Saw this frame on a different reblog by @thatssroughbuddy but why does it look like Iroh is using his phone to take a photo of his nephew at a landmark

"Uncle, make sure you get that glowy light in the picture and send it to my dad to let him know I'm about to capture the Avatar!"

This was so cute I had to draw it

image

and of course Iroh is doing what-

!!!!!!

Iroh posts it on social media with some caption like "look at my beautiful nephew" and Zhao comments like "is that the Avatar in the background?"

And Iroh responds, "no, it's the northern lights."

This is insanely funny to me and now:

I do have to hand it to James Somerton I assumed his next logical career choice would be a right wing heel turn grift after he was exposed in stealing the work of queer creators but he somehow went in an even more illogical baffling direction.

Faking his suicide, changing his alt and posting hole under a different account while people thought he was dead, attempting to start a new tiktok under a different name with an AI altered version of himself, and keeping on doing the same shit.

All of this while while bashing Hbomberguy and using the same defenses that was destroyed in hbomb’s three hour long video. Like the work he puts in to not do work is astounding

take figures out of their boxes btw. sew patches on your favorite jacket. go to bed with your favorite plushes. wear the pants you usually save for special occasions. draw something cool on your wall. put a sticker on your laptop. dye your hair and pierce your lips. glass is meant to break, metal is meant to rust. items are meant to be used. that's how the world knows that somebody loved them.

When my aunt died of covid, we had to clean out a lot of stuff that she was saving. Foods she was going to try, she was a great chef, spices she'd never opened or only used sparingly, lotions and bath things she hadn't used. After she died I started making a point of using things up: the good vanilla that has to be imported, that we finally found more of, we'd used barely an ounce before she passed away. Even though we love it. I just got my family new bottles of it for Christmas because we used one up. We enjoyed that happiness. Sometimes I still get the impulse to wait for something special, or awful, to save nice things for celebration or comfort. The phrase that always echoes in my mind is "use the good vanilla". And I have been (burning the candles, squirting the body wash, dissolving the bath bombs, putting the saffron in things). And it's been great. Use the good vanilla.

helen “trans people are perpetuating gender steriotypes” joyce is now upset that the scientific american is writing about how women were hunters too back in the day, not just mothers and caretakers. feminist win!

Reading the article I see why TERFs are mad about it; it explicitly makes the distinction between gender as a social entity and sex as a biological category, and defines biological sex having multiple factors, both of which are anathema to TERF philosophy.

It also includes these fascinating paragraphs about the role of estrogen in different types of physical activity, directly debunking the widespread notion that estrogen is the weak human's hormone and only does weak human things:

Given the fitness world's persistent touting of the hormone testosterone for athletic success, you'd be forgiven for not knowing that estrogen, which females typically produce more of than males, plays an incredibly important role in athletic performance… The estrogen receptor—the protein that estrogen binds to in order to do its work—is deeply ancient. Joseph Thornton of the University of Chicago and his colleagues have estimated that it is around 1.2 billion to 600 million years old—roughly twice as old as the testosterone receptor. In addition to helping regulate the reproductive system, estrogen influences fine-motor control and memory, enhances the growth and development of neurons, and helps to prevent hardening of the arteries.

Important for the purposes of this discussion, estrogen also improves fat metabolism. During exercise, estrogen seems to encourage the body to use stored fat for energy before stored carbohydrates. Fat contains more calories per gram than carbohydrates do, so it burns more slowly, which can delay fatigue during endurance activity. Not only does estrogen encourage fat burning, but it also promotes greater fat storage within muscles… which makes that fat's energy more readily available. Adiponectin, another hormone that is typically present in higher amounts in females than in males, further enhances fat metabolism while sparing carbohydrates for future use, and it protects muscle from breakdown. Anne Friedlander of Stanford University and her colleagues found that females use as much as 70 percent more fat for energy during exercise than males.

Estrogen's ability to increase fat metabolism and regulate the body's response to the hormone insulin can help prevent muscle breakdown during intense exercise. Furthermore, estrogen appears to have a stabilizing effect on cell membranes that might otherwise rupture from acute stress brought on by heat and exercise. Ruptured cells release enzymes called creatine kinases, which can damage tissues… Linda Lamont of the University of Rhode Island and her colleagues, as well as Michael Riddell of York University in Canada and his colleagues, found that females experienced less muscle breakdown than males after the same bouts of exercise. Tellingly, in a separate study, Mazen J. Hamadeh of York University and his colleagues found that males supplemented with estrogen suffered less muscle breakdown during cycling than those who didn't receive estrogen supplements.

The article also talks about sexual dimorphism in different species, concluding that "Modern humans have low sexual dimorphism compared with the other great apes," and that overemphasis on averages obscures the wide dispersal of individual traits, which is what I keep saying.

I think the "furry hate is just lgbtphobia" argument is incomplete because ableism is like. Super super key. Like with most "cringe" content, most furry hate revolves around catching people breaking social norms and mocking them as subhuman for it. Even heterosexual furries are mocked ruthlessly if they present their sexuality in an "autistic" way, which they very often do. Developmentally disabled furries are most often mocked and most at risk of being exploited by outsiders who pretend to be acting in good faith. That said, the reason furries are such a beloved target of mockery is definitely the intersection of ableism, queerphobia, and anti-kink ideology. An autistic trans woman who posts nsfw furry art is at huge risk, and we can see examples of that in practice across the internet.

Looking at the current bullshit with anthpo you can tell some of the people he included in the video as interviewees are disabled people who didn't pick up that he might be mocking them/didn't know how to express their boundaries at being asked weird sexual questions by a stranger on camera

as a black genderfucked lesbian who is american, watching white american queers argue over stuff sometimes feels so.......like. hollow. or shallow. in a way. i dont know how to explain it. like it just feels like "lol. lmao even" because yes i GUESS these are valid concerns but you guys................can we focus on why you guys never include black people, or almost any nonwhite folks in your little rants that border on tantrums. i mean EYEEEEE know why but do YOUUU know why? i dont know. it just makes it hard to navigate because they're fighting battles i would never think to pick up simply because its like okay yes thats a problem but there is a giant tuna sitting on the grill rn i am not worried about anchovies

EXACTLY. It’s so exhausting being black and trans and trying to exist in trans spaces. White trans people never consider trans people of color when they’re talking about the community as a whole it’s so frustrating. Trying to find things that were useful to me as a younger trans person was pretty much impossible and sorta still is :’) Don’t even get me started on all the “trans stereotypes” that only ever include white people. I have never once related to any of that shit.

I truly wish it was easier for trans people or color to take up space in this community.

In the spirit talking about struggles of POC trans issues that are ignored the in the greater trans community we really need to have a discussion about how dangerous passing as a man can be for some trans men.

I’m mixed but I have darker skin and in an Afro. I’m often read as a light skinned black person especially by law enforcement. When I first came out as possibly trans to my dad one of his first worries was the way I would be treated if I passed.

The idea that passing as a man is nothing but safe for trans mascs isn’t true and is an incredibly white centered view of gender and privilege.
