But it seemed...

Kaguya's phone buzzed again. She snapped back from her thoughts and picked it up.
This time it was a picture message.

>we got some snacks of our own tho B)

The image pictured Haru, and a bit of Basil leaning in from the side. Both of them were holding shaved ice, and Haru's mask was down, revealing her smile. Kaguya zoomed in a bit on Haru's face before closing the image and setting her phone down by her side.

There was still a lot that Kaguya didn't know about Haru, even though she'd been her friend for the longest time, it seemed. Kaguya did know that Haru didn't emote a lot, so she found that it made her feel special that Haru would smile around her all the time. It was a beautiful smile, even if she did go to such an extent to hide it. Ever since the day they met, Haru had been nothing but kind towards Kaguya. Her mind wandered back to the long nights where they'd stay up and watch docuseries together, with Kaguya more often than not falling asleep on Haru's shoulder. Haru was a warm presence, and whenever she was around, Kaguya felt like sure was truly home.

And there she went again, on a spiral down her own memories and thoughts. Kaguya really, truly appreciated Basil and Haru, more than anyone else she'd ever met. She loved them. Love seemed like such an abstract concept to Kaguya, but when thinking of those two it suddenly all made sense. She'd find herself pining for them on the days when they weren't around, just as she was at the moment - whether she'd like to admit that or not.
But it seemed... they did fulfill her truly impossible request. Kaguya never asked, but Haru and Basil gave her safety and trust and warmth that she never knew she could have.

Kaguya picked up her phone, and instead of choosing to dictate her words, and carefully typed them out.

>>i love you both

Was she too forwards? Was she too caught up in her thoughts that she had forgotten how to reply? Was her typing tone wrong? Hopefully it didn't seem too out of place, given what Basil's last text was.
Before she could think much on it, Kaguya got her reply.

>we love you too!!
