How to Create Your Character
I.
Choosing A Tale
𝕮haracters are based off of one subject from any fairy tale, tall tale, myth, legend, or nursery rhyme. There is a list of suggestions in the Fairy Tale Claim, although, it is not all-encompassing. You may stumble upon unlisted stories out in the wild that could be okay to use - simply ask about it in the #questions channel of the Discord server, or DM a mod!
The only restriction when choosing a character to base off of is that they can not be a God or all-powerful being.
Once you've decided on a character, you may message a mod to claim them. The character will then be stricken off of the claim list.
II.
Designing Your Character
𝓐 character may be quite different from their story counterpart. By design, and perhaps gender, race, or age as well.
When possible, keep in mind the time period that your story specifies or originates from. This goes for clothing, weapons, etc. For example, Robin Hood is based within the real world, during early medieval times. Therefore, he would not have access to guns, a switchblade, or the like, and would dress in period-appropriate clothing, so no zippers or rubber.
Of course, when appropriate, fantasy elements that fit the story's world are more than welcome. And we do not expect you to do extensive research on time periods (unless you really want to), so it doesn't have to be perfect - just a general idea of what they may or may not have had access to.
The only exception is, if you want to dress your character in the Steampunk / Victorian era garb of Amaiera. Though, more often than not, members choose to wait to do this until revamping the application, after the character has lived there for awhile.
Your character may also have multiple forms. For example, if they are based off an animal within their story, it's recommended that they have both a humanized and animal form. Or, maybe they have a monster form that they hide. They may also have a form that exists somewhere in-between the two.
III.
Backstory & Personality
𝖄our character’s background only vaguely has to resemble the fairy tale are from. You may include and exclude aspects of the original as you please. Please keep the time period the same, if there is one.
If it is a background character/extra, you are free to write whatever you wish for them since they do not technically have a plot of their own. Just be sure that it is consistent to the setting.
You are not required to collaborate with other characters from the same fairy tale as you - but, it is highly encouraged, especially if the two characters are close-knit in the original story. You may wish to collaborate, write backstories and headcanons together, having them recognize each other in the current world, among many other fun possibilities.
Backstories are always reviewed and approved by a moderator.
IV.
Occupations
𝓣he world of Amaiera offers many opportunities to those within its realm. Your character may choose to do something that aligns with what they did in their previous world, or perhaps something entirely new.
If your character decides to open their own shop or business that other may interact with, please specify what it is that they do on their app, as well as message a mod so that you can give a list of details such as the name of the business, what it offers, and where it is located. It may even have its own open RP channel in the Discord.
They may also be unemployed, or perhaps, something more unsavory...

Statistics & Abilities
Part I. Statistics
𝕴nspired by Dungeons and Dragons, the characters of Amaiera each have a stat block that consists of seven attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. This allows us to implement a simple dice rolling system that allows for randomized, fair character interactions, especially during combat.
Each stat starts at 8 points, and members will have a total of 27 extra points to spend on increasing them. The total number of points in a stat will determine the total bonus or penalty included when making a dice roll using said stat.
A stat can be reduced to 6 in order to gain more points to alot, but will come with its own detriments - deductions to rolls. It is recommended to take caution when deciding to utilize this.
Stat increases may be rewarded in the future as the characters progress through the story.
Strength: Physically speaking, this is how your character would perform when it comes to lifting things, pushing, grappling, disarming and overpowering others. Sometimes, intimidation can be switched to here, if the character is visually a threat through their size or strength alone.
Dexterity: This is the means of being swift on their feet, agile, performing maneuvers, acrobatics, being able to vault over obstacles, or even the distance that they can run. Sneaking also is included in this. If your character is big, or wears clunky clothing/armor, or tends to be clumsy, this is not a skill they will likely develop.
Constitution: How hardy your character is. Whether they are trying to shrug off the effects of a poison, ignore the pain of a wound... Down to simpler things such as seeing if they can keep that last drink down or how long they can hold their breath.
Intelligence: Book smarts. The ability to write, read, absorb a lot of information… Deciphering, researching, all constitute as intellect. If they have any basic education, they will likely have an 8 or more in this stat as that is the average for an educated human.
Wisdom: This is essentially how perceptive your character is. A person with high wisdom will more readily realize they are being charmed or swindled by another, observe the slight ticks of a person who is lying. Maybe they will notice the trap on the ground or that bush is poisonous.
Charisma: If your character is good around others, this is the stat for them. Perhaps they are a great leader, or extremely charming. They can convince someone to make a deal with them. On the other hand, it can also be used for things like intimidating and lying to others.
Click here for a website to help you with the point-buy system of determining stats.
The positive and negative numbers under the "Ability Modifier" section will change as you adjust the scores. This will be the number that you add to dice rolls for actions requiring that specific stat.
Notice the "Total Points" in the bottom right. Do not go above 27 points when adjusting your ability scores.
𝕯epending on your character's proficiency in fighting or defending themselves, they may have bonuses or detriments added to their rolls. A character that has no experience fighting may subtract a set number from each roll, making them more likely to fail. Perhaps they are a glass cannon - someone who does a lot of damage, but has a detriment to their defense because they are otherwise frail if they get caught out.
These stats may also change depending on if the character has a weapon, is wearing armor, uses a magical shield ability, can heal themselves, etc.
As you can tell, this is a very case-by-case basis. Feel it out depending on your character. Don't be afraid to give them detriments, because it makes roleplaying more fun!
If your character has multiple forms, they will need different stats for each of them. Since their physical appearance changes, so too will their bonuses and detriments. Adjust them accordingly to how the forms differ, and please include both in your application.
Part II. Abilities
𝕮haracters may have special abilities or magic that they can preform during RPs. They will be rolled for using dice, and recieve the bonuses or deductions from their stats. They may also give their own benefits, such as affecting the amount of damage they take. Or even, granting advantage - meaning, you are able to roll the dice a second time, and take the better result of the two.
You may be as extensive with this list as you wish, or maybe just have a few staples that the character tends to go to in an emergency. Of course, do not make your character too overpowered using these. They should be within the realm of what the character can innately do, or was practiced in or trained for.
They can also have passive abilites - for example, they may be able to breathe underwater, or power through a certain number of devastating attacks.
Please, we implore you to take a look at existing characters' abilities to inspire you!

Filling The Applications
Part I. Visual Application
𝕱illing out the visual application is a great way to show your character to everyone at a single glance. It has everything one would need to know to start roleplaying with them!
To download at full size, right click the image and "Open Image in New Tab". Then, left click to zoom in, and right click again to "Save Image As..." This ensures that you have the highest quality possible! Don't forget to save your finished project as a .PNG to preserve the transparent edges!
- Within the left-hand empty space, a full-body drawing of your character.
- In the circular border, a headshot. If desired, this may simply be an enlarged version of their face from the full-body drawing, or, you can get creative and show a different angle, expression, or funny doodle.
- Below that, a drawing or description of their weapon of choice, magic, etc.
- Basic information of your character goes in the box on the right.
- State your characters attack & defense bonuses (or detriments) in the bottom left.
- Make a statistic graph in the octagon to visually show where your character is strongest and weakest. The middle is 6 points, while the border represents 17 points. See below for a more specific guide.
- Finally, the top banner is where you should put your character's part that they play within their story. (e.g. Ariel)
- The smaller banner below that is where you state the story that they originate from. (e.g. The Little Mermaid)
- On the right side, I've marked the actual numbers of the stats.
- On the left side, I've shown which stats grant which bonuses, for ease of use.
If you need help filling out the visual application, don't be afraid to reach out to a mod or veteran member! We are more than happy to assist. ♥
