I think ironically the discourse that trans people are “born this way” and my earnest assumption that I wasn't was the biggest impediment to me transitioning. if someone had just told me trans people choose to not be the gender they were assigned at birth and that this assignment was inherently coercive and abstract in nature instead of trying to defend the idea that their brains were inherently different (whatever the merits of that) it would've been a lot simpler to figure that shit out

As it is Passover again, it is time for the annual debate as to whether the frog plague, which thanks to a quirk in the Hebrew, is written as a plague of frog, singular, rather than the plural, plague of frogs, was in fact, as generally imagined, a plague of many frogs, or instead a singular giant Kaiju frog. This is an ancient and venerable argument that actually goes back to the Talmud because this is what the Jewish people are. If we can't argue for fun about this sort of thing, what are we even doing.

In that spirit, I would like to submit a third possibility, which is that in fact it was one perfectly normal sized frog, who was absolutely acing Untitled Frog Game: Ancient Egypt Edition. One particularly obnoxious frog, who through sheer hard work, managed to plague all of Egypt.

THOUGHT EXPIRIMENT for creators considering ai art: when starting out, i had to make my own covers in specific way which now IMMEDIATELY evokes 'tingle' identity. would my books have taken off if covers were just ai art that 'looked better'? OF COURSE NOT buds wouldve scrolled on

SO MUCH of artistry (but also branding and self promotion) is creating a visual identity. dont make your identity 'generalized slop'

The vegan to ecofascist pipeline

Actually I'm going to expand on the steps of the pipeline.

It starts with:

"I want to do something to better the environment". A noble pursuit.

Then, "Large scale animal agriculture is bad for the environment". Accurate statement.

Then, "Therefore, I am going to stop consuming all animal products and biproducts." A lofty goal, but still reasonable. It's not something that's for everyone, but if that's what you want to do to do your part, more power to you.

Then, "If I can do it, so can you." Inaccurate. The human body is suited ideally for an omnivorous lifestyle. While the human body is very adaptable, its adaptability varies from person to person, and not everyone is able to subsist off of a vegan lifestyle.

Then, "People who don't follow my lifestyle are maliciously contributing to climate change." We're going into dangerous 'us vs. them' territory now. Now everyone who consumes animal products and biproducts even utilyzes large-scale animal agriculture, and there are myriad of reasons for someone to not be vegan. Personal lifestyle choices are also a distraction from the larger issue at hand, which is that corporations contribute the most to climate change, and blaming yourself and other individuals is a distraction.

Then, "Human beings are responsible for climate change. Humans are inherently destructive." False. Corporations and industrialization is responsible for climate change. Humans are inherently neutral, and for the most part are actually good.

Then, "If there were less people on this Earth, we would have less climate change and pollution." And there we are. At the ecofascism finish line.

Not every vegan ends up at the ecofascist finish line. Many vegans stay comfortably on the third rung of the ladder, focusing on their own personal boundaries and lifestyle choices. However, as soon as you dip your toes into the "if I can do it, so can you" mentality, that's when the ball begins rolling down the slippery slope of ecofascism.

As soon as you begin forcing your lifestyle onto other people, that's when it becomes dangerous.

I've seen several sites mention this, it's real.

Do not make the MISTAKE of thinking you need to put your side forward. The Guardian is transphobic as fuck, and will twist your words. DO NOT ENGAGE.

By the way, this is in the aftermath of the Cass Report, and the goal will be to make Trans DIY something that needs to be regulated or stamped out. DO NOT ENGAGE.

[Image Description: A 4chan post titled, in all caps: "Urgent - UK anons - Important". The rest reads: The Guardian are prepping a story on DIY HRT and are looking to interview trans people for it. They are particularly snooping around for under-18s on DIY to lure into interviewing. Needless to say, DO NOT ENGAGE. You all know that here but we need to spread this warning (and why) to every social circle, support group, org etc. in the country. This news needs to be endemic across the UK trans community. We cannot let this become a thing, coming straight after Cass DIY entering the national conversation will become something they won't let go of like they have done previous times. If they get even one trans person to take part, especially a teen, it becomes a big enough story to hit the headlines and be taken the requisite notice of. Drop what you're doing and spread this warning to every trans person or organiser you know, no matter how libshit or cringe, NOW. We can't have some gullible patsy spill the details on e.g. homebrew to the press. Also, order raws NOW. End ID]

Okay, so: there's a local restaurant whose online ordering process involves various selecting various sauces to be included with one's order – so many units of teriyaki sauce, so many units of hot sauce, so may units of peanut sauce, and so forth.

The idea is supposed to be that you can select any combination of sauces you want, as long as it adds up to no more than four units. However, what the app actually required is that you select exactly four units of sauces; it wouldn't let you submit the ordering form if the total wasn't exactly four.

Just today I discovered that they seem to have fixed it... not by correcting the errant validation rule, but by adding a "no sauce" option, which counts toward the required total of four.

Thus, it's now possible to place an order with, say, two units of teriyaki sauce rather than four by entering 2x "teriyaki sauce" and 2x "no sauce". Similarly, an order with no sauce at all is 4x "no sauce".

This is quite possibly the least intuitive ordering process I've ever encountered, and I've literally worked in e-commerce.

I once had an online ordering experience where they were selling a 12 pack of cookies, but within that pack you had to select each cookie individually. But the thing is that there was only one type of cookie to choose from. So it was just clicking "chocolate chip cookie" over and over again 12 times in a row.

I have to imagine that it was just an artifact of previously having had more than one cookie option and just never changing how it was set up, but it was still bizarre to see.

One place I shopped at had one item listed, and if you wanted a different item, you'd order the one item and put the item you actually wanted in the special instructions field.

alright here we go

this one's for "stupid" mentally disabled people. people who can't do basic math. people who are gullible to no fault of their own. people who can't understand nuance in some situations. people with cognitive issues. intellectually disabled people.

hey, you're doin' just fine. doing a great job, even! don't put yourself down or feel like your worth as a person rests on how smart you are. we'll be ok

Can I get a sidebar holler for the folks who "used to be smart", who have lost skills, lost memory, lost independence. You're still valuable and loveable, and you're worth more than what you can do

YOU KNOW IT BOSS!!! *has declining cognitive function and memory loss from brain damage*

I'm in a weird situation weight wise where people look at me like I'm proper insane if I call myself fat. I just finally got jeans that fit me and they're a 40 waist (meaning it's incredibly hard to find ones that fit and look decent at the same time). By BMI standards (though I know it's bullshit), I'm considered "obese" (and no, it isn't muscle). And yet I don't always look "fat". I know there are people fatter, but like, I AM fat in comparison to "average" people (I'm so annoyed I had to come back and add this but in case anyone comes at me with "40 waist isn't REAL FAT").

So skinny people don't take me seriously if I talk about fatphobia and slim privilege and fat people think I'm talking over them/on their behalf if I mention it to them!

It's so hard to be proudly fat, or to try to accept my body for what it is when nobody else accepts my body even by descriptive terms!!! Why is fat considered an exclusive demographic and not an adjective??
