Investigation

• Basic Information •

Jupiter Landing is a small Appalachian town that was established in the early 1700's and thrived during the 18th and 19th centuries thanks to the railroad industry. The town gets its name because of the way that the main lake reflects the planet Jupiter on the Winter Solstice. However, the residents of this small, former rail-road hub are long acquainted with grief and mystery. Legends of mysteriously missing people and unsolved murders can be traced back to the land before the town was even established, and they permeate the town's history and are noticeable in the present- if one looks underneath the picturesque facade.

Located in the misty mountains of real-world Virginia, Jupiter Landing behaves like any real town. All brands, social media, trends, histories, conspiracy theories, major events, societal expectations and elements of reality are present. However, because there was a flood that wiped out a lot of residents in the late 1800's and the railroad industry that used to breathe life into the town has all but died, the community has become a somewhat literal ghost town.

Main Street

There may not be much going on in town, but Mainstreet is definitely the commercial and social center. If there's anything someone would need, or anything to go do, Mainstreet is your best bet of finding it. If you're going to find it in Jupiter Landing at all.

Solomon Plantation

The affordable neighborhoods closest to Mainstreet are where the majority of Jupiter Landing's citizens live, and the more wealthy families (a couple of rare lineages that have chosen to remain in town after the railroad died) live further away, closer to the deep, dark forest that surrounds the town. Because the town itself is so small but had a more illustrious past, most of the smaller plots of land where the neighborhoods are now once belonged to a single wealthy family. Hence the name of this district.

Summit House Forest

The forest that surrounds Jupiter Landing is dark, deep, and mysterious. The forest has re-claimed a good amount of the land that has been abandoned from the town when most of the population moved away, so there is a number of abandoned and decrepit mansions that seem to appear from nowhere in the forest. The lake that gave Jupiter Landing its name is also in these woods. The large freshwater lake was originally half its size, but the dam that kept the lowest parts of the town from being flooded burst in the 1800's. It is rumored that the remains of the flooded section of the town have been preserved in the depths of the lake, which may have something to do with the Lake's somewhat mythic aura. The lake, and some sections of the Summit House forest, are rumored to be incredibly haunted. Some aspects of the forest, such as the notorious area known as The Wreck, are actually banned for visitation for unclear reasons. The Summit House Forest was named for the imposing and impressive estate up on a hill overlooking the lake and the town, the Strawberry Mansion.

The Railtracks

The outskirts of town are known as 'the Railtracks' since they are dotted along the old train tracks that lead into town and curve along the Lake and weave like a serpant through the forest. Most of the buildings in this district are next to the Lake one one side and the woods on the other. The railtracks are considered to be where the not-so-reputable individuals hang out, but the railtracks are also home to the local hospital and police station. It's sort of like the last stop in town before entering into the sea of trees.

Character Information

| Characters Accepted || Characters Not Accepted |
Normal people (normal human beings that live in a reality exactly like our own)

Supernatural people (Normal people that have supernatural abilities, Your witches, psychics, clairvoyants, mediums, voodoo priests and priestesses, Satanists, conduits)

Spirits (the spirits of Normal or Supernatural people that have lived their lives and have died in some point in the past. Preferably, ghosts that apply to these criteria (http://fav.me/d9k625a). Phantoms, specters, revenants and shadow people are fair game as well, as long as they were a person once and have since died.
Demons/Angels (Characters with stories that reference these sorts of creatures are fine, but they themselves have to be kept in the metaphysical/hypothetical and not be actually concrete. Characters that are demons/angels themselves are a big no no), Gods and Goddesses, (again, characters with stories that reference gods and goddesses are totally fine. But a character in this town's story cannot be that they are a god or goddess. You can have a character that's like 'oh I worship Demeter' or 'I believe I was Demeter in a past life' but you cannot have a character that is canonically Demeter.) Cryptids/Fairies/Aliens (again, keeping things in the realm of limiting existence of these things to the hypothetical or conspiracy theory side of things. Characters can have stories where they believe they were abducted by aliens or witnessed bigfoot, but they can't have any proof. That sort of goes for all the types of characters that are not accepted) Also: God-modding is not permitted. Characters cannot have absurd amounts of power.

Please message the mod if you have a character you think would fit well in the town!
