Economy

Riterra is similar in a lot of ways to our own Earth, but where there are similarities there are also many differences. At its core, Riterra is a Meritocracy with a healthy dose of capitalism to reward those who show true talent (either in economics or sheer brute force)

Good and Services

As one would expect, a lot of trade is around common necessities: food, water, shelter. Production of luxury goods is usually regulated to the continent of Nabhon, while a good chunk of food production is in the vast open lands of Libertera, with Selvica and Kalanichi handling the lesser majorities.

Outside of necessities and luxury goods, there lies the issue of Resonators. Resonators themselves as well as goods to aid in their usage (such as tuners, battle attire, and rubato crystals) are major driving forces in the economy. Rarer, more exotic Resonators tend to fetch large sums in the collector's market, whilst lineages containing favorable battling traits or pedigrees attract more competitively minded battlers.

There is a massive service industry in relation to maestros and resonators, with the government paying out nearly 95% of cash rewards to maestros for their work. This comes in the form of scherzando extermination, with a much smaller portion going to those maestros who seek a career in competitive battling. As such, there needs to be a support structure for these enterprises, including people to run the Maestro Affair's Offices dotted around the world as well as tournament organizers and staff.

Banks, Money, and Class

It is possible to make money simply by spending money, but this is usually for those who have very weak rhythm potential or some aversion to Resonators. By far the easiest way to make money in this world is by utilizing resonators or work in an industry involving them.

Currency

The system of currency is handled by the government and is a fiat currency, based entirely on the work of Maestros. Maestros make money from contracts from the government and spend money in various industries which spreads that money across the economy as a whole.

As for the actual measure of currency, it is broken up into Notes and Sharps. The Notes would be your whole dollar, with Sharps being the coins. Sharps are always valued at .25, everything is based off of quartered numbers. For example, an item costing 4.50 would be four notes two sharps. Sharps are coins with notes being paper money. 4.51 or 4.49 wouldn't be valid prices.

Banking

The Marenza Union is the primary banking institution and controls the storage and transfer of all money on Riterra. These days most money is digital with digital transfers being so commonplace that paper and coin money is on the rarer side. With the advent of rhythm reading technology, it's easier than ever to secure one's pocketbook as rather than having physical money that can be stolen, most citizens use their rhythm as a sort of fingerprint to pay for goods and services.

One can physically withdraw money at any Marenza Union branch, but it's always given with an air of skepticism, given newer notes and sharps are found with unscrupulous individuals trying to make payments for illicit goods and/or services without leaving any kind of trail to their activities.

Perception

Generally, most people don't have a problem with the current economic system and distribution of wealth, as in receiving payment the recipient knows work was done to obtain said currency. Poverty is looked down upon since there is plenty of work available in the eyes of the common citizen. Wealthy individuals are typically also stronger, leading to a small bit of fear of those with significantly large pocketbooks. Though this is an incentivizing force for the maestros of the world to become stronger either by self-improvement or by obtaining stronger resonators.

Resonators

There is no law or governance around Resonators possessing capital wealth (either physical objects or straight cash. However, most maestros (and even a lot of Resonators) don't respect wealthy resonators the same way they would a maestro of the same status. Some powerful entrepreneurial will rent themselves out to maestros looking to have a strong resonator either as a bodyguard or acting as a tool. These resonators are typically looked down upon by their peers as lesser citizens.
