The Calm Before The Storm

The Storyteller

Waves crashed against the sides of the Wayfarer as she sailed through the rough sea. She was a research vessel commissioned by Icarus' Eye. Her sole purpose was to investigate a strange fysa storm seemingly locked in one spot in the middle of the ocean.

Aboard her decks, a small gathering of like minded individuals, all here for the same reason. To figure out what was going on way out here in the middle of nowhere and why it was happening.

Rain beat down on the wooden deck, streaming off of the Wayfarer's rails and pouring off of of the folded sails. The waves seemed to grow in intensity with every passing second, slamming up against the sides of the wooden vessel.

They were getting close. That was for sure.

Percy

Percy had situated himself in the main cabin. Currently, he was wondering what form of insanity drove him to come out on this hellish journey.

"Ouugh... gods... make the boat stop swaying so much..."

He was not used to sea travel and he did have a very weak stomach. All of this rocking around was not treating him well. All he could do was sit on this little booth, clinging to it with his wings while his hands held a bucket between his legs. Hopefully he wouldn't throw up again.

Orridai

Orridai laid on the floor between Percy's feet. He was a decently large daemon, barely fitting under the table that the booth was next to. He watched as people came and went, letting out a soft huff as he nestled his beak against his paws. He was well aware of his witch's discomfort, but there wasn't much he could do to comfort him. Other than the occasional nudge against Percy's leg with his beak.

Ryko

Ryko was stretched out across the booth that attached to Percy's. He had his arms folded behind his head and a hat covering most of his face, casually laying back against the semi-comfortable cushion beneath him. "Y'know I've got a lil' somethin' somethin' that could'a helped with your sickness." He casually commented, eyeing Percy from under the rim of his hat.

Percy

"Thanks.. but no thanks." Percy said, followed by a long exhale. "I'd probably throw it back up before it could take affect." He lifted his head, squinting around the cabin at the other folk who had opted to join in on this mission. "Lohrian?.."

Vesper

Vesper sat in his own little pocket within the Cabin, Looking down at the book he was reading, Illuminated by a little fysa charged book light that clipped to the cover of it. His eyes flicked up at the little leyr who spoke, exhaling loudly through his nose as he glanced back down to his book. He kept his things tucked firmly beneath his cot, his insectoid tail always draped in front of his bad, threatening to pinch any nosey fingers.

Ruin

Ruin was up on deck, near the prow. The rain battered his face as he grinned into the storm, tail lashing as his claws dug into the deck, laughing gleefully at the torrent that battered the ship.

"Ah, this is great! Haha, Come, ye blighted storm, show us yer secrets" He roars, seemingly energized by the raging storm.

Balamel

Balamel didn't seem to mind the rain, or the movement of the ship -- though it was unlikely he was even aware of it, at present. The ptheran had promptly found the darkest corner of the cabin to settle himself in once they'd set out, aiming to be as far away from the summer sun as possible. He'd managed to wedge himself into a spot so he wouldn't be shifted as much by the waves, tail flicking where it curled to rest near his head -- currently resting across folded arms ending in cruel-looking talons. It seemed he never got rid of those...

The occasional snore or growl left him as he dreamed, but he'd barely said two words since boarding otherwise.

Lohrian

Lohrian was not too far off from where Percival sat, leaned up against the window of the cabin. His last excursion out on the open ocean had nearly led to his untimely demise. Fortunately, you get your sea legs fairly quick after vomiting up enough seawater to house a small creature. He had been lost in thought, watching the storm rage around the ship.

"Hm?" He asked, suddenly taken out of his thoughts as he heard Percival speak. His eyes soon found the colorful Leyr, moving closer to sit next to him. He'd elected to ignore the dramatic exhale of the Councilman in the corner for the time being. "Something on your mind? Or, er... stomach?"

Umbra

Having elected to poke his head topside and ensure that nobody unnecessarily tumbled off the ship, Umbra had taken to leaning against the mast. Every now and again the wind would blow and give him a healthy dose of rainwater slapping him in the eyes, but a storm was nothing he couldn't handle.

He let out an amused puff of air through his nose as he watched the Immithean Sentinel roar his heart out against the storm. He didn't blame him one bit. He'd never had a personal interaction with him, but through the grapevine of work associates, he'd come to learn of Ruin's achievements.

Turning his own eyes towards the bow, he strained to see whether or not the ship would befall land at anytime soon. However, with the way the storm was pouring, he strongly doubted he'd be able to see much.

Roan

A ways behind the Wayfarer, hidden in the mist and spray, was a smaller ship, silently stalking them. Roan stood at the boat's helm, taking care not to get too close and come into the larger ship's range of sight, should anyone be looking behind. The rrex was decked in his usual armor and helmet, with his large axe propped up beside him.

He was following his usual method of letting other, more foolish sorts investigate ahead of him, and then relieving them of whatever valuables they find afterwards. It was a waiting game he was familiar with.

Rheloran

Rheloran had learned the rrex's methods -- and his dislike of questioning -- rather quickly. He sat perched on Roan's shoulder, focus eye keeping watch behind them, magisensitive eyes blinking occasionally against the rain in an alternating pattern that always kept at least one pair open. If nothing else, he was a half-decent lookout. He kept his silence, eyes on the storm around them.

Ryko

"Whatever was on his stomach isn't any longer." Ryko responded to Lohrian's question with an amused chuckle. He reached up and lifted his hat off of his face, electing to just hold it for the time being. "Sea sickness is a real bummer, yeah? Should'a tried to get your sea legs before settin' off on a mission like this where your sailin' straight into a fuckin' hurricane."

Percy

"Thank you for your input, Ryko.." Percy sighed, giving Ryko a look that argued the opposite.

Ryko

"Anytime~" The ptheran merc crooned in response. He sat up and eventually stepped out of the booth. "I'll let you two discuss your plans for this venture in private." He placed his hat back on his head before wandering over towards one of the small windows on the cabin. He looked out across the dark, evening landscape. The rough waves spilling over the sides of the ship were a cause for concern if they got any higher. But for now... they were manageable.

Balamel

A particularly rough wave jostled Balam enough to finally wake him, but it seemed destined to be short-lived -- the ptheran had to stretch each limb in turn to avoid smacking someone with a stray wing or claw, but once that was done he was content to find a more comfortable position and go back to dozing.

At least until he spotted someone nearby. A ridge of fur raised along his spine as he cast a wary glance upward, sizing up... another ptheran? Confusion and caution gave way to curiosity after a moment and he pushed himself to a seated position, craning his neck a bit to follow their gaze and look out the window.

Well, they were certainly in the thick of it now.

Percy

Percy watched the merc go before he looked up at Lohrian. The tired leyr forced a smile, even though he was feeling anything but happy. "Hey, yeah.. just feeling a bit sick is all." He sighed softly, small smile ever present. "I wanted to make sure that you hadn't jumped overboard again."

Vesper

At the sound of Percy fretting over Lohrian's wellbeing, the tall human let out a soft chuckle, looking over the top of his book to pierce Lohrian with his gaze.

"Be a shame if he ended up in the ocean, huh?" He quips, smirking.

Lohrian

Lohrian made a noise in the back of his throat of mild exasperation. "I didn't fall in. There were a number of circumstances surrounding that." He protested. His eyes flicked up to meet Vesper's at the Councilman's quip. "I've had enough seawater in my lungs for one lifetime." His words were directed towards Percival, but it was clear he was warning the Human not to try anything.

His eyes returned back to Percy, softening as he looked at the seasick Leyr. "Do you want to lay down? You look even more exhausted than usual." He reached a hand up and lightly ruffled the back of Percy's colorful hair. "We've still got a ways to go, so you should get all the rest you can."

Percy

"Well, as long as you don't plan on getting back in the ocean any time soon, we'll be good." Percy rubbed his thumbs against the side of the bucket as he looked over towards where Vesper was sitting. He knew Lohrian had beef with his... whatever relation they had, but he hoped it wouldn't conflict with their mission.

"Laying down sounds nice right about now." Percy replied with a weak laugh. "As long as you don't mind being my pillow." The colorful leyr smiled up at Lohrian before he went ahead and shifted positions so he could lay down. He rested his head in Lohrian's lap, laying on his back and struggling to get his wings situated for a moment.

Orridai

Orridai lifted his head as Percy shifted positions, watching him cautiously. The daemon leaned in and settled the underside of his jaw across Percy's abdomen. He'd rest his head here for now.

His action earned an affectionate pat from the sea-sick leyr and an affectionately half-whispered 'good boy'. Orridai allowed his eyelids to droop sleepily, as he watched Percy for a brief moment before his gaze shifted up to focus on Lohrian instead.

Vesper

Vesper merely chuckles again, going back to his reading. Lohrians veiled threat meant nothing to him. The rocking of the ship was most irritating though... he hated travel. Alas, it was rare for him to have the chance to strike out on an adventure with Umbra nowadays.

Lohrian

Lohrian slid his hand into the colorful Leyr's hair proper, letting Percy have all the time he needed to get some semblance of comfort. He extended one of his wings outward to shield Percy, acting more as a feathery blanket for him than anything else currently. "Not a bit." He softly replied.

Lohrian wasnt entirely sure how to feel about Orridai. At least, from what he understood in his experience with Daemons. He was more used to the intelligence level of Acacius, or the general nonchalance of his own young daemon, Selehiri. Orridai was only a few months old and yet he seemed to have similar intelligence to some of the more sentient Daemons he'd met - like his mother's other Daemon, Zhura. Lohrian wanted to figure out more about Daemons, but... one step had to be accomplished at a time. He offered Orridai a gentle smile before eventually turning to look back out the window.

The Storyteller

Wind rushes across the deck. Rain pelts those standing outside of the cabin, the fysa tainted rain drops stinging the skin. The storm was growing in power as the ship sailed onward. It seemed like something might be out there in the darkness... but it was too hard to see over the massive waves and through the intense down pour of the storm.

Ruin

Oblivious to any potential threat beyond the storm itself, his cyan hair whips around his face as he tilts his head up to the storm, his white Aegis uniform, the colours of Immitheus, tinted with the poisonous rain. His cyan eyes blaze as he welcomes the sting upon him, matching the poison that beats inside his chest.

He glances over his shoulder to Umbra, twitching one of his long ears as he grins toothily, exposing his large stone grey fangs.

"Enjoying the weather?" He shouts above the din, sounding more lively than he has in years.

Umbra

Umbra hadn't been expecting to be addressed, though how could he ignore such a lively sounding question. "It's definitely different!" He called back, laughing softly as he did so. He moved his body slightly so Ruin could converse with him better, rather than having to yell back and forth through the ratlines. "Don't really get much of this inland, 'cept for a couple weeks out of the year, yeah?" He tilted his head in the direction of Ruin's waterlogged clothes. "Hope you didn't need to worry about keeping that unstained." He joked.

Ruin

Ruin laughed, moving over towards Umbra, so he could lean an arm against the mast above the smaller humans head. He grinned down at the other, looking pleased in this weather.
"Aye! We dinnae get much o this no more, s'mostly fog, and regular rain. My Uniforms treated, so it wont stain permanently. D'ye think we'll find anything out here? Beautiful storm...." He Exclaims happily, eyes twinkling with mirth as his claws dig into the deck again to gain purchase amidst the careening water.

Umbra

Umbra blinked a little as the water that soaked Ruin's sleeve dripped down onto his head. Oh well. What was a little more water going to do? "Probably. It may not necessarily be anything of value, but i'm sure that we'll find something. Worst case scenario, I suppose we stumble across a small little outcrop that's just so happened to have a wonky weather pattern. I can't quantify a best case scenario for you, though."

He had to look up at Ruin, the distance between the two prior had masked Ruin's true height. Umbra was finding that he was having to physically look up at a number of people he was working with as of late.
