Lore/History

Hidden away on an island in the vastness of the ocean live an extraordinary people known as the LunEars. The LunEars are the sole inhabitants of their island to which they call Lunberg. Very few folk have ever met a LunEar, with many more believing them to be a myth. But the LunEars are a very real and unique race with incredible taxonomic variation from person to person in their kind. 

The Beginning
It is said that the LunEars are divinely touched and that’s why so many of them are inherently good natured. This is explained by a mythical story that they have passed down from generation to generation. While there are small variations from tribe to tribe, the core of the story seems to be the same for them all. To them, it all began with their beloved moon goddess, Lunaris.

Far in the past, the two gods named Lun and Earis came down from the heavens and paid a visit to the earth. They stepped down onto the island now known as Lunberg and took a great interest in the animals of the island. It is said upon gracing the island that many animals came to see the two gods and pay their respect by bringing them gifts.

Fruits, flowers, fish, bones, and other items were brought to the gods' feet. The gods were touched by the generosity of the creatures. The last creature to arrive came to them with no gift. A lone rabbit had failed to bring any gift despite their best attempts. So when the rabbit approached, she offered herself to the gods. They could do what they wanted with her, be it made a servant, turned into a fur pelt, or even made into food.

The gods were touched by the rabbit’s offer and decided they would not let such an offer go to waste. But what they requested of the rabbit was not what she expected. They asked that she become their daughter. So it was that this rabbit ascended to the heavens and was reshaped in the image of both the gods. Christened Lunaris, she was made the goddess of the moon. 

With Lunaris’s rebirth, it is said all of the rabbits on the island were transformed into their currents forms and became known as LunEars out of respect for Lun and Earis’s gift.

Appearance

It's hard to actually describe the LunEar’s appearance in a few words. While most LunEars share traits—like having ears and a tail—those traits can vary from one LunEar to another by rather a large amount! In general though, it seems all LunEars have rabbit-like ears with unique patterns, a tail, horns, occasionally wings, thick thighs, small waist, clawed hands, and rabbit-like feet with claws.

Their ears range from long ears that the droop down and touch the floor to a pair that stand upright, but at a much more reasonable looking size. Interesting enough, because of their size, they contain cartilage that helps them move their ears as needed. There is also unique patterns to their ears, but I will go into detail about that a bit more down below.

Next, a person might notice their tail. Its slim with a pen-like tip. The actual length seem to vary from LunEar to LunEar. Interestingly enough is that some LunEars actually have two tails! Another unique tail feature is they all come with a detachable cap that prevents LunEars from accidently hurting others and themselves from the sharp point of their tail.

Horns! They have many horn styles, though some seem to have certain traits commonly shared. Small horns seem to be the most common, followed by two horns of larger size, then a set of horns that seem to have a smaller set in front of them, and lastly a single horn is very rarely seen. While most horns share one of these traits, the actual horns themselves can look quite different from one another at times.

Wings are another thing of note, though unlike everything before, they seem to be uncommon amongst the populace. Even more so, most that do have them have small wings that are too small to fly with. There are some that have bigger wings they can fly with, but because of their heavier weight, it's only for limited periods of time or for gliding. There’s also mention of LunEars with two sets of wings, but they barely exist and make for the rarest type of all.

LunEars also have two interesting traits which they call their Season and Element. This is most noticeably reflected in their ear patterns and as ‘markers’ on their foreheads. The marker on their forehead tends to be a bit easier to make out. An ice horn or shards means they a Winter LunEar, whereas for Spring it can be a flowering branch or flowers in some capacity. And finally, Summer and Fall both have a leaf, the difference being the coloring, as a summer leaf is more healthily colored and a Fall leaf is of more typically in the yellow to red color range.

Now, elements are more noticeable on their ear patterns. If they are an air element, their patterns can be full of clouds or something that come off as the blowing wind. Poison can come off as a noxious looking design full of purple or green bubbles. Really, the design patterns are endless and, while some LunEars have similar designs, it seems like no two design are ever the same.

To make the above talk of seasons and elements even more complex, some LunEars have up to two seasons and elements that can be reflected! There are so many combinations possible! Even more so, there may be special elements not connected to the seasons that only the most lucky LunEars are born with. 

Phew. That just about covers the most unique parts of LunEars. That said, there are common traits shared that aren't quite as unique. For one, they all have clawed hands and feet. They are fast runners thanks to their powerful legs. 

The LunEars, like most creatures, started out as nomadic groups. Overtime these groups got larger or joined with others forming larger and larger tribes. Time passed and the LunEars learned to grow their own food. Settling down, four large tribes formed that were each dominated by LunEars of a particular season. Despite this, there are still some small tribes that roam the land and all tribes have no real issues trading with one another except for one.

The Null Moon

Not all were happy with the new moon goddess and her people. Several types of creatures were envious of the rabbits transformations. Many were their former predators now struggling to hunt them. Worse, Lunaris had begun to shone down her light in the night to help protect her kind from those that tried. While the LunEars prospered, they had to adapt to other types of food.

That was until Null appeared. Legend has it that single black rabbit appeared one day on the island that drew the attention of the hungry predators hungering for their former prey. It took off, running across all the island until all were gathered. When it stopped, Null revealed himself. This angered the creatures. They attempted to attack Null, but Null was always just out of reach.

Then Null spoke. He understood them. He knew their hunger. He also knew their answer to their troubles, he told them. Offered to them was transformation into new creatures that would be able to hunt the LunEars. Consumed by their hatred towards the LunEars, the creatures that accepted. Born were the LunEars first true predators, the Argenulls.

The creatures became large birds of prey, covered in black and grey shades of feathers. They dwarfed the LunEars, becoming able to swoop down and carry one off in their talons. But in the power they gained, they lost themselves to Null’s will. Nonetheless, they went to hunt the LunEars for the first time.

The LunEars were unprepared for the Argenulls. They lived peacefully and without fear of most of the creatures on the island, so when the Argenulls came, they could only run and hide. Even Lunaris’s light was not enough to keep them safe. Lunaris watched as her people began to struggle and contemplated what she could do.

Before Lunaris could consider seeking the guidance of either Lun or Earis, Null appeared to her. Null bowed to her, explaining himself to being like her, though never truly saying how he came to be or what he really may have been. He offered her a suggestion to her problem: bestow her people with a portion of her power so that they might fight off the creatures themselves.

Lunaris attempted to discuss other ways of helping the LunEars, but Null was convincing and clever. In the end, she agreed to his suggestion and soon the LunEars received a new blessing. LunEars across the island suddenly were infused with goddess’s gift. Patterns appeared on their ears and tails. Most importantly, their affinity to the seasons and elements were born.

The LunEars were able to fight back against the Argenulls and began to form tribes to more easily defend themselves. The four main tribes—Haru, Natsu, Aki, and Fuyu—were born. The LunEars celebrated the gift given by Lunaris and began to expand their society to include warriors that would defend the group.

However, the coming days brought something that terrified the LunEars. Up in the night sky, the Moon began to lose its light. Lunaris had found herself weaker and unable to sustain the light for her people indefinitely. So it was that Lunaris would eventually need to rest and when she did, the light and the moon disappeared.

Though there was no moon, this became known as the Null Moon. For unknown to Lunaris at first, Null was the god of shadows and was his most powerful with the moonlight gone. So began the cycles of the moon. Lunaris would wake and fill the island with moonlight to weaken Null until she tired and took a rest.

Section I. Adoption and Ownership Terms

Adoption / Reception

LunEars are run as a closed species byKiyasamatheInu. As a closed species, the creator kindly requests that no one choose to make their own without expressed permission. Users do not have the rights to create their own official one. LunEars or mimics made without permission will not be admitted to the group or any community sites.They may also result in a ban or suspension from the group.

LunEar adopts are hosted on deviantArt and Toyhouse. LunEars can be received through adoptables sales and auctions as well as customs and MYOs and the occasional contest or raffle.

Users that receive a LunEar through legitimate means may not::

Violations of any of the above will result in moderator action and possible consequences following.

Ownership & Documentation

LunEars are logged and upkept through the visual masterlist @LunbergIsland

LunEars documentation is the only acceptable proof of ownership of an official LunEar. If you are having issues with receipts/proof, follow the procedures listen on the LunEars account. If further complications persist, contact a group moderator.

The LunEars group and the LunEars masterlist do not recognize co or multi ownership. Only one owner will be recognized by Lunberg Island. Co-ownership can happen in private without punishment or consequence from the group itself however, ownership disputes will not be dealt with by the LunEars team. The owner listed on Lunberg Island is the one that will be recognized.

Section II. Payment and Transfer Guidelines

Payment

LunEar sales will be available for USD and payments are processed through Paypal. Occasionally, LunEar sales will be available for purchase using DeviantArt points.KiyasamatheInu will accept point payment through the commissions widget tool offered by DeviantArt. Do not send points directly.

Accounts under 2 months old or suspicions accounts may be refused service for seller protection from chargebacks and false payments. Point refunds are not offered. USD refunds are tentative. Do not use a shared paypal account for LunEar designs. It is your responsibility to compensate the artist if payment is stalled due to another party.

Payment methods will vary for other guest artists.

Payment for customs and MYO slots is always upfront.

Payment Plans

Payment plans are available for purchases of set amounts or more listed per auction fromKiyasamatheInu’s LunEar adopts. There is a required, non-refundable 30% down payment for any payment plan. From the purchase date, the user has 30 days to pay the remainder any way they prefer. Users must note of messageKiyasamatheInu about payment plans before bidding if they intend on paying via payment plan.KiyasamatheInu reserves the right to decline payment plans for any reason.

If not paid within those 30 days, the user will be refunded anything they paid beyond the 30% down, they will receive a warning, and the design will be resold. Grace periods can be worked out if the user is unable to pay.

Failed payment plans will result in a temporary auction ban. Attempted or successful chargebacks will result in a ban from the species. Please be sure you can pay before starting a payment plan.

Auctions will be made available for paypal payment and occasionally dA point payment. Do not bid if you do not have static funds to pay equivalent to your highest bid. Once an auction ends (or if you autobuy), you will be noted or replied to for payment. You will not receive full-res, unmarked art until you have paid.

Regular set-price sales will not have time limits. These will also be paypal and point purchasable unless otherwise specified. Do not offer or bargain on set price adopts. Flatsales are first come, first served unless otherwise specified.

LunEar owners are free to trade and transfer their LunEars to other users. Please remember to inform the masterlist of ownership changes. The visual masterlist is @LunbergIsland and the instructions for updating ownership are listed in the journal entries. 

You may submit a trade journal to the group to advertise. Your trade journal or post MUST include the masterlist entry of your design for proof! For buyer and seller protection, please update the entry's ownership log promptly.

Resales of LunEar designs bought are allowed at no higher than the price they were bought for. This is to prevent “scalping” or buying designs with the intention to sell them for more soon after. A user can choose to trade their LunEar away for characters OR resell them for the value that they bought them for. 

A user cannot receive the full resale price and more UNLESS they have commissioned art of the design. Users can choose to resell up to the price they paid for the design and commissioned art. Proofs of purchase for commissioned art must be provided. Users cannot resell their design for more than they paid adding on commissioned art if they themselves did not purchase the commissioned art (they can only resell the design at the value it was purchased at).

Raffle, DTA, and gift LunEars cannot be resold. MYO slots and MYO LunEars can be resold so long as they were purchased and not a result of contest winnings or event. Proofs of purchase must be provided to the user who receives the slot. 

After a resale transaction, the person who purchases the resold LunEar or MYO slot cannot resell it for any more than what it was purchased for.

If you receive a LunEar through a trade you are not allowed to resell it.

LunEars can only be traded for merchandise that is equivalent or less than the total price of the design that it was last sold at. If the design did not begin with monetary value OR if you did not purchase the design, you may not trade for merchandise that is for sale. You may still trade for physical goods so long as it is not something that another user would have to purchase at the time of trade.

Section III. Services and Specialties

Customs

Check availability before requesting! Customs status will be listed on the LunEar schedule onKiyasamatheInu’s page. Questions about openings for customs will not be answered. Dates for openings will be announced in advance viaKiyasamatheInu’s journals, polls, or status posts.

When ordering a custom, you’re free to choose any sorts of themes so long as they are appropriate. You can send palettes and specify traits you want. For anything you don’t specify, it will be taken as creative freedom. Works in progress will be sent throughout the process.

Check availability before requesting! MYO slot sales status will be listed on the LunEar schedule on @IslandofLunberg

If you create an MYO design, please know that it will be auto-registered in our visual masterlist, @LunbergIsland. If you would like to opt-out of registration, please let us know ahead of time! Do note that if your LunEar is not registered in the visual masterlist, we cannot intervene in trade disputes.

Designing

Redesigns of LunEars are allowed! There are a few guidelines you should follow if you decide to do so:

The rights to the species is not being sold.KiyasamatheInu is the only person allowed to freely create LunEar adopts and sell MYO slots.

Permanent designers on the team are also allowed to create adopts. They are not allowed to sell customs (unless granted permission) or sell MYO slots (exclusive toKiyasamatheInu).

Section IV. Rejection and Refusal of Service

Harassment

If you find you are being harassed for a design that you own, contact the @LunEars group. If you are found harassing another deviant for or about a LunEar design, you will be given a warning, second offense will result in a ban from groups as well as adopts. If you are found harassing or being rude towards group moderators, you may be subject to a warning or a temporary ban. Further offenses may result in a permanent ban.

Do not harass or bully other users on this site or other sites for supposedly copyingKiyasamatheInu’s designs and concepts, whether that be LunEars or not. If you have a concern, please note the group. If you are caught harassing another user for that reason, you will receive a warning.

Claiming to speak onKiyasamatheInu’s behalf will result in a warning and a possible ban.

Banning

Bans outside of temporary auction bans or temporary conduct bans are permanent. Permanent bans are generally from the LunEars group as well as adopts. You will be notified if you are banned and you will be given reasons along with any provided proofs if available or if allowed by other parties. If you would like to file for an appeal, respond with your rebuttal and we will re-evaluate the case IF the option is given. If there is no option for repeal, it will be stated in the note.

Ban notices will only be sent by group admins and moderators or @Kiyasama account. If someone sends a fake ban notice, notify a moderator and we will deal with it promptly.

Within Reason: Things that are considered grounds for banning are not limited to but include the following.

Serious or repeated cases will result in blacklisting. Users are only added to the blacklist if they become a threat to others in the community (generally for scamming or dishonesty). Proofs are not provided publicly to protect the victims, reportees, and/or moderators or the privacy of the offender.

Harassing blacklisted users will result in a warning and a possible ban from the group. The purpose of the blacklist is to warn members of possible dangers to the community.

If you are banned, you may not use your LunEar designs in the group or any group activities. You are still able to trade them away or resell them but breaking trade/resale rules in the TOS will result in blacklisting.
