I keep thinking about Wu and Garmadon in the Aspheera flashbacks. Because I know it’s usually thought that Garmadon was always clearly more evil or perhaps mean, thus revealing the more prominent oni heritage in him, but, honestly? I can see it being the other way around, especially with the way that child Wu acts in those flashbacks, completely disregarding the FSM’s rules, meanwhile Garmadon is the one wanting to be honest and listen to their father.
We also don’t know when all of the Aspheera stuff happened in regards to Garmadon getting bitten, so it could be before or after. What if Garmadon was actually the one who was more dragon at the beginning, but the snake bite changed him to darkness so drastically that the balance practically forced Wu’s dragon side to come forward instead? Just a thought I had.
Hey op you may be interested to know that, in the Spinjitzu Brothers books, it says something about Garmadon being the responsible one before the thing with Aspheera.
I don’t remember the exact words, but it seems that ordeal had opposite effects on them. Wu became more responsible, where Garmadon became more… I don’t think reckless was the word. But something like that.

i cannot help but think this is a direct result of liberal White Guilt and how people have interpreted āanti-racismā as form of cultural self-segregation - the kind of person who thinks trying to cook chicken curry is cultural appropriation, or sends white people anon hate for wearing a kimono (yes, this kind of discourse happened). like, āoh, no, i could never participate in this culture, iād get my evil white hands all over it! it would be more Progressive if I only did White things.ā
if youāre a poc youāve seen this, iām sure - this deer-in-the-headlights stare you can get from white people when you play music / show art / share a story / anything that is Racially Coded, this total refusal to actually engage with it out of fear that it is in some way Wrong for them to have any opinion on it. because they read somewhere that itās bad to use AAVE but the only lesson they actually learned from that is āgotcha, white people are not allowed to interact with other cultures as punishment for my White Crimes. this helps to fill up the gaping pit of my white guilt and makes me one of the Good People.ā this transforms their discomfort around non-white cultures (black culture, especially, i should add) into a kind of virtue
anyway if you are white and reading this. go listen to some fucking haliu mergia. ethiopian jazz. will knock your dick right off. go listen to rap or reggae or bollywood and have a genuine reaction to it - like, an actual, from-the-heart reaction. you are allowed to not like some of it. but you will definitely like at least a little. yes, you can compare it to lemon demon (or whatever) if that helps you get into it and thatās your only point of reference. maybe donāt say that part out loud. but donāt, like, separate yourself from it, like you are seeing it in a museum and the only polite thing to do is go āahh, huh, very interesting, so much culture here.ā

I am disappointed that so many people reblogging this seem to have gotten the milquetoast message āappreciation is not appropriation! promote artists of color!ā instead of what Iām actually trying to communicate, which is āa lot of people who call themselves well-meaning liberals are actually deeply uncomfortable around people of color and other cultures in general, so they frame their avoidance as a kind of respect so they can keep their own self-image consistent.ā I am not saying āaw, they mean well.ā

People who think rap is ONLY about sex/wealth/violence have never stopped to consider that rap branches out into a hundred different subgenres. I basically solely listen to metal and āemoā music covers and anime/video game songs and let me tell you I absolutely still have rap in my playlists.
Give this a listen and tell me that rap isnāt beautiful and inspiring. Your problem isnāt with rap as a medium itās with a certain tone and you can very easily find an artist you actually vibe with. Donāt read into the bad propaganda doled out by people who donāt know better. Itās like saying metal is ONLY about being angry and rock is ONLY about drugs and country is ONLY about loving America. Itās only true if you go out of your way to be a music snob.
