So I've been learning French for a while and 'faire' is actually an incredible word. Like what a fucking breakthrough in economy of language.

Faire is a verb that is usually translated into English as "to do/to make," but it covers way more actions than that, which is very confusing for new speakers. because (I have realized) that's not really what faire means.

Faire is actually a word that just gestures vaguely in the direction of the object of the sentence and goes "you know." "Je fais du velo." "Je fais du courses." "Je fais mes valises." I'm biking. I go grocery shopping. I'm packing my bags. You're just sort of pointing at a bike and going "you know, the obvious thing you'd do with it."

English: "You mean RIDE it??"

French: "Sure whatever."

Like idk I just really enjoy the concept of a catch-all verb that you can just slap onto almost anything because who fucking gives a shit, you get the idea. There's a bike. what do you think I'm going to do with it.

i don't know man, i just wish that we could [suddenly realising i'm coming dangerously close to expressing a real and earnest thought instead of filtering everything through several layers of intangible running bits] blow up the entire world. or something.

South Park is extremely offensive even if you don’t see or notice it 🙄

SP fans will justify this show to their graves

I feel like SP stannies being wholly unable to recognize that is the proof in itself

saw some tiktoks making fun of girls who want to wear revealing clothes in public while in a relationship and I just want to say if you love her and she loves you why do you care. "what if another guy tries to get intimate with her" just kill him? what happened to chivalry

Be careful out there. Because, more than usual, you can't be sure who's listening. (Or who may be, later, once your data's been scraped and sold...)

ā€œHave you ever wondered where your friend hangs out on Discord? Tired of basic search tools like Discord.id? Look no further!ā€ Spy Petā€™s website reads. It claims to be tracking more than 14,000 servers, 600 million users, and includes a database of more than 3 billion messages.

404 Media was unable to verify whether those figures are accurate, but did confirm the service is scraping messages from Discord servers and is making them and other user data available to paying customers.

Important to know is that they don't have Discord's permission or special backdoor access, they're using bots (seemingly not hijacked legitimate accounts, just bots; I don't know if they make an effort to convincingly disguise the bots as human lurkers either) to scrape whatever servers they can reach, which is mostly big public servers with permanent open invites. You can see what servers are in their database without money or a login (although it throttles how often you can query it), so I checked whether the Discord servers I'm on were in it and the only one I found was the 50,000 user official server for a video game studio.

I don't know if the scraper bots are sophisticated enough to navigate a 'press a button or type a command to get a role that unlocks more channels' system like many servers have, but I kind of doubt it, because those aren't identical from server to server so they would need to try several different possibilities every time, and the time they put into coding the bots to automatically interact with other bots or Discord features is time they could spend crawling more servers that are completely open; this is a quantity-over-quality type of operation. I don't see any way they would have access to DMs between two or more real people through these bots either, so there's that.
