If you dare come at me about banning straws, I will throw you into the sun cannon. I’m disabled, I’m crippled, I need disposable plastic straws, and all those pricey ridiculous alternatives aren’t working as well. Plastic straws were invented for the disabled.

Way to shit all over a vital access need because you think straws are worse than corporate greed.

We all care about the turtles, the seals, the oceans, obviously. Notice how the easiest thing to yell about was something that would barely affect anything but appealed heavily to emotional discourse.

The disabled community is huge, and it can be joined by anyone. Most of those As Seen On TV products were invented for us. Society still mocks us and ignores us, and often outright harms us in multiple ways.

Communicate better. Listen better. But stop putting us out in the cold because you are inconvenienced by our simplest needs.

Straws aren’t killing the planet, its animals, or people. They’re a microscopic fraction of an iota of a percentage of the problem. You want to do something? Ban plastic fishing nets. Anything else is just a hollow feel-good gesture at the expense of real living disabled people.

i have an environmental degree and i’ve been saying this since this straw ‘debate’ started: its all a tactic by those in power to distract people’s attention from bigger issues such as fishing waste. don’t fall for it. and don’t be a dick to disabled people who need straws to make their lives easier.

I’m an ecologist who’s worked in deep sea environments. We don’t find straws down there. We find discarded fishing nets and lines large enough for our sensors to mistake the garbage as a shipwreck

[these pictures were taken of the ROV footage from a research cruise I went on in September. We were looking for wrecks using IDed targets, but all we found was trash like this]

Crab sighting is always appreciated. Hi there big guy!

Also, there are still people out there who will preach non-plastic alternate straws and the attached ableism like an ideology, which really worries me.

Wasn’t the whole thing first tipped over by a study done by a nine year old child with very bad data and very wrong conclusions?

The plastic straw discussion was entirely misguided and it frustrates me how it was mostly plastic straws that have been replaced, not very many other single use plastics that we could very well do without. Plastic straws are necessary. Who needs items individually packaged in plastic, coming in another casing of plastic?

Some stuff about the Your Side of Order version of Smollusk, Lusk (no spoilers for YSoO here btw):

  • After the Splat 'Em All gang's initial fight with the Overlorder, Lusk waits for them in its humanoid form (so basically just as Lusk), turns into the Overlorder for the fight (it sometimes fights the group as Lusk though), and then turns into Smollusk after being beaten, only to turn back into Lusk once the group leaves (will further explain this all in YSoO)
  • Lusk's voice is a mix between the S2 versions of the female and male octoling voices but with the same distortion the voices of the Parallel Canon Agent 4 clones. Lusk can also attempt to exactly replicate the voices of others (either to mock someone or to flatter someone), except the impression sounds a bit off. Lusk's voice gets even more distorted when it's angry but the distortion will go down a bit when it's sad.
  • Knows how to use every weapon, special, and sub that exists ('cause AI)
  • April goes up to the control room just to be with Lusk. They sort of have a Fluttershy-Discord relationship.
  • Lusk is only kind and somewhat affectionate towards April 'cause she doesn't always fight it when she's up there (without her friends, anyways) and because of her good and kind nature. Lusk doesn't quite know what it feels around April nor how to handle these feelings 'cause it only existed for a little while and lives in relative isolation.
  • Has the same intelligence as Order, except Lusk behaves more like your average teen than a full blown adult.
  • Lusk doesn't seek to continue its original plan to create a world of order, so it just fights the Splat 'Em All gang just to get them out of its "territory".

Re-learning how to use splatling in S2 'cause I used to be really good at it but then I stopped using splatling for some reason. If a decent splatling kit I like comes out in the next S3 update then I might just bring those skills to 3, that is if I get good again.

Au where Rapunzel cuts her hair as a child ✂️

Ok! Op hope it’s ok to reblog this with an add on but since seeing it I had some ideas I just had to doodle😅

(Obviously there’s no love story happening in this till muuuuch later, but had the idea of Eugene and Lance on the run from who knows what and coming on the tower after Gothel’s er, bit the dust, and taking in Rapunzel and making her part of the team)
