YUMENARI LORE: GODS AND DIVINE MESSENGERS

YUMENARI GODS

THE GODS that goven the Yumenari Cove are rarely seen and are quite mysterious―whether that's because of a heavy workload, or the opposite, no one is quite sure... However on the rare occasion where they do show themselves in person, it's seen as a big event.

As of right now, we are aware of three deities...

NEMURI
MOTHER OF ALL YUMENARI

Nemuri is the very first Yumenari, and she is often refered to as The Origin or Mother of all Yumenari. It was her who created the Goddess of Dreams, Shirayuri, as well as her sister, the Goddess of Nightmares, Kannazuki. Because of this, Nemuri is neither Dream nor Nightmare and has the attributes of both. Unlike her children, she personally doesn’t deliver dreams to humans, though she could give both Dreams and Nightmares if she so chose. Instead, she believes strongly in delegation-though whether it's out of streamlining the work or sheer laziness, no one knows.

She sleeps for the majority of the time, only waking once every hundered years for one month to descend from her mountain ( named Mount Nemuri ) to greet the Yumenari of the Cove. During the time she that sleeps, she communicates her orders by dreams to the other Gods-as well as to her Divine Messenger, Lullaby.

As the Origin and Mother of all Yumenari, she is capable of creating Yumenari of any type, however often abstains from doing so. It seems that she holds the few Yumenari she does create in very high esteem, and treats them as her own children-thus, she is unwilling to create too many of them at once.

Nemuri is extremely ancient, older than the other Gods by centuries. Due to this, she is held in even higher reverence than Shirayuri and Kannazuki; this, paired with her long periods of rest, make her the most mysterious of the Yumenari Gods. She is clearly in a different league than the others, who often check in with the Yumenari of the cove to bless them directly. Nemuri, however, rarely gives out blessings, and usually only in the time she descends from her mountain.

SHIRAYURI
The Goddess of DREAMS

As one of the first Yumenari born from Nemuri, she created Dream Yumenari as her own children and has tasked them with giving out pleasant dreams to the denizens of the human world. She is worshiped by Dream Yumenari, while also being their leader, and gives them orders through her Divine Messenger, Hajime.

KANNAZUKI
The Goddess of NIGHTMARES

As one of the first Yumenari born from Nemuri, she is the creator of all Nightmare Yumenari and she personally sees them as her children. Her business rarely allows her time one-on-one with her Nightmares, so she orders them to deliver nightmares to the human world, and gives them messages through Nanachi, her Divine Messenger.

Perhaps, more gods will reveal themselves later on, so be sure to watch for such events...

DIVINE MESSENGERS are special, and considered separate from your average, normal Yumenari. The very first Yumenari created by each of the Gods were the the first Divine Messengers, and they were extremely special and close to the Gods. They thought of them as their own child, much more so than other Yumenari. At the end of their lives, when these Messengers grew tired and wished to be reincarnated, they did not go into the vast pool of magic like other Yumenari-instead, they were directly reincarnated, with only their memories removed. This means that the current Messengers have the exact same magic as the very first Yumenari!

Because they are a direct reincarnation, each Messenger is personally raised by the Gods to prepare them for their duties. It's a heavy duty to bear; thus the reason for the direct reincarnation, as it makes them suited to dealing with the responsibilities come with the title of "Divine Messenger". Not only are they the bridge between the citizens and the divine, but they also oversee the general goings on in the Cove, so they have quite a hefty workload!

Despite having a much different childhood than other Yumenari, it is for the overall wellness of the Cove... not to mention, this special hand raising means Messengers get doted on quite a lot by the gods. You could even call them spoiled! Despite this gap, all Messengers try their best to be friendly and approachable to other Yumenari, so that they can do whatever they can to keep the Cove at its best!

Despite having no actual memories, Messengers do have an imprint left on them from their previous lives. This means that they can have leftover impressions and feelings about certain Yumenari they used to know, even if they don’t remember them. Although, those impressions and feelings may change as they grow older! Even though they are directly reincarnated, their personalities and preferences aren’t exactly the same as previous Messengers, as they are their own people. So even despite their instinctual feelings for someone, they can still have their own thoughts and opinions on them.
