It is not Mermay anymore, but the moment I saw these mermaid poses, I knew I wanted to paint one of them for exercise :D So last night I finally managed to do that.

Colour-wise I wanted to do something inspired by Yuming Li, because their delicate balance of colours is so incredibly fascinating, and I want to understand it.

Support for Palestine should be unconditional by the way. Stop looking for the ways they’re just like you (ex: gay, trans, neurodivergent, etc) and support them for the sole reason that theyre literally facing a genocide right now. This is what solidarity is.

A screenshot of an Instagram post by the financialtimes account. It pictures a crying Palestinian man, middle aged or older, holding a shrouded child against his face. There is one man visible on the right side, holding his hand which is carrying the child, and another wrapped around his shoulder. Others are around them, reaching out to him. The text overlayed reads: Entire generations of families in Gaza are being wiped out and it's ravaging the fabric of their society.ALT
A bar chart depicting the death toll of Palestinians in Ghazzah, starting October 8th, and ending in December 10th, of 2023. The source is labeled as UNOCHA, the Gaza Health Ministry, through Al Jazeera. The title above reads: the death toll in Gaza has reached 18205, including more than 7000 children. The subtext reads: cumulative number of deaths by day. The bars in the graph are about evenly split between dark blue and light blue. The legend of the graph indicates that light blue is for adults and dark blue is for children. The graph also marks the day in mid November that the ministry collapsed and was unable to keep track. The number of Palestinians killed by Israeli bombardment since that day has doubled.ALT
A frequency bar graph, which shows the air strike frequency on Ghazzah from 2016 to 2023. The bars indicate a very evident intensity in the bombings of 2023, overshadowing all the previous ones. It indicates that Israel has been bombing Ghazzah at a consistent frequency of at least 40 bombs per day, sometimes reaching nearly 60. The source is ACLED. Strikes include those categorized as shelling / artillery / missile attacks and air / drone strike events.ALT
A graph showing the displacement of Palestinians in Ghazzah starting October 8th until December 10th, in 2023. It markes the date that Israel ordered mass evacuations, somewhere in mid-October. It shows that 85% of Plaestinians in Ghazzah are now displaced.ALT
An Instagram screenshot of the caption on the financialtimes post reads: Israel's intense bombardment has wiped out multiple generations of many Palestinian families. Extended families traditionally live together in mutli-storey buildings, and periods of war mean more relatives move in together for safety. But the result has meant hundreds of multi-generational families suffering the same fate - being wiped out in single or multiple strikes. Medical experts warn that such widespread loss will have long-term psychological impact on surviving Gazans. A teenager now living in Gaza has survived five periods of major bombardment: in 2008, 2012, 2014, 2021, and now 2023. Campaign group Amnesty International documented in detailed five cases or air strikes wiping out entire families, saying the attacks should be investigated as potential war crimes. Tap the link in our bio to read how war is ravaging the fabric of Gaza. Photo by: Reuters.ALT

The article in question is paywalled, so here’s another article by the Irish times about the ravaging of families, focused on the children.
