Cherish Traits

Satyr or Centaur?

A little lore info for you - Cherish are a very lovely and aesthetically pleasing species, they were one of the original species of Aermerea long forgotten after the war. Being pacifists most of them went into hiding and the Cherishes you see out today are typically crossbreeds between Cherishes and other Aermerean species, not pureblood Cherishes. Cherish citings are incredibly rare but not much more rare than seeing falling meteors. In fact its thought in Aermerean Myth that Cherishes may gather magic from meteors into their crystals, as the meteors itself are infused with crystal debris they absorb, but that isn't important...yet.

Information now shows Cherishes retreated permenantly under Aermerea Isle in a deep cave system called the Visitet Labyrinth, where they have continued to flourish in the crystals there, gaining more magic for them over time. There is a big underground crystalline Sakura Tree at the heart of the labyrinth that mirrors the Sakura Tree in Vita Square, its actually the roots of the Vita Square tree, it is said the tree is the All-Mother's spirit, and the Cherish protect her and keep her safe. This place was once home to a multitude of species and you can read more about it in Locations: Aermerea Sanctuary. Cherishes used to come freely from this place but now stay there in their own sanctuary afraid of the outside world. Visitet Labyrinth is huge and spans almost as big as the Isle itself underneath it. Its been hundreds of years since a non-Cherish has been inside this area. But recently an entrance opened up and communication is happening. Most of what we know about Cherishes today comes from text, so we hope to update that information.

As far as body goes Cherishes come in two main types, Satyr and Centaur, each version having slightly different features. More rarely there are other taur types but its said you need a special item to gain one. (Item - Transfiguration found in Potions & Oddities) The type you choose will only slightly affect your design so feel free to choose whatever you are comfy with.
(Note Cherishes are an Aermerean species that can not become Mermereans, but they can adopt Mer traits with the right item just not tails. A rumour says if you try to use a Kishiko's Song on your Cherish you will get some sort of Naga or Sea Dragon creature. But that's just a rumour...right? Kosuke's Amulet will also work on them.)

Hoofing Around

This species has several key parts and the legs are incredibly important for many reasons. So I'm here to explain Leg types and other info important to Cherish legs. Most of this applies directly to Satyr as Centaur has a second option this will also all apply to as well.

First of all its very important to note that Cherishes either have solid crystalline hooves or solid metal hooves. There typically isn't much if at all decoration on their hooves though sometimes small etchings can be present it isn't common at all. Cherishes hooves are magically enchanted and as they step they make music. Its a soft noise and they can magically surpress it but where they live now it isn't necessary so there is always beautiful music in Visitet Labyrinth. Its not physically possible for a Cherish to make a discordant noise so all of the little tinkles and chimes make perfect harmonies with each other. They can even sync to other music playing. Its pretty autonomous so they don't do much for this to happen it just comes naturally. Crystals have a lighter more airy noise then the metal which has a more full and sharp noise.

As an important note, if you have something other than hooved feet this still applies, for pawed feet this applies to their pawpads, for clawed feet their claws, for spiders and scorpions, snakes, legs and tail tips.

Those Leggies tho...

Cherish legs are made of resin and they often resonate and help carry tones up the leg from the hooves and ring out their music. These Resin legs can be comprised of many different things. They can be filled and decorated to your hearts content. But it seems from what we can tell Resin legs follow certain types. They are typically hollow without liquid and they are strengthened by Magic making them hard to break regardless of how hollow they are. Legend tells there is an item that adapts Cherish to a more simple form making their legs covered in fine fur and adorned by patterns. History books tell us the original Cherish had legs like these but years of life in the Labyrinth caused weird mutations and adaptations that Cherishes now have these special legs versus their original colorful fur laden ones.

Resin must be seethrough, can be plain like glass/plastic, shimmer, etched, or crystalline. You can not mismatch leg types without a shop item. (Item - Resinating in Potions & Oddities) You can however have for example a spring scene in one leg and a winter scene in the other. So your legs can mismatch within their type class. Balljointed Cherishes still have to have see-through resin, Ball jointed parts can have more than one leg type for each section of leg. If you have a centuar all 4 legs must have resin. As a note Centuar type cherishes always have a pattern on their flank of some sort, whether simple or detailed. These include things like crystal freckles and other such fur decorations. There will be an option for Resin/seethrough flanks at some point via an item. (Item - Cute Terrarium in Potions & Oddities)

Some Cherish have metal casings or decoration around their resin. These metal casings have the same option as the hooves and have to be all one type of metal. Please see hooves for metal options. They can also cover their legs with cloth coverings but they often still like to show off some parts of the leg. Covering with cloth does mute or tone down their sounds and music. This is helpful when traveling and for protecting their resin from scratches and dings.
