Dragon Companion

Flying through the air, what looked like a giant bug zoomed its way past a stone tower. Earning the always curious gaze of the blue dragon inside, Liam jumped when the sound of wings approaching soon started causing the world to flash sharper into his unique sense of vision. "Are you a biiiiig jungle dragon?" They questioned, unknowingly making big eyes at the insect looking creature.

Offering a nervous smile, Liam slowed to a halt mid air, shaking his head, "No, I'm sorry, I'm here looking for someone named Gerold. I was told they were the one in charge of the nearest dragon breeding grounds."

Tilting his head slightly, Kuro suddenly smiled and nodded excitedly, "Oh yeah! Uuuuuhm, I haven't seen him today, since Grim said to stay inside, but- OH I have to go back inside, er, try that big building over there!" Pointing without realizing the flier without eyes couldn't actually see the building until he got closer, Kuro quickly turned around to zoom his way back towards the stone tower. Hopefully before Grim noticed he had snuck out.

Though he wasn't sure who Grim was, Liam still thanked what he also assumed was an elemental dragon and buzzed his way in the direction he had seen their finger pointing. Thankfully the building wasn't too far as he flew over, landing in front of the door to knock at it.

“Gerold! The babies won’t leave me be!” Alphonse yelped as he ran away from the small army of younglings that just wanted to play with him even if he didn’t want to play. He was trying to split the earth and find gems when he was interrupted, and started to flee from the smalls that just wanted to roll and tackle.

“They just want to play with you, they mean no harm.” Gerold told the dragon as he raked the leaves up as a few more smalls ran over  to Al who was still running off. Sighing, he whistled as Al ran to him. Snuggling under Gerold’s neck as the babies crowded around him while Gerold just patted his pretty big dragon that was still growing.

“Are you sure?” The raptor like dragon asked, his underbite quivering a bit as he was just pat some more by the light colored rider.

“I’m positive, why don’t you go play fetch with them or something. There may be a small cave by Grim’s and Kuro’s tower you can lead them through too, just make sure to be careful with them all. THey are fragile little things...” Or so he was often told. Though a breeder, he didn’t acquire his dragons till more recently, and found Al to be quite well built over all. Mint was lazier, but was smaller so he didn’t let the huffy horse do everything he so pleased.

Looking up into the bright sky as a humanoid shape was descending, he wondered who had come to visit as he wasn’t expecting anyone. Not that he minded the company, he just wished he had more time to prepare was all he desired.

Enjoying all the sounds of his surroundings, Liam had never been to such a bustling place before. The village that him and what he considered as his adopted daughter, Clementine, were staying in might have had as many residents as here, but not nearly as many of them were of the dragon variety. For the most part everyone stayed to themselves and it was a nice, quiet village without the occasional raptor screech.

Still simply waiting in front of that door for someone to open it, he jumped when it actually did, having raised his hand to try the knocking again. Quickly lowering it back down, he could tell that the one in front of him was much shorter than he. Though that wasn't hard with his seven foot height when not bending down with his long neck. "Sorry about the wait, was there something you needed sweetheart?" Tilting his head slightly at the stranger, he paused for a moment 'staring' at the male in front of him. By their silhouette they were obviously female, but by their voice, they had that subtle tone to his acute sense of hearing that was only male.

Certainly not one to judge, he bowed his head, "Yes! I was searching for the one in charge of the breeding grounds? I had a few questions for them." Looking over the odd creature with a curious smile, they gestured over to the quarry that was already close by. "You just missed him, that's Gerold right over there. If you'll excuse me though, I've got to hurry back and stir the soup." Liam offered a quick apology as the nice fellow departed back inside, turning back with a bit of blush around the carapace on his face as he called out to the one he hadn't considered would be the owner. "Excuse me! Are you Gerold by chance?"

“Can I teach the earth ones about being strong?” Alphonse asked excitedly, his piked tail swaying with his entire body as he made those big eyes up at Gerold who stared back, patting Al one more as he reached down to pat some of the smaller dragons as well who were pulling and tugging at his white pants with their dirty hands and claws.

“Yes, that sounds like a great idea. Just make sure to be careful. There will be many sad parent dragons if you squish them.” Overjoyed to be able to show off some, Al ran off into the distance and could be seen lifting a smaller boulder for the kids to watch, setting it down and lifting it up again with many smallers towered on top and laughing as they were up in the air. Shaking his head, there was no harm being done so Gerold left them to it as he turned to the taller male who was asking him a question.

“I am indeed, what may I do for you?” Rolling his sleeve up as he moved closer, they reminded him of a dragon he had seen before, but there weren’t many sentient and wild dragons that would just come seek him out for no reason. Figuring maybe another rider sent them to the sanctuary.

Glad to have found the master of the sanctuary, Liam even the slight wag of his tail was enough to send his whole body into a light sway. Wringing his hands together out of habit, he bowed his head to them in greeting. "I was hoping you might have a bit of advice on how to care for many dragons at once?" Frantically waving his hands, he quickly went on, "If not, or if it's a bother that's fine too, I was simply wanting to ask since yours is the closet breeding sanctuary to our village!" Which was still quite the ways away, but it was far easier to get to by air.

He had come along for some notes to bring back since both his and Clementine's dragons would be staying in a smaller building until he pulled in enough favor to expand it. "It's a days travel between here and there even by flight, and I'd rather not send the dragons off to live in the surrounding forest because we couldn't figure how to take care of them efficiently."

Humming as he listened to the other male’s predicament, his eyes drifted back over to Alphonse as he was being chased by the small hoard of children that was growing only more now that he was playing with the smaller dragons as they wanted and not just fleeing away from them. Turning back to the blue colored humanoid who was still considered an odd shape to him, he supposed lingering on what sort of species they were wouldn’t help anything for either of them as he let his arms fall to his side. Lunch would be soon enough, but thankfully a very welcomed long termed guest was inside cooking instead of Gerold.

“Of course, I can try to help with your issue. How many do you have total to care for?” He himself didn’t have many dragons, only the two with varying personalities that often left him treating them a bit different.

“Gerold! Look at this rock I found while playing with the little ones!” Al called, running right over with excitement with his short arms and trail of smaller ones behind as Gerold reached out a hand to examine the gem, patting Al for his hard work. It pleased the almost too big other dragon whose tail was currently a weapon of mass destruction, swaying back and forth at high speeds. Thankfully nothing was behind the earth dragon as he was pleased and excited.

“Good job Al, go collect Mint for me. Dinner will be soon and he was laying in the sun last I left him.”

“Of course!” Running off, Gerold could only shake his head as the child like dragon, motioning for Liam to follow him.

“Let’s head inside as they play for a bit. You must be tired from your flight, so rest will be nice as I ask you more about the dragons. I may not be the best help, but hopefully I can be of some help.” He knew how to care for dragons, but a bond between rider and dragon was so much more... like his relationship as caretaker and adult for Alphonse, and the role of caretaker and occasionally begrudging servant to Mint. They seemed happy, and that was surely enough... right?
