“You know, we could just call the whole thing off.”

Louise stood at the doorway of the bed room, nervously picking at the stitches around her wrist. It was a bad habit and had more then once lead to her hands falling off, but she couldn’t stop herself. Whenever she got nervous or anxious, she would start absently picking at her stitching or twist the button on her bow. She had learned at a very young age how to get good with a sewing needle because of it.

“I can just give Day a call and tell him we can’t make it and we just… stay here.”

Allyn looked at her through the mirror. He had been putting on his makeup. Even off set, he enjoyed to wear eyeliner and mascara, saying that it complemented his eye shape. He had a gentle but slightly annoyed look in his eyes, as if they hadn’t just had this conversation every day since he had agreed to go to Day’s Fall Feast. None of them had family to go to or, in Louise’s and Day’s case, they didn’t want to go to see them. So, every year Day and Nabi would throw a huge party celebrating friendship and the season. Every year, Louise would agree to go. Every year, she would call ten minuets before the party started and would nervously explain why they couldn’t go this year.

Allyn set down his eyeliner and stood up, his tail twitching slightly behind him as he walked towards his fiancé. He reached out to gently run his fingers through the curly fur of her ears, making her whimper ever so slightly as she looked up at him, wrapping her fingers around her wrist to get herself to stop fidgeting.

“I know you’re scared, love.” He said, his deep voice soothing over her anxieties just as he hands did to her ears. “You’re scared and nervous, and that’s okay. I’m going to be right there with you and we know everyone that’s going to be there.” He slowly wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in close to his bare chest. She breathed in his sweet scent, slowly leaning against his shoulder. Allyn smelled like Halloween night in the best way possible. “Come here.” He hummed, pulling away as he led her to sit at the vanity where he had just been. He ran his fingers through her yarn hair, untangling it very gently. With every pull, she slowly started to feel her anxiety start to wash away. Draining out through his fingers as she felt his long nails lightly scratch her back.

“How long has it been since you’ve seen your brother? I mean… really seen him?”
“I….” she furrowed her eyebrows, watching the man through the mirror. How long had it been since she had seen Day?
“A few months?” She muttered, looking down just a little as she thought. No… that was wrong…. “Almost a year.” She muttered, starting to pick at her stitching again.

“I’m not trying to make you feel bad, love.” He whispered, pulling her hair away from her neck, gently leaning down to kiss the back of her neck. “But I know that Day would really love to see his sister again.” He hummed as he slowly started to pull her hair into two sections. He started to braid one side, as he spoke, his gaze and touch as gentle as his voice.

“He really misses you, love. And I know that you miss him because of the way you talk to him on the phone. Don’t you think it would be nice to see him? And all the others?” he asked, picking up one of her many hair ties off of the vanity. It was true, it had been a very long time since she had seen well… anyone outside of work and Allyn. She didn’t usually like to go out. Between being cornered by random fans and haters, there were just so many things in the world that made her stitches start to itch. Bright lights, loud sounds… What if she was out with out a jacket and it started to rain? Or if she was at a restaurant and the waiter spilled a hot drink on her and stained her fur? Or if she tripped and fell and one of her legs ripped off? She whimpered softly, reaching up to cover her eyes, pressing the buttons against her palms. It didn’t hurt to touch them; she couldn’t feel them at all honestly.

“Deep breath, Louise.” Allyn whispered in her ear, making her pause and try to breathe deeply. She counted backwards from ten to one, back to ten, and then back to one again. Slowly she pulled her hands away from her eyes and looked at him through the mirror, barley even seeing the braids that he pushed over her shoulders. All she saw were his kind yellow eyes and the gentle smile on his face.

“It’s going to be okay, love.” He whispered, wrapping his arms around her shoulders as he leaned over and kissed the top of her head. “I’m going to be right there with you, okay?”

She looked at him for a long time before she nodded just a little, taking another shaking breath. He was right. Of course he was right, Allyn was always right. He was going to be there with her and it wasn’t like she didn’t know and love everyone who was going to be at this party. That and she really did miss her brother. They used to spend every holiday together before she got too scared to leave the house. She couldn’t remember when that was anymore, time having blurred together long ago. She looked at the man again through the mirror before she looked at her own reflection. She gently reached up and touched the sparkling rose gold bows he had put at the end of her braids, tracing the edges with the tips of her fingers.

“Can… Can you pick out something for me… to wear?” she asked, trying to not stammer. She was nervous, scared, and anxiety bubbled deep inside her stomach but… she could do this. She could do one party. Allyn smiled softly, kissing the top of her head again.

“Of course love.” He said softly, moving towards the closet. “Are you feeling like pants or a skirt?”

“It… It doesn’t matter.” She said softly, still gently touching the bow. “You pick.”

Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!” Day ran around the house, making sure that everything was where it was meant to be. He left a trail of purple and green glitter behind him that dissolved before it even hit the ground. His butterflies were fluttering everywhere, landing on various surfaces as they panicked with him. The party was going to start in half an hour and people were going to start showing up in ten. Everything felt like it was in total chaos and nothing was right! He felt panic starting to overwhelm him before he was pulled down onto his large plush couch.

“Darling,” Nabi hummed, looking at his friend. The much calmer of the two had floated around the house all day preparing things with Day and was honestly the only reason he hadn’t lost his head completely. “You’re going to hurt yourself if you don’t stop.” He cooed, reaching out to tap the other’s nose very gently before caressing his cheek. “Take a moment to center yourself again, darling.”

“But how am I supposed to do anything when everything is so… so…..” he looked around with flustered eyes, his butterflies fluttering on his ears quietly. He let out a long whine before he nearly threw himself on Nabi. “So WRONG!”

Nabi sighed softly, patting Day’s back gently. “Darling… Everything is fine. I promise. I should know.” He smirked a little, raising an eyebrow. “I put it together myself.”

Day opened his mouth to say something when there was a knock at the door that nearly made him jump out of his skin. “OH NO!” he gasped, shooting up, nearly knocking the other man off of the couch. “SOMEONE’S ALREADY HERE! I’M NOT READY!”

“Day… Darling. I love you dearly, but stop yelling.” Nabi sighed, standing up. He ran his hands over the front of his cream-colored turtle neck, shaking his head just a little. He pushed the other back onto the couch, giving him a look that read strict murder.

Center.”

Day whined as his tail curled around his waist and he reached up to grip to his ears, breathing so fast that he felt like he was hyperventilating. Oh god, oh god, oh GOD what was he supposed to DOOOOOOO. He heard the front door open, the faint sounds of someone talking and footsteps.

“Day?” A soft voice came from the doorway that made his heart nearly stop. He turned in the couch and looked to see his sister standing there. She looked absolutely stunning, wearing a knee length dark orange skirt and a black off the shoulder top. She had a hand on the door frame, the other gripping to the charm of her necklace.

“Wheeze?” He whispered as he slowly stood, almost not believing his eyes. “Wheeze, I….” he stared at her for a long time before he nearly threw himself at his older sister, gripping tightly to her and he buried his face in her neck. She squeaked in response, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and she held onto him like if she let go she was going to topple right over.

“God, Louise. You have no idea how happy I am to see you!” he half sobbed, snuggling his face into her neck before he kissed her cheek. “I missed you so much.”

“I… I missed you too, Day.” She whispered back, giving him a gentle smile before she pulled away just a little to give him an almost shy look, her eyebrows furrowed. “Is there… anything I can… I can do to help set up?”

“No, darling.” Nabi hummed, walking past them towards the kitchen, a trail of orange glitter floating behind the small man. He looked over his shoulder with a soft smile. “You two take your time to catch up, I’ll get the cider.”

“Is it spiked?” Allyn asked, following after him, a grin on his face.

“Ahhh… no?” Nabi blinked a few times, looking a little taken aback.

“Want it to be?” The demon responded, grin widening.

Louise couldn’t help but laugh, Day feeling a weight lift off of his shoulders and he laughed with her, pressing his cheek against hers. Suddenly, for the first time in years, the party felt like it was perfect.
