And in that moment, all the courage he had built in the years since that incident, went down the drain faster than the water that had almost drowned him. Seeing his would-be murderer, seeing that man, nay, that monster stand before him had effectively eliminated any bit of nerve he had left in his body.

As such, he backed up, backed down, slowly inching backwards, not losing his line of sight for a moment, not even to blink, until he had finally backed around a corner. It was there that his common sense finally won the fight with his instincts again.

Without glancing towards the man again, he had realized that the inhuman creature that had nearly caused him to die was, even now, nothing more than a little kid. A few years older, but still barely a teenager. He himself had grown taller, stronger, more mature in considerably less time. A byproduct of being born a cat, perhaps.

But despite that right now he could drown this miserable wretch with ease himself, the memory of the monster who pushed him under water as he was nothing but a tiny kitten himself won out against rationality. His fear winning from common sense.

Though he had managed to calm himself right now, it was unlikely that he would ever conquer his fear of water.
