I ain’t dead, just kinda stopped using tumblr

So I’m going to brush off this blog to upload art outside of twitter (not that I post much art there anyway)
But tumblr is a bit better for image hosting so I may as well.
Since ArtFight is happening I’m getting plenty of long overdue practice in, so if you want free art i plan to revenge every attack I receive and make a few attacks on top of that
Hopefully I can get some decent examples made and maybe set up a little art shop once artfight is over.

I’ll give you one guess as to what my twitter is (it’s linked on both those pages too)

We’re all guilty of it, c’mon. Surely FR comes up in regular life, like describing a car to be “crimson iridescent” or the tree you’re looking at to be “chartreuse” or that rock over there happens to be “latte” or “hickory” coloured. Outsiders listening in on us must think we’re all established artists or colour snobs lmao

Slavic Cossack dancing known as Hopak

Warning: Do not try this at home unless you were born with super Slavic knee strength

Ahahah it’s not just knee strength you need, friend. It’s thighs, ass, ankles, calves, you need everything from your waist down to be horrifyingly fit and toned for this.

Also core strength. So include the waist. Everything from the nipples down.

Don’t forget absurd back flexibility

“Ballet is a really hard dance to master.”

Slavic dancing: “Hold my beer.”

My thighs are burning just watching.

Spellwrought Shardhide is pink chalcedony corruption that happens on non-Arcane dragons. The Arcane festival apparel is actually not for Arcane dragons but for dragons of other elements being corrupted by Arcane magic. Exhibit A:

Spellwrought Shardhide and pink chalcedony have fairly similar colouring, growth formation and geographical location, both being from Starfall Isles. The flavour text for pink chalcedony suggests that it effects non-Arcane dragons in the form of sickness. Exhibit B:

What kind of illness the dragons succumb to is up for debate. It probably depends on the dragon however due to it’s nature to grow, a physical symptom of the illness is most likely pink chalcedony forming mutations on the dragon itself.  The flavour text for Spellwrought Shardhide suggest just that:

In conclusion: Spellwrought Shardhide is Arcane energy corruption in the form of pink chalcedony that occurs on non-Arcane dragons due to prolonged exposure.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I see that and raise you this:

Pink chalcedony is made from granite after prolonged exposure to arcane energy. We note that the same arcane energy does not have this effect on the remaining soil of the isles.

Dragons are not made of granite and therefore would not be able to crystalize in the same way. Instead, the shard hide is made up of a granite cape which draws the unwanted magical energy from the body and crystalizes it. It’s not a symptom it’s a treatment.

I see that and raise you this further:

Look at where the shardhide is on the dragons

Horns, tails, fins, manes, elbows, parts of the body that’d have collections of dead skin/scale cells/bone very close to the surface in high concentration.  Shardhide is advanced, wild, and highly uncontrollable Gembond; once a part of the dragon is dead and exposed to arcane radiation, it explodes into spires and spikes, and spreads internally (since as more and more dead stuff gets covered in spikes, it injures the dragon farther and… yeah.)

Arcane is full of shambling, clattering, crystal zombies writing in pain and you can’t change my mind.  (Beware the sound of windchimes in an empty forest)

Okay but, in defense of my own, those are the areas which would need the most protection as well. Head and heart and then the end of the tail because it’s an extremity and would experience adverse effects more severely and more quickly.

All presented theories are good tho.

A more realistic approach to the map of Sornieth

Here we go! I’ve been working on this with @antimoany and @errantmoggy (and some input from everyone in the FR IRC) for the last week or so. I proudly present to you: Sornieth, with less Escher and more mountains!

Description: An attempt at making a more realistic map of Sornieth. Assuming a planet with similar temperatures as Earth, 1.5x the size. Some regions were moved around to better match their climate, mountains were added/reshaped to better follow the climate, etc.

This map is free for use! The link includes the .mdp and .psd files for a reason. I encourage people to modify them to their liking, add the location of their clan (and allies?) to it, draw train or trade routes on it, anything. I only ask that you link back to either this post or the sta.sh link if you use it.

Some general notes:

  • The flight regions names are not on the map because of space constrains. I think they should be relatively evident, though.
  • Some regions have subregions that are also not named. More on this under the cut.
  • Fire’s landscape is ever-changing. The lakes pictured are permanent lava lakes, but there are also constantly shifting rivers and craters that are not depicted, especially in the Molten Scar.
  • Cloudsong is not depicted because it is not a stationary landmark.
  • Similarly, Arcane has a few floating islands which are not depicted.

More design notes under the cut.

my little earth science heart is so happy right now
