Ouroboros Among Us

In many myths, ouroboros are presented as a snake or dragon eating its own or fellow snake/dragons tail. They often symbolize infinity, cycle of life, and eternity.

While the exact origin of Velaveil's are unknown, they are believed to be the physical manifestations of ouroboros spirits due to their insatiable appetite for knowledge.

Although the first sighting of Vel's are unknown, there is a rumor amongst them about an old queen with a youthful appearance who's been alive for more than a millennium…

The Veil Explained

Velaveils are curious beings  whose main goal in life is to seek knowledge- whether it be trivial or life's biggest mysteries. Shrouded in their veil, many can remain unseen to the human eyes. If their desire is to blend in with the mortals, they have the ability to unshroud themselves to become visible; however, doing so leaves them vulnerable to physical injuries, disease, and even death.

The Crown, the Veil, and the Bangles

A key feature of the Velaveil spirits. Based on the knowledge they seek, their crown, veil, and bangles may manifest features akin to the topic they are strongly interested in. Unique to each Vel, each veil also holds magical property. While some may be able to see fragments in time, others are able to store items within its shadow. Some may be able to teleport to places they’ve visited previously, while others may be able to conjure flames.

While the crown and veil may be hidden when in human form, but the bangles remain in place. Some may say the bangle represents their status as ‘higher’ beings; creatures, far superior to humanity… However, others may say they are like shackles that keep them on earth…

Velaveil and Bonds

Like humans, Velaveils can be sentimental beings. If they feel they resonate with a creature, they may evolve features resembling the organism. For example, Vel’s who’ve bonded with a feline may develop cat-like ears and/or tails… they may begin acting like one and evolve abilities common in the feline species; such as an ability to see better in the dark.

Although rarely seen, there have been instances of Vel’s bonding with more than one animal… or sometimes creatures recorded in mythos…

Lifecycle

Similar to most mammals, Velaveil's may reproduce, but typically only once in their life. Although Vel's are rather sturdy creatures, many have difficulties producing offspring, or have little interest in doing so.

When they are born, they are humanoid in appearance with no traits resembling them as a Velaveil other than the dragon tail. At about five years old, they begin developing features akin to the Vel trait such as their crown, bangle, and veil. Typically around this time, they begin to learn how to levitate off the ground. From five to the end of life, Vels are able to float an inch or two off the ground; a very important feature when trying to keep their tail/veils clean.

The rate of growth during infancy and childhood is faster than humans, but once past the age of 15, their physical growth slows exponentially. They are able to live for a max of three centuries, and their physical appearance remains youthful until the last century of their life.

End of Life

Death is not a rare occurrence for Vels. While tougher than most living creatures, they are still vulnerable to disease and injuries. They can experience physical harm and death when they unshroud their crown and veil, or die peacefully from old age.

When in their spiritual form, it is difficult to harm them, unless a direct damage is made to their crown.
