Ottawa Community Defence Fund for Palestine Solidarity
Hi all, I want to take a moment to share a way in which you can help provide funds to my local community’s legal defence fund related to arrests and charges at Palestine solidarity protests and actions.
Since October, Ottawa has been seeing more instances of criminalization of peaceful protests and civil disobedience, including the unjust application of noise bylaws against pro-Palestine protesters. With students from uOttawa now starting to organize their own demonstrations to demand that the university fully discloses all investments made and completely divests from any and all corporations involved in Palestinian genocide, now is the time for the community to solidify the movement.
Ottawa-based Labour 4 Palestine has set up a defence fund that will go towards:
Any future costs from bylaw tickets issued for alleged violations by those using sound amplification devices at Ottawa actions/protests;
Legal defence and bail costs related to arrests and charges that may occur at Palestine solidarity protests and actions; and
Other costs identified by L4P as essential to maintaining a health and growing Palestine solidarity movement in Ottawa

i got cut off my health insurance without warning yesterday. there are meds i can’t go without while i’m trying to get back on it. so things are going to get very expensive.

I’m running out of ADHD meds and I need those to function and keep bills paid. Without insurance, picking up my prescription will probably be frighteningly expensive (I do use GoodRx but it doesn’t always work/help). I’m still paying off bills for doctor/telehealth visits.
I am only just now medicated (thankfully was able to pick up a good amount of these meds) for PTSD that has absolutely wreaked havoc on my body, mind, and entire adult life. I am in several thousand dollars of debt from how it’s exacerbated my chronic pain and other physical health issues.
I’m going to need help to even begin to recover from all this. Especially while I’m having to go without health insurance.
I’ve tentatively made a Recovery Goal of $2k, which is a small fraction of the pit I’m in but should give me enough space to at least try to get back on top of things.
currently at $10/2000 (I will add commission sale funds to this as well, but I’m scared that I’ll have to take on too much while in recovery.)
