Night Calls

Staring up towards where the night sky would be, Rayden had his arms crossed as he laid wet and cold on the ground. A towel, that he refused to ruffle his yellow locks with out of spite, draped over his head. On the plus side, they had a nice fire going next to him that was keeping him warm. On the minus, he was still pissed off at Adam for pushing him into the river. Water wrestling before bed had not been on the day's agenda as far as the half demon was concerned. It had been a great day up until then. Suuure he might have had a grand time dousing that fiery hair in the water with him to splash around. But that was then, now he was a piece of upsetty.

Darkness was doing his best to try and help. Laying over Rayden's lap, he let the other stroke away the huffiness, purring away like a giant black cat. It wasn't much, but it was something. He tried to send those nice calming feels too, sooooo happy, and wanting his rider to feel the same as well.

Sitting with a towel draped around his shoulder, Adam was leaning closer to the fire with some cubes of meat on the ends. Dinner had passed, but they had acquired some strays that came to the smell of food and noise. What sort of person would Adam be to not feed them when they waited so patiently for the pair to come out of the water, soaked to the bone with one of them very upset.

He was expecting this though, unbothered as he hummed off key and tossed one of the pieces to one of the wild dogs as Rai came back with some bird that was already roasted and would serve well as just something to toss to the animals while he cooked more of their scraps for them.

“How was hunting?”

“Boring, everything is sleeping now!”

“It is late...” Drifting off, his red eyes looked up to Rayden who was still huffing away on the other side of the fire, leaving him just shaking his head. “If you get sick I’ll have to come over and take care of you, dry your hair off already before you get too cold.”

His plan did work, with Rayden feeling very cold, but he forgot he was just as stubborn as he was and had gone back to his more chill state after a nice dry and change of clothes.

“It’ll be colder later on tonight as well, though I could set the tent on fire.”

“You’ll do no such thing Rai.”

“But what if!” Shaking his head, as he tossed another to a wild feline that was lurking on the outskirts, Adam just sighed at Rayden again.

Making a grunting sound at the red head, Rayden patted Darkness and gently shoved him off. They weren't heavy, but they took up a lot of space that he needed to sit up with. Totally not because of Adam's threat... completely. Part of it was also because the hard earth was starting to hurt his back. A few blankets and pillows would ease that, but he didn't want to crawl into bed wet either. "Fuck off, I can take care of myself." Something he had done before, though he had to send the kids all off to friends and different relatives' houses until he had gotten better. It took a lot longer than planned, but he was hardy enough to fight off one stupid cold.

Turning his head slightly, he jumped at the glowing eyes blinking at the campfire from a distance. As long as they stayed over there and practiced social distancing, they wouldn't have a problem. "No what ifs Rai, that's a good waste of a tent."

Nodding along, Darkness was rolled off of his rider and currently snaking his way over to Adam to get a couple bites to eat for both him and Rayden. The blond was finally rubbing that towel over his head, and the dragon was quickly learning that good deeds were rewarded with good treats! His rider certainly deserved one as well for working hard against sickness!

Hunting late at night was what Darkness did best though, so it seemed it was his turn to tag out with Rai. Shrieking softly, he looked back and forth between the fire and tree line before slithering closer to the shadows.

“I’m sure you can Rayden.” Starting to brush out his damp hair as the stick was stabbed into the ground at an angle to keep it cooking, as the darkness came over he indeed did give in easily enough as Darkness came over and grabbed the stick from him. He had a few more already stabbed in around the fire, but like good wild creatures the animals stayed at bay and waited for the strange red headed male to toss them the food before they went hog wild for it.

“The fire keeps you so warm though Rayden, oh so warm.” Getting stared at in what could assume was a blank look from Adam, it was actually Adam telling his dragon off and sending those upset vibes at him. A good way to get the dragon to suddenly drop the idea and decide it would be a great time to show Darkness all the spots he found that held sleeping creatures that were a little too big for him. “I think Darkness calls to me, I shall retreat for now.” Spreading his wings and off into the night, Adam just shook his head and let him go. Even if they came back late he’d open the tent for them to let them in and he’d be damned if any creatures of the wilderness thought they could take on the small looking lizard. He worried more about the trees and foliage than he did Rai.

“Either way, we should get some sleep soon. The sunrise is very pretty when out of the city, or are you going to sulk and sleep in?” Mostly teasing the other, Adam tossed his brush back into the pouch that was just sitting in his lap for now before that was tossed into the tent to be hung up later on one of the spots for such things. He wasn’t tired but laying did sound nice, even if it was with an angry boy.

Waving Darkness off and Rai, it was much easier seeing where the black dragon was disappearing to thanks to his bony limbs being kept out. No one currently seemed to mind the multiple sets of arms, so he was more comfortable letting them be free to do as they pleased than curled up into himself. Getting those snapping finger wiggles back, he watched the pair disappear with his dragon gently hissing at the other in attempted communication. They did sound happy at least to be shown the way.

Munching on the stolen stick, Rayden squinted a little more, but even he was too tired not to give in with a sigh. "Noo, I wanna see it too. You better stay to your own side though." Pointing an accusing finger at Adam, the blond ruffled the towel over his long damp hair, making it fluff out slightly. Even though it was before bed, he still put the hair back up in its pony tail, preferring to keep it off his neck when wet. "How 'bout just one more of those sticks though before sleep... please." He tack on after a moments pause.

Slow progress.
