In this world Spells can be cast by a Fighter during a spell battle. They draw 'essence or power' from their sacrifice during this battle to power their abilities.



Spell battles

Fighters are able to cast spells on others, these spells must be initiated inside a ‘spell-battle-zone’ which is usually the first spell cast. A Nameless cannot enter or ‘sense’ a spell-battle-zone. If it happened in the middle of a street, people would walk around it unconsciously.

A Nameless dragged into the zone will instantly fall unconscious and have no memory of what happened inside the area. They can be told what happened or have Names revealed to them another way; but the energy of spell-battle-zones is totally overwhelming.

A fighter entering a battle without a sacrifice must draw on his own reserves of energy. Since spell casting and spell damage drains this; it is very dangerous; a fighter can usually only cast one-or-two spells on their own without a sacrifice.

To create a battle-zone, a fighter must say “>Name here< declares this to be a spell-battle!” The second pair must respond with, “>Name Here< accepts!”

After creating a zone, the two pairs will usually ‘power up’ by reciting their Names and its meaning. For example: 'breathless, so fierce it is impossible to breathe'



Spells

All spells in Septimal Moon must be cast inside a spell-battle-zone or risk having over-powering effects on the environment.
A strong bond between Fighter and sacrifice is necessary to create stronger spells.
Spells must contain a verbal command of some sort; either a rhyme, story, calculation, aesthetic, and the power/essence from the Sacrifice.
For example: 'Water dragon, let this sacred water cleanse the evil filth!' for a more powerful spell. Much of the act of casting spells is about staying focused and calm; strong emotions or anger make it harder to form clear mental images of the effect the fighter wishes to make.


Essence: For strongly bonded pairs this can be a word of encouragement or a command; newer pairs often need physical contact or emotional enticement. The sacrifice provides the energy this way and allows the fighter to draw on their combined Name.

Names

Your Name is unique and it says as much about you as it does about your world. Loveless, for example, might be someone who is rejected by those that should love them- or may be unable to love others. Breathless might be so beautiful they take your breath away, or their nature might be the softest whisper on the wind. For some example names and the master-list of names, please scroll down.



Zero

Zero is a Name that was created in a laboratory. Zeroes do not have parents and were impressioned very early on with other Zeroes. Some believe that Zeroes are a sign that it is one’s parents that give or develop your Name. It is unclear if this is the case, but certainly, Zeroes are a hard pair to understand. These pairs are only created through Septimal’s tampering with Names; they are artificial and are only accepted for certain events



Blanks

As mentioned on the first page, Blanks do not have their own name, but can be given the name of others. Blanks are always fighters but are very rare. Blanks adopt another's name.



Corrupted

Recently, a few of Septimal Moon’s elite have been in deadly fights with a Name called the Corrupted. Several Sacrifices and Fighters have died. This Name is not known to the organisation and no one is sure why they are killing other pairs. The only information available on Corrupted is that they strike at night and that the Sacrifice for Voiceless was the only Sacrifice to survive thus far. Corrupted is an NPC name and cannot be played by players.

My character is an adult, does he/she have ears still?

In the world of loveless, someone with ears is a virgin. An adult character with ears, ergo, is a virgin. Characters sensitive about this may have fake ears and tail as an adult, to hide their actual experience.




Angst

Angst plays a special role in this world. While other worlds may not encourage it, we are drawing from sad and dark source-material and it is acceptable to have sad and tragic pasts and endings for your characters. But this is not everyone’s cup-of-tea so if you don’t want angst, please tell your RP partner if it is too dark or tragic for them. We encourage sharing your comfort levels before having weeping angels descend to the chorus of violins. But we are a friendly and welcoming sort and bring on the tears of doves!

• • • • A shady organisation dedicated to awakening Names with some ‘power’ to them. While everyone has a Name, most are not very powerful. Septimal Moon is able to locate those who would make strong members and trains these pairs to work as part of their organisation. They have a HQ in most major cities, including Nanaji city, where the world is set.

• • • • Seven Moons Academy

• • • • Seven Moons is a private Academy with very little advertising. If they see a Name they want or someone begins to Awaken, or has Awakened, they will recruit you to join them at this ‘school’. Normal school by day, it has after-class training for spell-battles and spells. Some or all of the faculty are Named and may work for Septimal Moon. The academy recently lost some of its students and teachers; all found horribly mutilated around town.

• • • • Nanaji City

• • • • Nanaji is a coastal city. It has an Asian feel to it but exists in a ‘world’ where English names and Asian names are perfectly normal in the same city. Everyone speaks Kemoni, which is exactly like English or any other real-world language. It exists in anime space, meaning any hair and eye-color is natural and certain laws of physics don’t always apply. There are no giant robots or monsters, and most of the games should be focused on characters and development.
