While growing up, Kenzou found himself having to protect Yuuya from the other kids in school, partly due to pressure from their parents. This led him to taking some action behind Yuuya’s back in order to ensure they wouldn’t bother him again. Though they became quite close throughout the years and continued to share a room, secrets were another thing…
Kenzou had a passion for storytelling from a young age, but grew more and more self conscious about his own abilities as he grew older, becoming hesitant to show his work to anyone other than Yuuya. He dropped out of university and tried to concentrate his efforts on novel writing.
When Yuuya started working at Anne's Garden, he began to try and watch over him by visiting in various poor disguises - until Ritsu convinced him he was being too much.

From then on, several incidents happened between Yuuya and Kenzou, forming cracks in their relationship - with Kenzou trying to get Yuuya to quit working with Kinjishi and Yuuya refusing.
In E11, Kenzou got the impression that mystics were no big whoop after all, and agreed to run away from home with Ritsuji. With some awkward chance encounters in between, Kenzou and Yuuya haven't talked to each other at all since the end of E13.
