Cecil pointed at the apple he put on the counter.
"I found this!" He exclaimed, sounding very proud of himself. "We can make a pie with it!"
"Oh, you're right," Zachary replied, picking up the apple. "Apple pie, yes?"

A dusting of flour covered the countertops. Zachary pushed a dollop of dough with a light touch, humming softly as he worked. Baking was like a second nature to him. Between etiquette lessons and posture lessons, he liked to take time off by doing a little baking. You could be both the prince and a pâtissier if you wanted to be.
Baking was a very good stress reliever too. After all, it was a lot of work being the first prince of the country! Zachary was so interested in the process that he didn't notice the door open and someone toddle in, until he noticed an apple placed with a soft thump on the counter.

"Hello!"
His younger brother, Cecil beamed up at him with his wide sunny grin.
"Hello, Cecil," he said, smiling softly. It was always good to see his little brother. "How have you been?"

Cecil pointed at the apple he put on the counter.
"I found this!" He exclaimed, sounding very proud of himself. "We can make a pie with it!"
"Oh, you're right," Zachary replied, picking up the apple. "Apple pie, yes?"
"Mm-hm!" Cecil nodded. "We can share it with Mommy and Daddy and Fenrir!"
"Of course." Zachary smiled again, putting the apple back on the counter. "Cecil, will you find some more apples for me? We'll need more than one to make an apple pie."
"A delicious apple pie!" The little boy's eyes lit up. He smiled again and nodded. "Yes! I will find lots of yummy yummy apples.... Where to find apples?"
"Well, where did you find the last apple?"
Cecil thought for a moment.

"Ah! I will ask Fenrir to help me! Like a quest to find apples!"

"Well, come back soon, Cecil." Zachary wished him well on his "quest". "I will need those apples soon!"
"To make a yummy yummy apple pie!"
"Yes, to make a tasty apple pie."

Cecil then left on a search for apples. He would be gone for a little while, Zachary guessed. He may as well finish laying the pastry out in a tin.
That was alright, he'd wait for him. Zachary loved his little brother! He always snuck him little sweet treats when their mother, Alice wasn't looking. Of course, Alice would happily indulge in the sweets too.

He was glad that she approved of his aspiration.

Alice and Alfonse wholeheartedly supported Zachary, which of course, surprised him initially. He wasn't quite expecting them to be so supportive at first. After all, people say it'd be difficult enough to be a prince. Oh well, it just made things easier. Alice approved, as long as she'd get to try some of his pastries too! Their father Alfonse only wanted Zachary to be happy. He was glad that both of them approved.

And of course Cecil would approve. Especially if it meant that he'd get some treats in the process!
Fenrir, I guess, was another problem.

Fenrir didn't seem to approve or disapprove. To be honest, that was fine with Zachary. Perhaps it wasn't pleasant of him, but he didn't particularly care what Fenrir thought. They didn't have the best relationship but the feeling was mutual. Neither of them really cared what the other person thought. (I guess.) His father, Hríd wasn't there like Alfonse was. I guess there was some resentment over that.

"I just can't stand that attention seeking br-"
"Hello again!"

Zachary immediately banished all bad thoughts from his mind and put on a smile as he turned to the door.
"Cecil, you're back!"
"I am!" Cecil said. "Fenrir is helping me bring the apples! We have lots and lots. We have... Uh..."
Fenrir held a few apples in his arms. Cecil pointed to each of them, counting out loud.
"Uh... Eight! Is that enough?"
"That's more than enough," Zachary replied, smiling. "Thank you so much, Cecil."
"Fenrir helped me too!" Cecil chattered. "He found the apples with me! We took them off a tree, well, Fenrir did because I couldn't reach."
He set the apples on the counter. Zachary murmured a "Thank you" and began chopping them up. Cecil was still chattering on about the apple adventure.
"... But then I dropped some, but he helped me pick them back up. Isn't Fenrir so cool?"
"Hmm."
"I am," Fenrir replied, nodding at Cecil. "I'm glad you think so."
"Mm-hm!" Cecil beamed. "When will the yummy pie be ready?"
"Half an hour, perhaps," Zachary told him. "It'll be a while."
"We should do something," Cecil said. "So we don't get bored waiting."
"And what do you propose we do?"

Cecil thought for a moment, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Hmm, we should tell Mommy and Daddy that we are baking them a gift! They would like it."
"Mother would really enjoy it, wouldn't she?" Zachary agreed.
"Mm-hm!" The little boy nodded. "What do you think, Fenrir?"
"Sounds like a cool idea." Fenrir nodded too.
"Yay! Let's go!"

And so, the three brothers found their parents while Cecil very excitedly told them about the, "Delicious yummy pie" that was baking. Of course, Alice was very interested. Especially if it was served with ice-cream on the side. (Now that would be delicious.)
Half an hour seemed to fly by as the family went back to the kitchen. Zachary rescued his pie from the oven and set it aside to cool. He served it with a flourish (and that promised side of ice-cream).
The shortcrust pastry was light and the apples were deliciously tangy. Just as expected!
"This is a really yummy pie!" Cecil exclaimed. "Mommy, Daddy, do you love it?"
"Oh, sweetheart, it's truly delicious!" Alice said, smiling at him. "Isn't it, Alfonse?"
"Oh yes, definitely!"
Zachary couldn't help but smile again.

"Ah, thank you."
"You'll be a great pâtissier, Zachary," Alice said warmly. "This is truly delicious!"
"It was my idea," Cecil added helpfully.
"Of course, sweetheart. A brilliant idea."
"It's good," Fenrir admitted, nodding.

And Zachary just nodded, turning away to serve another slice of pie. It was always lovely to eat with his family. He loved them as much as he loved baking.
