What is a Bloompuff?

Fluffy Cuddly Babies

Bloompuffs are the fluffy, cuddly, adorable creations of Masa-Yoshi, their goddess and Mother Nature of Aermerea. But what really makes a Bloompuff, a Bloompuff exactly? What sets it apart from other species around their lovely planet and even other Aermerea species too? We will look at some quick points here...

Firstly, all Bloompuffs always have some sort of pattern in their ears, whether it be a gradient, jeweled, lacy, etc. These patterns give Bloompuffs a beautiful way to show off the style that they were born with. Some Puffs even exhibit 2 different patterns, one unique to each ear. Patterns can range from very simple to incredibly ornate and complex, while other patterns are hereditary. Despite popular demand among the Bloompuff community, there is currently no way to change a Puff’s patterns in their ears but someday Aermerean scientists may perfect a potion that makes this possible.

Bloompuffs can have any kind of animal ears, including mutated and fantasy animal ears. Although it is rare, some Bloompuffs have been known to have no ears or winged ears.

Every Bloompuff has flowers in their ears. Whether it be a singular kind or an assorted bouquet of them, these fluffy puff babies are born with flowers adorning their inner ear. Some may also have them in other places like their hair or their tail, but always in their inner ear. Bloompuffs are incredibly fragrant and smell like their flowers. Some Bloompuffs even have flowers that change with the seasons and bear fruit or vegetables, and some even have leaves and tree parts instead. But they always always have something plant like growing in their ears.

Bloompuffs flowers also grow as they age, when a Bloompuff is born it may be unclear what flower it has as it just looks like colored petals, then as they get older they become buds, and finally at full maturity, around 18, they bloom into beautiful fragrant flowers. Their scent also becomes stronger as they age, but they can lessen it or strengthen it with magic. Many Bloompuffs flowers and smells hold magical properties or abilities.

A Bloompuff’s life force is tied to their flowers and vice versa. For example, when a Bloompuff is sick their flowers sometimes wilt or start to turn. This can also happen when they become habitually depressed or lose the will to live. If a Bloompuff’s flowers die completely, they die. Some shedding is normal so don't worry if a couple petals fall off, if all the other flowers look healthy the Bloompuff is fine. Some Bloompuffs also like to prune themselves in private as shedding in public can sometimes be embarrassing. Bloompuff flowers, and other plant life is disease resilient and water resilient so they aren't affected like a normal plant would be. Please do not pick a Bloompuff's flowers, personal flowers are treasured and while they can be given as gifts to just take them is extremely rude and taboo.

Bloompuffs all have fluffy puff tails, unless they are mutated. These tails can be attached directly to them, similar to a bunny, or on a long, thin tail like that of a mouse with a puff at the end. Absolutely all Bloompuffs have fluff so even cross breeds with demon tails or animal tails bear little bits of floating fluff. Some Bloompuffs even hide surprises or items in their tails, or adorn them with things and decorations. Some Puffs can have flowers growing off their tails or their fluff can have a glittering shimmer. Incredibly rare and elusive puffs sometimes have cloudlike or nebula tails while others have whole flowers growing at the end. Bloompuff tails start small and grow with age or as they obtain more power or magic. Bloompuff fluff is also sometimes used as currency or to make things. It is highly sought after and is incredibly soft. It's even rumored to be the softest material on the entire planet they live on.

Many Bloompuffs do like to groom or keep up with their tail, otherwise they can get very big and eventually leading to immobility and puff dander bits getting everywhere. Some people say that if these bits of stray fluff are left unchecked they can come to life as small beings called Fluffles, which are something akin to a dust bunny or rather fluff bunny. While no one will confirm or deny it, some puffs have even been rumored to keep the little magical bits as pets. This is hard to definitively prove because they can be easily hidden back in a Bloompuff’s tail and it is rude to reach inside of a tail to try and pull out a possibly living fluffbit aka a fluffle. Fluffles are theoretically able to eat tail bits to help groom Bloompuffs, but doing so will make them fat.

Some lucky Bloompuffs who are crossbred, Celestial, Godly, or even hatched can have wings! Only gods and sometimes celestials can have multiple sets though. These beautiful wings are often soft and silken and their down is a highly very sought after prize just like the fluff is but even rarer. That being said though, wings come in many shapes and sizes. Not just angelic or birdlike but even fairy, butterfly, demon, and dragon wings are possible too. Aermerean scientists have recently come up with a way to give any Bloompuff wings with a potion. But only for the right price of course, otherwise everyone would be doing it.

That being said, pretty much anything can be possible with a Bloompuff though. They have their core traits they always exhibit but some can become mutated due to environment, potions, breeding or a multitude of other factors. Mutations open up a world of possibilities for Bloompuffs, which only make each precious one more unique, so normal traits be damned go crazy with mutations and even get Merpuffs and satyr puffs! Bloompuffs are a very open minded and loving bunch so most don't exclusively breed within their own race. Most Bloompuffs that live on the surface can be quite adventurous so there are many crossbreeds and derivatives of this species.

Up on the Aermerea floating isle we have blessed puffs known as Celestials. They are the closest to the gods without being a god themselves. These babies are special because they exhibit a couple of godly traits. They are sort of like demigods in a way but with all the potential of a Godly, only lacking an official title and the duties that come with such. In very rare cases, a Bloompuff can be blessed with a godly trait if they wish and pray for it or have a godly blessing bestowed upon them.

Bloompuff reproduction is simple, and there are several ways it can occur. They can of course reproduce from coupling like most other species which can result in a live birth, or their coupling can result in an egg. Sometimes the carrying parent lays the egg or it can be removed with magic. Any gender of parents can have an egg through magic. An egg is nurtured by being wrapped in the fluff of both parents. From there it will grow and adapt, starting to bear patterns and flowers as it ages. When the flowers bloom and the pattern is fully formed it is close to hatching. All that is left is for the parents to feed it some of their magic which fully establishes the familial bond and poof a baby Bloompuff appears! In the case of a coupling that results in a live birth the process goes similar to that of a human, except the gestation is only about 4-6 months depending on the species involved in the creation of the child. An egg can take anywhere from 1 month to a year to hatch depending on nurturing and parent magic levels, and there have even been reports of the process taking longer.

Bloompuffs develop a bit faster than human children and they have the ability to halt their aging process once they reach 16 or so. Bloompuffs cannot make eggs until they come of age, which about 18 for some puffs while others might not gain the ability until they're 21 or older. These are late bloomers and usually their flowers took awhile longer to bloom in their adolescence as well. These Bloompuffs are not singled out though and there are special support groups and help for them as this issue is more common than one would think. With the changing world and times Bloompuffs have also adapted and changed, which can cause some interesting mutations as well as some traits that have only been exhibited in hatched puffs. However with the positive changes come some negative effects, such as delays in growth and maturity.

A Bloompuffs lifespan is very long. As long as they are nurtured and taken care of they can live for hundreds of years. However, they are not immortal, save for the Gods and Celestials. Puffs with a godly trait will live much, much longer than a regular puff due to the influx of divine essence from the blessing of the trait. To help you understand the duration of a Bloompuff’s lifespan a little better, a 100 year old Bloompuff is still considered to be the equivalent of a young adult, if not a teenager depending on the traits and heritage. It has been rumored that Bloompuffs created from trees live even longer than those created from flowers, but this not been proven as of yet as such Puffs are so rare they are considered to be nothing more than a myth.
