I saw this cool thing called the alexandrite effect. It refers to the apparent change of color in certain minerals. For Nova, this transformation starts from the inside and moves out. It has even affected some of her appearance and added some other abilities. Her eyes can see infrared radiation, and she can grow a prehensile tail. She can turn these on and off by command.
