"Come in. We've been expecting you."

Event ends on November 13, 2023 at 11:59pm EST!

The Nocturne Festival is in full swing on Pandora with lights and music, vendors chatting back and forth with customers that are perusing their wares, and twilight settling like a blanket over the horizon line. You can almost taste the crisp autumn air, the bite of the breeze bringing a hint of the promise of baked goods in the city below. This is the one holiday you look forward to all year, and it's finally here.

Just as you're checking the time and grabbing your keys, however, a soft beeping sound drifts up from your holocom. Familiar, but... eerie, now, as you recognize just what that beeping means.

Sure enough, you swipe up on the notification when you notice the IAB’s logo emblazoned on the preview. You weren't expecting any new notices so soon, but you feel an odd, icy feeling creep up your spine as your eyes scour the contents of the message.

Below this string of words are vague but various details on the event that ominously dub it the ‘Altar of Gluttony’. Although it makes your stomach drop to read back over, it might not hurt just to check it out a little bit... right?

♢ ♦ ♢

"Don't drink anything. Don't eat anything. Don't get too close to the target. And, for the love of the stars, do not make direct eye contact."

The rules laid out for you by the bureau rattle around in your head as you're approaching the designated location. Trepidation rises within your chest as you watch the bustle of the city fades away into the background the deeper you travel into the depths of Echo Reach, the landscape baring more of its bones and revealing Pandora's more abandoned and dilapidated quarters.

The location is an 'abandoned' butchery building, rusted from the inside out and leaking grime-covered chains and various stained paraphenalia. Objects lost to the centuries scattering the yard and trash strewn about that noboody ever bothered to clean.

Well... it makes sense, you supposed, considering the nickname of this volatile man. 'The Butcher'.

A red-blooded djubetos with a voracious appetite for the flesh of other djubetos, and known for being a power that almost rivals the 'Hand of Pandora', Zeta Four.

You pick your way towards the bigger door of the warehouse when you exit your ride - a straight shot for the entrance, easy as pie. There is no light flooding out from underneath the door like you expected, only a flat expanse of darkness paved around you. The building looms high over you and you fidget there for a moment, wondering if this was the right entry after all despite your instruction being perfect.

You're just about to back away and circle around to find another way in when a soft hissing noise backons from within, so quiet at first that you thought you've just imagined it, but it's unmistakably there when you hear it slithering through a second time.

Heart in your throat and a prickle in your stomach, you reach for the rusted-over doorknob and give a little push inwards, the climbing moonlight overhead bathing darkness it fell into with a soft glow.

Only a soft creak reaches your ears when you step inside, but immediately your eyes find the tall silhouette of the man that is waiting for you just out of reach of the door's swing.

The first thing you notice about him is his suit. Clean and crisp, he looks like he's wearing the void he had just been standing in, slashed through by the neon red of his tie. The second thing is a silvery coat shawls his shoulders; you think for a moment that you recognise it, but you can't quite place where you've seen it before. It almost blends in with his wintry hair. The third stirs the ghost of a breeze over you and causes ice to shoot up your spine, freezing your breath as well as your blood. Without thinking you had swung your gaze up automatically, canvassing this new threat with quick practice and skilled precision.

A pair of beautiful vermilion eyes lock themselves into place and grasp your gaze tightly, seeming to physically swirl as he assesses your appearance. Your breath finally escapes you.

"Come in. We've been expecting you."

Event Details

Welcome to this year's Halloween event! It's a little smaller than the Nocturne Festival usually would be, but we have a couple things for you guys anyway !

The Altar of Gluttony introduces a seasonal mission that you can complete to earn new exclusive items provided by our new NPC, Aberrant! He doesn't have an official NPC page just yet, but you can find his reference / entry on Manna's account here.

Please remember that you MUST join our Discord to be able to participate this year!

We're introducing several new items, a mix of afflictions and traits, into the RNG for our new mission! You can find the list below:

Untitled_Artwork.png?ex=6534a22b&is=6522

Psychedelic Blood

-Trait item-

“Aberrant’s blood. You can see black mold spores dancing in the droplets.”

A drop of Aberrant’s blood. It is infested with Ergot fungus, and consuming it will permanently give a djubetos the Odd Eyes trait. This trait covers any pupil or iris shape mutations, removes pupil or isis coloration, or most other eye mutations. This does not allow for eye duplication, but may give multiple irises per eye.

Untitled_Artwork.png?ex=6534a5bb&is=6522

Infected Ichor

-Affliction item-

“It seems like someone else has already taken a sip…”

This is infected with a djubetos immunodeficiency virus, which essentially shuts down a djubetos’s immune system, making them vulnerable to disease. More interestingly, wounds in these djubetos no longer heal, and many of these djubetos are held together with crude stitches.

Untitled_Artwork.png?ex=6534ada1&is=6522

Rotted Sample

-Affliction item-

“Aberrant swears that this is safe to eat, but it’s been wet aging for 6 months.”

This piece of rotted flesh seems to harbor a silicon degrading bacteria that causes a type of wasting disease in djubetos, affectionately just referred to as Rot Disease, Infected djubetos constantly decompose for the rest of their lives.

Untitled_Artwork.png?ex=65357e82&is=6523

Cerebral Fluid

-Affliction item-

"Brain juice. Yum."

Harvested from the brain of one of Aberrant’s victims. It smells a bit off, and is riddled with prions. Consuming it gives a djubetos a degenerative prion disease. It is not lethal, but chronic. Symptoms include reduction or total loss of conscious thought, either permanently or during times of stress. Victims may also drool a more acidic version of their normal saliva, and behavior may become erratic and unpredictable. Eyes become one glowing color and go blank during episodes.

Untitled_Artwork.png?ex=6535e10c&is=6523

Rusted Cleaver

-Trait item-

“This rusted knife is clearly loved by its owner. Its victims, not so much.”

Gives djubetos an exposed muscular tissue trait. It does not heal, and is areas of meat textured and colored flesh. Pieces of bone may be visible. Most often occurs on tail or limbs.

Untitled_Artwork.png?ex=6535e741&is=6523

Slaughterhouse Tour Ticket

-Trait item-

“You don’t remember this tour, but the ticket is punched. I wonder what happened?”

Expensive, but allows a djubetos to receive a tour of Aberrant’s slaughterhouse. Gives a djubetos the exposed bone trait. Bones such as the ribcage, spine, etc may appear on the outside of the body.

sample.png?ex=653c592d&is=6529e42d&hm=aa

Unknown DNA

-Trait item-

“Aberrant shrugs when asked about the origins of this sample. ‘Sorry, I don’t remember what that came from’.”

This mutagen grants a djubetos the Sticky fingers trait, giving them gecko-like setae on their beans.

MISSIONS

No Djubetos event is complete without its missions! Please read the missions over carefully before submitting entries.

Please join our Discord and submit your entries to #halloween-event-submissions!

The Lamb Misused

Mission type: Art or Literature

Requirements: Flatcolor with simple background OR 500 words minimum describing the encounter

Rewards: RNG? (afflictions + traits)

Please make sure you post your finished piece in #halloween-event-submissions to grab your rewards!

This mission has an RNG-based prize and can be submitted for up to three times!

Your objective is clear, and the target is a little too close for comfort, but things couldn't be going smoother for your operation. You're still prepared for the worst to come - this place is, effectively, a death trap for you, a fact that you'd already resigned yourself to. You're supposed to be staying undercover, but instead of removing you from the equation, Aberrant seems to be fairly lucid, even offering you a wide array of paraphenalia.

While you aren't losing sight of what you have to do, you can't seem to help yourself... those hypnotic eyes on you aren't easy to ignore.

Draw or write about your djubetos (or an NPC) attending whatever this event could be and gathering intel. Are there other djubetos there? Or was that invitation exclusive? Are they talking to Aberrant, or any other guests? Must be at least flatcolored half bodies with a simple background.

Pumpkinpalooza

Mission type: PUMPKIN

Requirements: Must be a picture of your carved pumpkin (or gourd), enough to be able to clearly see the results! Doesn't have to be Djubetos-related, but you will get a little extra for including a yohu.

Rewards: 5 photons (+5 bonus photons if you carve something Yohu-related)

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

Show us your pumpkins! We always want to see them, regardless if they're Djubetos-related or not! We'd definitely love to see a Yohu inspired one though :eyes:

Take a picture of a pumpkin you've carved and submit it! It doesn't have to be Djubetos-related, but you MUST include your username handwritten on a piece of paper somewhere in the image for proof.

Summer MYO Event || 2023 [CLOSED]

Posted 9 months, 14 days ago by Twilightmyst

IMG_0855.png

Welcome to our summer 2023 bi-seasonal free MYO event! As always, everyone who participates will get at least one standard MYO for free, with the option of perhaps... earning some goodies?

We're doing things a little differently this season though - only FTOs (first time owners) will be allowed to get the MYOs this time (and if you get a MYO through this event, you won't be able to do the newbie missions)! Hang tight though, existing members have a chance at getting some of the goodies still!

*We're still currently in the middle of overhauling our MYO and mutations guides, so pardon our dust, and please feel free to ask as many questions as needed!

Event ends July 14th, 2023 at 11:59pm EST!

What is a Djubetos?

Djubetos are bipedal, silicon-based lifeforms that came from deep space. They are able to travel by splitting atoms within their tails - this leaves them constantly on the verge of starving, and hence, one of the biggest threats in the universe. While aggressive, they are occasionally admitted into human society due to their strength and intelligence.

The typical djubetos sports a tail filled with nuclear gel, colored limbs, a set of crystalline horns, and a bad attitude. Their DNA is highly unstable, allowing for almost any mutation one can imagine.

Beyond 'standard' and 'mutated', within the group lore there are two types of djubetos: societal and spacebound. Societal djubetos are legal djubetos that have microchips embedded in their necks that carry special information, such as: a unique ID number, profession, handler information, designated ship fleet, and their CC/KC. Some societal djubetos do forego their microchips or tear them out, and can go underground illegally within society.

Spacebound djubetos are wild djubetos from the depths of space. Typically these are extremely difficult to catch and manage, so they're usually killed on sight except in certain special cases. Spacebound djubetos can sometimes become societal djubetos.

78CB96F1-5BBD-452E-80E5-D6E25D7879DF.png

Here's our group mascot, Manna, as an example!

What is the standard MYO slot?

The standard MYO slot is our most basic common slot - 'standard' is also another way to refer to an unmutated djubetos.

Standard djubetos typically have traits from the basic trait pool*, or they are djubetos that are inherently still common but have mutated traits acquired from a 'mutagen' or other item.

*Traits that every djubetos can obtain!

What are mutagens?

A mutagen is a single-use item that allows you to apply a single mutation to your standard djubetos! Mutated djubetos cannot apply mutagens. These are different from other items in that you can use this to apply ANY mutation, not just ones that have been discovered. If you need help with figuring out mutations, feel free to contact one of the admins, ikaXinu or Twilightmyst, via Discord or DM/private message on TH!

Click here to visit the full MYO guide!

How do I participate? [New members]

You must be a FTO (first time owner) to grab a MYO slot this time around!

In order to grab your free slot, at MINIMUM you must create a TH bulletin or a forum post and link it in your comment.

*There is no time limit for designing your Djubetos, but your blank MYO will be locked to your account until it is used. Once you have designed your Djubetos, and after they have been approved on our Discord, it will NO LONGER be locked to your account after that point! Just remember that you will have to submit the proper form on our Discord in order to finalize trades or sales.

Once you have submitted your comment, we will walk you through the process of creating your MYO's TH profile. You will need this profile confirmed by ikaXinu or Twilightmyst first before you can begin designing.

Nocturne Festival || Halloween Event!

Nocturne Festival || Halloween Event!

Ends November 13th 2022, 11:59pm EST

IMG_1154.png

Welcome one and all to this year's Nocturne Festival! Grab a flag and indulge in the festivities!

Event ends November 13, 2022 at 11:59pm EST!

As the year grows shorter and the days run colder, things change pretty significantly on Pandora, too.

Walking around Main Street and even in the downtown districts you can see people milling around and local Djubetos setting up for the upcoming Nocturne Festival. Even though this species group is based on Djubetos, don't forget that they're still considered fairly uncommon within human society!

The Djubetos vendors and commonfolk weren't here that consistently during the day, but evening dusts across the horizon and lights begin to dot the streets as they light up one by one, flicking on at the usual time all the other streetlamps pop on. You can see the various decrorations and flags thrown into high relief by the harsh glow.

The Nocturne Festival. What humans have originally dubbed 'spooky month', the Djubetos of Pandora have claimed for their own to express their pride in being who they were born to be! It's mostly based on species, but orientation and attraction is also celebrated for those amongst the societal Djubetos. Humans are encouraged to join in on the festivities, but the night belongs to the Djubetos! Particularly the last month of October, too, wherein the Nocturne Festival is primarily held - the whole last week all Djubetos-owned facilities are closed during the day, only to open up at night instead, and the night market becomes available to all well into the night! Typically, humans will not venture out much during the week of the Nocturne Festival, though.

However, this year, it seems like there's been a bit of issue?

“Oh, yeah. A lot of decorations and tools have apparently gone missing during setup; Warren and I have checked it out already, but I'unno what's causing it.”

Upon talking to Vaughn, he wasn't able to give many details, but he also seemed pretty equally busy as well with his own business. When you asked him if he's participating in the festivities as well, he just laughed and offered a lopsided grin.

“Nah. I mean, I'll be visiting, but just to party and be a customer the week of. If you want to know more about who's swiping what though, the one in charge of everything this year is... ugh. That nightclub guy. You know the one.”

Clearly the mention of Zeta was enough to sour his tongue, because he simply waved you off until you went on your merry way, following his recommendation with the barest bit of trepidation.

♢ ♦ ♢

When you find Zeta you're surprised to see he's out and about amongst the crowd outside, occupying a dark-hued stall and apparently helping set up wares. Less surprisingly, you see it's Crow that he's leaning on the shoulder of - apparently, they find it safe enough to be out and about this time of the year without worry. Crow, of course, is wearing his usual mask, but Zeta is sporting a mask that's almost akin to a muzzle. They (or... just Zeta, at least) don't seem happy to really be interrupted, but Zeta still looks up at you skeptically.

"I know my club is closed and all, but I didn't expect to have so many people come looking for me today."

You thought you imagined the low groan coming from beneath Crow's mask. He's definitely done with hearing Zeta right now. Ignoring this, however, you jump right into asking Zeta about all the weird disappearing objects.

"Oh, sure. Lots of people have complained about stuff going missing recently. Maybe even a human or two? Real shame."

Judging from his expression, his words seemed pretty disingenuous. Huh.

Before you could respond, though, a dark shape flitted past the stall, and you swore whatever it was has its arms simply loaded with what looked like...trinkets? It's kinda hard to tell because at the same time Crow grabbed your shoulder in a death grip and shoved both you and Zeta aside.

"Stealing stuff AGAIN?"

His voice was low and thunderous, and it's probably the most emotion you've ever seen come off the guy. He looked(?) as if he wanted to run after the thief himself, but Zeta placed a cautionary hand against his chest. If you could see Crow's expression right now it would probably be something bordering on disgust - or... at least that's what youre imagining - but thankfully it seemed to distract him as he turned towards Zeta and fended off his hand with a sharp, deliberate smack.

"Owie. Well, seeing as you and I are both kind of... busy and not supposed to wander far from the booth, why don't we send our new friend here off and about? I'll reward your efforts nicely if you can catch whatever that little creature was."

Although his voice was dripping with nothing but honey, Zeta's eyes were bottomless pits, flat and empty. And they were all trained on you. Eugh. You didn't waste any time in scurrying off after the thief, hoping you were headed in the right direction, desperate to escape his dead gaze. You really didn't want to find out what he had in store for you if you failed.

♢ ♦ ♢

You spent a good few hours running about the festival grounds, and by now you had no leads whatsoever. Guh. This was exhausting.

You're a little scared to sit down and take a real break since you know Zeta's threat still holds, but you figured it wouldn't hurt to slow down a tad and look around the wares while you continued your survey of the area.

Thank the stars you didn't have to look very long, though, because you suddenly heard a weird little crunchy voice from across the way, in a booth that was filled with a curious amount of items you knew Crow also had in stock. Rare commodities here and there.

"Buy! Gimel have wares! Give coin! Give give!"

You'd know that accent anywhere. It was a little Miauvi! You don't know any MiauMiau, despite knowing it's fairly easy to pick up on, but even though his Common was a bit broken it wasn't too hard to understand him. It... was pretty bold of him to just set up his own booth like this though, especially knowing that Crow's booth wasn't actually all that far away from here.

You decided to just approach the booth and confront him head on.

Seeing him clearer upon approaching, you took in his form. He couldn't have been too much taller than five foot, and his inky black hair fell loosely around his apple-shaped face, framing it just enough to show off his lamp-like yellow eyes. The coat he wore seemed a bit too big for him, and he had an oversized grey plaid scarf pulled up his neck.

He offered you a shit-eating grin when he saw you step up, eyes sparkling. He recognized you.

"Ope! Bye bye!"

Shit. All right. If it's a chase he wants, it's a chase he's gonna get!

Miauvi + Muunvitus

IMG_1177.png

Miauvi are finally here!

Miauvini (singular, ‘miauvi’) is the native species of the planet Muunvitus. They are humanoid in appearance, with fuzzy ears and tails that many humans find irresistible. Luckily, most miauvini don’t mind the occasional touch to the ears or tail. These may appear as any earth mammal’s ears and tail might! Miauvini stand on average about 5’2”, with the tallest one ever being recorded at 6’2”! Some miauvini have humanoid hands and feet, and some have animal paws. Some even have something that looks halfway between, it depends on the miauvi.

Miauvini are extremely intelligent for the most part and they tend to produce a lot of innovative tech that planets far and wide utilize today - even Pandora's foundations were designed by a Miauvi!

Their main language is called MiauMiau and though there are many different dialects and a few other languages that evolved alongside it, it's just as widely known as Common is.

Humans welcome miauvini into their societies, and as a result, miauvini are incredibly common in most human fleets. They tend to live cushy lives, somewhat pampered by their human companions. Unfortunately though, this means that they’re seldom taken seriously, which may be frustrating to many. Due to this, many miauvini try and befriend societal djubetos out of solidarity (and maybe out of the hope that a big scary djubetos friend standing behind them will make the humans listen to what they have to say…)

Not all djubetos take kindly to this, as miauvini tend to be quite extroverted and talkative, but the ones who do can count on a loyal friend for life.

The species page is almost ready, so look forward to that plus the planet's information after the Halloween event concludes in November!

Afflictions

Afflictions are now available for purchase in Aisle 4 of the Black Market!

81CA3CAD-64D4-4BE3-B1D7-B33688D77247.png

Currently only tne Huskworm affliction can be purchased, but perhaps there's a few different ways to obtain the other three that are also available... ?

Check the Afflictions page to learn more about Afflictions and what they can do!

MISSIONS

No Djubetos event is complete without its missions! Please read the missions over carefully before submitting them.

*All of these missions can be done as many times as you'd like! Please make new comments when submitting more prompts (or simply submit them all as one) instead of editing your original one; we won't be able to see it otherwise.

TRICK OR TREAT!

Mission type: Art or Literature

Requirements: Flatcolor OR 400 words minimum

Rewards: RNG? (afflictions)

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

This mission has an RNG-based prize and can be submitted for multiple times!

The chase is on! Gimel has fled his booth with armfuls of various items and he's still on the loose, so now it's up to you (again) to catch him... or risk the wrath of Zeta and Crow. Luckily, it seems like Gimel is toying with you, popping up every now and again to stick his tongue out only to circle around and disappear moments later. "Catch Gimel, get a treat! Or a trick..."

It's a little frustrating, but clearly he wants you to play this game with him - maybe you'll get something out of it if you manage to catch him? He's slippery, though, so be careful!

Draw or write about your Djubetos catching Gimel before he can escape again! Whether he gives you a treat or plays a trick on you is up to the RNG, but it looks like he's pretty squirmy wormy so don't worry, there'll be multiple chances to catch him!

Festival Culture

Mission type: Art or writing

Requirements: Flatcolor bust or 400 words minimum, MUST include Gimel somewhere!

Rewards: RNG? (black market item pool)

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

This mission has an RNG-based prize and can be submitted for multiple times!

After catching Gimel, he sputters and tries to worm his way out of your grip, but it's a little too tight for him to Houndini himself out of this time. He opens his mouth in protest and tries to hold his little hands up. "Wait! You- you want free? Right? Gimel give big lizard free!! I come from Miauvi, am interested in lizard culture. Show me culture and I give you free?"

Gimel wants to see the culture of the Nocturne Festival! Draw or write about your Djubetos doing something Halloween-ish and showing Gimel, to satisfy his curiosity. He may give you some freebies as thanks!

(Examples: Pumpkin carving, dressing up in costumes, making halloween treats, exchanging candy, scaring children, face painting, decorating, a bonfire, etc! Anything you can come up with tbh)

Goblins, Glitches, and Ghouls Galore!

Mission type: Art

Requirements: Flatcolor halfbody minimum

Rewards: 5 photons

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

Back at the heart of the Nocturne Festival, Djubetos are sporting costumes! It's just a tradition picked up from the humans, but it's pretty fun - and there's even a contest being held midway through the week of the festival for it! Who'll take home the first prize winnings?

Draw your Djubetos in a costume for the Nocturne Festival! Whether or not they're actually participating in the contest is up to you. (Please make sure it stays PG-13 as well! ♥)

Summer in Kiorilia! || RNG Mission

Ends September 10th, 2022, 11:59pm EST

unknown.png

This mission is an extension of our summer event, Summer in Kiorilia! If you'd like to read more / catch up on the context for this mission, please read the previous bulletin.

Click here to visit the main event page!

What's a summer event without fishing?

The 'water' (if you could call it that?) calls to you, despite the fact that you're a Djubetos. But when you brought up the idea of fishing to Vaughn, he just made a face at you.

"Fishing? Oh, no, you don't want to do that here. You might piss off the locals."

When he saw the disappointment weighing on your expression, he pursed his lips.

"Well, I guess you could always visit the waterfall further into the cove. I don't think any of the locals live in that little lake, and you might catch some interesting things there."

Interesting things? Like what?

"Some discarded stuff here and there. The Yohu here tend to convene around that pool so they've dragged over some weird stuff. Try it, maybe you'll get something good?"

♢ ♦ ♢

Following Vaughn's careful instructions, you set off for the waterfall lake further into the forests of Cloudburst Cove! With or without your tackle, it's worth at least a little look-see, right?

SPECIAL MISSION

Women want me
Fish fear me

Mission type: Special (art + writing)

Requirements: Polished piece OR 1k words minimum

Rewards: ??? [1 RNG roll!]

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

As per Vaughn's suggestion, you're on your way to find the little waterfall lake deep within the forests of Cloudburst Cove! The Yohu said to congregate around the lake are really colorful and tend to drag peculiar items into their little nests. Maybe even valuable items? :eyes:

Draw or write about your Djubetos involving the waterfall lake in some way! They could be fighting to get there, or fishing in the pond, or maybe even interacting with the Yohu? Get creative with it ! ♥

This is an RNG based mission!

Each entry you submit gets you one roll, and the results will be random each time! The pool will include items from Crow's shop (including mutated MYOs and pet MYOs), as well as photon bundles and a couple of interesting mystery items thrown into the mix. Also, the new Siren's Tail item is in there as well!

One of the prizes is also a small custom from iShibanu! This is a unique prize that only one person can roll - after that one person has rolled this prize, it will be permanently removed from the prize pool for future rolls.

This mission was chosen as a result of a poll on our Discord, and as such this mission will have an abundance of higher tier items for the effort of doing polished pieces / longer literature.

Items will not be assigned to certain numbers like in past missions, and as such, will be 100% random and up to the RNG. Good luck everyone! ♥

Summer in Kiorilia! || Mini-event

Summer in Kiorilia! || Mini-event

Ends August 31st 2022, 11:59pm EST

Pardon the lateness, but welcome to our August summer mini-event!!

As a warning, the introduction is a tad long, so if you'd rather skip to the end feel free but otherwise make sure you read through if you'd like to meet someone new <3

It’s August! With just one more month left in the summer season, not a lot seems to be left in terms of celebration. The heat begins to rapidly cool as the month goes on, making way for autumn… but even if it has to end on Earth, why does it have to elsewhere?

Like Kiorilia! It’s a beautiful, archipelagic planet that’s said to be like the perfect summer almost year-round, if you can catch it at a good moment. Normally it’s exceedingly difficult to get into though - despite how warm and inviting it actually was, it was plagued with violent storms that made it nearly impossible to land on. Not only that, but the outer rings of Kiorilia were made up of extremely hard shards of minerals that would typically kill even a Djubetos if they tried to fly through them. Still, though, the thought of going there for a vacation was pretty alluring…

By coincidence, you find yourself on Pandora with a couple of other Djubetos who clearly had the same idea. Some of you had come all the way from Earth, some from Pandora itself, and some from even elsewhere in the universe who’d just happened to find themselves in Pandora at the time. Simply put, there was a rumor of someone familiar with Kiorilia who had a ship that would be able to land them safely on the surface. Everyone had been pointed to one Djubetos in particular, Vaughn Darrow, located in… well, normally he was found in a flat downtown, but this time everyone managed to squeeze into Javawocky’s lobby as per the recommendation of several shop owners on Main Street.

There they found Vaughn seated at one of the furthest tables, unfortunately standing out due to the brightness of his multi-colored horns and tail. He was dressed in dark colors, his actual shirt doing nothing to accent the leather of his cropped jacket, and in the dim, warm lighting of the cafe, you really had to squint if you wanted to make out anything else.

Which was probably for the best if you didn’t, because anyone’s gaze would immediately fasten onto the reflection of his light eyes in the window, filled to the brim with suspicion.

“What do you lot want?”

IMG_0950.png

Vaughn’s voice was frosty, biting at the edges and dripping with the clear notion that he was ready for some kind of a fight. However, once it was explained that you’d all heard he had a way to pierce the dangerous outer layer of Kiorilia, his body seemed to loosen up a little.

He sighed, turning to narrow his eyes at the ragtag group before him in a way that contradicted his posture. A wadded up napkin was pushed aside, towards the freshly-empty mug that sat by his elbow.

“Look. I’d love to take all of you to Kiorilia, but I’m way too busy helping my handler with his work right now.”

As if he wasn’t just sitting in a coffee shop right now, sipping away at a drink. The only sounds heard for several moments were the soft murmurs of the cozy cafe around them. Vaughn raised a hand to knead at his temple as he felt the pressure of several pairs of eyes bearing down upon him, waiting.

At this moment, the familiar creaks of Finlo’s footsteps ghosted past the table, only pausing briefly with mildly suppressed mirth in his eyes when he realized it was Vaughn who had garnered all of this attention. The cafe manager didn’t say a word to them, but he simply skirted the group and continued on with his work, passing a stack of menus to one of his nearby employees.

“Fine.” With a defeated huff, Vaughn tipped his chair back before settling back down with a clank, standing and stretching leisurely. Finlo’s sudden appearance seemed to have struck an odd chord with him and spurred him into action. He kept one eye open, pointedly trained on the group. “If you really wanna go, I’ll take you. I guess Warren did say he wanted me to visit again at some point for his research stuff so I might as well bang out two starfish with one seashell.”

He shoved his hands into his pockets as he slipped out the front door to Javawocky, not bothering to look if the group was following along behind him. As he passed, one could just barely catch a glimpse of his ears, which had turned the slightest shade of pink.

♢ ♦ ♢

It wasn’t quite the most elegant of plans, especially since it took almost nothing, but convincing Vaughn had been successful in the end! Next thing anyone knew, the ship - aptly named the Serpent - had been boarded and Vaughn was at the helm. He was surprisingly chattery once you got him going, and the whole way there he spouted facts about Kiorilia that he and his handler, Warren, had uncovered during their brief stay there. Despite it being anxiety-inducing, it was surprisingly hard to tell when the ship had passed through the deadly forcefield of rock and shrapnel.

It was only when the ship had landed safely upon the surface that Vaughn hopped to his feet with a lopsided grin, flourishing his arms as if proud to show off the planet he'd called home for nearly a decade. Just beyond the door, which he swiftly opened to reveal the sandy expanse of beach before them, you can see a couple of the native Minnouchi species poking their heads out of the 'water' to see what's going on.

"Welcome to Kiorilia! We've landed on Cloudburst Cove, the planet's biggest island - just don't go too deep into the forest. That's how the carnivorous plants get you."

His explanation was quick and breathless, and it was easy to tell that he was excited to be back, but he hesitates. You ask him if he's coming with the group.

"Me? Well... I'll be on the ship for a bit longer, I have to maintenance her since this is the first time she's flown in a while. If you need me, you'll know where to find me."

Click to learn more about Vaughn!

[There isn't an official reference yet, but it will be released eventually with the others!]

We have one new minor location released with the introduction of this event as its setting - Kiorilia! It's a beautiful planet with a lot of untapped potential, and it's very open in terms of creativity and what you can do with it.

Vaughn Darrow, one of our NPCs that come from Pandora, is also now available in the NPC list!

With the introduction of Vaughn, we have one new temporary feature available exclusively on the Discord!

The Serpent - NPC Chatter

Click here to join the Discord!

Vaughn has set up shop within his ship, the Serpent! Although he's more than willing to take breaks for an adventure or two, he's very dedicated to working on his ship at the moment so that she's in tip-top shape - he might, however, enjoy a bit of company while he works.

If you're a part of the Discord, you'll now be able to access a channel (#the-serpent) where you'll be able to talk to Vaughn, either as yourself or in-character if you so wish! He'll (probably) be able to answer anything you're curious about. Just be careful about prying, he may clam up if you push him too far.

New Item Available!

We have one new item currently available to obtain, Siren's Tail!

IMG_0856.png

This item is currently only available through the mission 'Taking the Plunge'. It won't appear in the shop for a while so if you've always wanted a mermaid Djubetos, now's your chance!

MISSIONS

No Djubetos event is complete without its missions! Please read the missions over carefully before submitting them.

*With the exception of 'Taking a Plunge', the other three missions can be done as many times as you'd like! Please make new comments when submitting more prompts instead of editing your original one; we won't be able to see it otherwise.

Starhopping

Mission type: General prompt (art, writing, anything goes)

Requirements: Flatcolor OR 400 words minimum; Ask for other mediums if unsure!

Rewards: 3 photons

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

Getting to Kiorilia was a cinch thanks to Vaughn's expert piloting, and soon enough, everyone had arrived safely on one of the bigger islands, Cloudburst Cove. Even a little Yohu or two can be seen milling around in the tidepools of the nearby sandbar, which is a bit unusual.

This is a general prompt, so you can submit anything as long as it's event relevant and meets minimum requirements (depending on the medium used)!

What Lies in Wait

Mission type: Literature (no art!)

Requirements: 400 words minimum

Rewards: 3 photons

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

Vaughn's been working hard for the past few hours, but he's missing out on all the fun! It takes a lot of doing to pull him away from his ship but once he finally relents, he can't quite think of anything to do. Despite living here for a while he seems to not get to vacation very often. He seems puzzled when you suggest going on an adventure to loosen him up, but seems amicable to the idea. Time to see what lies beyond the horizon!

Write about your Djubetos going on an adventure with Vaughn! There's many places to explore on the islands and sandy beaches of Kiorilia - or even beneath the 'water', if you're brave enough to take the plunge.

Get Served

Mission type: Art or Literature

Requirements: Flatcolor (minimum) or 400 words (minimum)

Rewards: 3 photons

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

The most important part of relaxing on the beach is playing games! A couple of the local Minnouchi gather around to watch as teams are divided and an intense game of volleyball begins! Normally the ball isn't supposed to pop or melt, or create...craters in the sand when it hits the ground... but that just adds a little extra spice when you're serving the other team.

It's volleyball time! Draw or write about your Djubetos taking part of or watching the games unfold!

Taking the Plunge

Mission type: Art or Literature

Requirements: Polished (minimum; this requires a background and shading!); 1,000 words (minimum)

Rewards: x1 Siren's Tail

Please make sure you post the link to your finished piece in the comments below to grab your rewards!

The planet Kiorilia is an archipelagic planet, filled to the brim with vast expanses of deep sapphire-hued 'oceans' and occasionally dotted by sandbars and islands. Not a lot of Djubetos get to lay their eyes on sights like this due to what the planet's weather is normally like, but this is a rare occasion! A twinkling under the oddly light waves of the 'ocean' catches your eye, though... I wonder what's down there?

Draw or write about your Djubetos exploring the depths of the brilliant not-ocean! Just be careful, it's less dense than actual water so you'll have to swim fast to avoid sinking!

Masterlist Updates

Masterlist Updates

If you'd like faster responses to submissions, please join our Discord! We check the world a few times a week but about 90% of our group functions solely on Discord due to the convenience, and it being easier to check.

Hey everyone! Forgot to make this earlier, but if you have any updates you need to make to the masterlist (username changes, transferring of ownership for djubetos/pets, updating images of djubetos/pets, giving us profile links that weren't created in the past, etc) please make sure you submit them here! We input things manually and can't always automatically keep track of what goes where as time goes on, so it leads us to have an inconsistent masterlist if we don't get the forms.
