Story

INTRO CHAPTER:

The game starts with you waking up as “Alice Casio” a friendly, amicable, and sociable girl. You go to your living room where you talk to your mother, “Melody Casio” and get ready for school. At school, you talk to your two friends “Aurora” and “Annie.” Annie suggest you go ‘urban exploring’ in an abandoned factory down the street, as their old hangout spot was demolished. You reluctantly agree, and you, Aurora, and Annie skip class to go to the factory. Within the factory you find hostile “Critters” which you follow deeper into the facility until you find what appears to be a portal. Also there are “The Mayor” and his followers, “The Occultists,” who are trying to open up the portal more, thus making it unstable. They see Alice and her friends and The Mayor approaches them, his identity masked with shadows. The Occultists hold them all down, and The Mayor then touches Alice, and in a bright flash she is teleported to her bedroom, only to remember what transpired as a dream.

CHAPTER ONE - PHANTASMATA:

The next day, Alice goes to school and sees only her friend Aurora there. They talk and eventually realize they both had the same dream, before realizing “Annie” is not with them. Worried about Annie, they urgently leave class and head back to the factory to find their friend. Upon arrival, it is found out that the factory is now empty and it seems like there was nothing ever there to begin with. Despondent, the two decide to head home for the day and start fresh in the morning.

When she wakes up, Alice finds a letter addressed to her. When opened, it reads “We know. We can help.” and an address. Alice texts Aurora and they meet up, Aurora saying she got the same letter. They head to the address together, which is where they meet “Felicette” at a place called “Studio 7.” She tells them that she’ll help them get her friend back if they in turn help her with a heist (she needs small bodies). They agree, and the three set off to find Annie. Felicette mentions that it has been all over the news about the mall being overrun by Critters, and that they should check there first. Arriving at the mall the find it has indeed become overrun by Critters and have to fight their way through each shop. While fighting, they find a “Queen Critter,” which they defeat and end the continual breeding of the Critters, thus saving the mall. Continuing, they eventually find Annie. Annie, however, is not the Annie they know and has been brainwashed. They are forced to fight her, and after winning she is snapped out of it but badly hurt. This awakens Alice’s healing powers, and she heals her friend. Felicette and the trio then agree to head to bed and meet at the museum to do the heist tomorrow.

 CHAPTER 2 : THE HEIST

Tomorrow arrives, and Alice, as well as Annie and Aurora head to the museum to execute their heist. Felicette explains to the trio that they will be replacing a portrait of The Mayor with a portrait of herself. Alice asks why, and Felicette explains to them about The Mayor’s exploits and evil deeds, and that he was the one behind the factory and Annie’s kidnapping/brainwashing. She tells them that she was a double agent for “The Resistance,” an underground organization dedicated to upthroning The Mayor and making him pay. This was her “piece de la resistance” and ultimate “fuck you” to The Mayor. Thus, the heist begins and Alice and her crew replace the portrait. Afterwards, Felicette invites them to join “The Resistance” and that if they want to know more, to head to “Sins” in the red light district and ask for “Persephone.”

CHAPTER 3: SINS

The next day, Alice and friends head to the red light district to meet Persephone. They find “Sins” and go inside, only to find out it’s a brothel. They ask for Persephone, who comes and immediately knows who they are from Felicette. She explains to them she needs someone to help her get parts so they can go to the “NETverse.” Someone has apparently been thwarting their attempts to post incriminating video footage of the mayor. She gives them a list of two people to go to for parts. They head out, and the first stop is “Psy-chic,” Aurora’s mom, Moonlight’s, shop. There, they tell her they need a quartz, which she happily gives, and then they find out she is secretly part of the resistance. She also asks them that if they are heading into the forest to meet “Xavier,” to bring him a letter from her. They agree, and set out to find Xavier. They enter the forest and find his castle, which is made up of a convoluted maze that holds the secrets of The Mayor’s past. Finally finding their way in, they meet Xavier and discover he was turned into a beast-like raven form by The Mayor for defying him. He has hidden himself in the old magic academy they once shared, for he fears he will be rejected by society and his family. The trio give him the letter from Moonlight, and he realizes he was wrong all along and agrees to head back with them. Reunited with Moonlight and his daughter, Xavier is beyond happy, and gives the girls the parts they need. He also agrees to join The Resistance. Having collected all of the parts, the trio meet Persephone back at her brothel and give her the parts. She tells them that she will have the device made tomorrow and to meet her at the NETverse building downtown. The trio decide to spend the night at Alice’s place.

CHAPTER 4: THE NETVERSE

The next day, Alice wakes up to a bombardment of online harrassment. Aurora and Annie comfort her, and advise her that they should go to Persephone. They all arrive at the NETverse building and Persephone greets you with the device ready to go. Alice tells her about the online harassment and Persephone tells her she knows, and that the attacker somehow found out about their operation. However, through this she’s pinpointed the location of the attacker. They all then go into the NETverse. Within the internet, Alice and the rest of the group learn about the control of the internet and media by The Mayor, as well as a massive disinformation campaign. Everything is heavily monitored and The Mayor apparently appointed a “global moderator.” You eventually navigate your way through and find the “Troll,” who after defeating him and Persephone threatening him, he cowardly gives you the information you want, posts the video evidence online, and clears Alice’s name.

Everyone goes home for the night and the following day is met with riots in the streets over The Mayor’s convoluted plans. Turning on the T.V, the news is covering the story and telling the public about The Mayor’s evil deeds. Alice heads to City Hall to find him, but it is too crowded to get in. She then decides to wait it out and watch updates through the local news outlet. The Mayor makes a daring escape from City Hall into the Subway. The angry mob of rioters chase after him, however, they are met with an army of monsters within the subway. Forced to turn back, the crowd disperses and the subway is condemned. Persephone steps in as a placeholder for the mayor to promote a just and fair system.

CHAPTER 5: GHOST TRAIN

The next day, Alice wakes up prepared and knowing where you need to go. She meets up with the other members of The Resistance and head down into the depths of the subway system. It is visibly corrupted and full of enemies, with a train leading into a huge portal. Alice and the rest of the group board the train, which is occupied with monsters. Fighting their way through, they find themselves at the front of the train and in another dimension. That dimension is Hell. There is still a ways to go before they arrive at their destination, and Alice falls asleep to the gentle lull of the train. She dreams. Upon arrival, they exit, and the train yells at them. Alice fights the train, who tells her about the Mayor before exploding. There is a giant building in Hell that seems like the type of place The Mayor would hide out, however when you get there you are met with another Queen Critter and her babies. They all start to ridicule Alice for not having a dad, to which she starts to cry. Taken aback, the Critters then feel bad about making fun of her and agree to help.

CHAPTER 6: HELL

They take her to where The Mayor is, and Alice and the group fight him, but upon defeating him they realize he isn’t The Mayor, but Baphomet. Baphomet explains that it was him who corrupted the Mayor in order to control Earth, and he subtly hints that The Mayor is Alice’s father. Persephone threatens him the same way she threatened the Troll, and he reluctantly promises not to make anymore corrupted relics or open any portals, as well as telling them that the Mayor is really hiding in the Colosseum. He then abruptly teleports everyone back to their bed. Alice dreams of her father, a blurry figure running away from her as she ran to catch up with him, she finally does and he turns and has no face.

CHAPTER 7: COLOSSEUM

The next day, Alice goes to the colosseum, however trying to get to the colosseum proved useless, as it was blocked by a massive gate and required a key. Persephone tells her that she knows someone named “Freyja” that is a Gate Guardian. She tells her that she lives in the woods and to seek her out to find the key. Alice and company go and find Freyja, however she is unwilling to help as she is a neutral being, whose only purpose is to open and close the gates to who she deems worthy. Alice must fight her or somehow convince her in order to get her to comply. When she does, Freyja explains that she does not have the key to the gate she seeks to open, however she does know where it is. Freyja then accompanies her to a temple in the outlands, of which they navigate through and fight monsters, eventually finding the key.

CHAPTER 8: FINALE

Now having the key, Alice finally opens the gate to the colosseum and after battling her way through, finds the mayor there, desperately trying to open a portal. She tells him it’s over and that she confronted Baphomet and that he has no where else to go. They fight, and The Mayor reveals everything to Alice, however he notices he is losing the battle and quickly defaults to activating a local nuke to end everything, claiming if he can’t have power, no one can. Alice uses her psychic powers to try to stop the missile, however it pushes her to far and she ends up crushing it with her own power, thus making it explode. The explosion decimates the entire city, including Alice’s friends and mother. It leaves only her and The Mayor, who then tells her that he is her father, and that she needs to wake up because her powers are finally at their full potential. The Mayor disintegrates, and Alice finds herself alone. She is overwhelmed by her powers as she, too, starts to disappear. Everything turns white, then slowly to black.

The credits roll.
