ABOUT

Welcome to the Hoodwing Kingdom! Here, you will find the majority of Hoodwing lore. This world does not allow membership - do not request it.

  • Hoodwings are a closed species/ closed Wings of Fire fanflight.
  • Hoodwings can be used in their official Wings of Fire AU, personal stories, and other worlds (with restrictions).
  • They can be used in an upcoming official ARPG!
  • You can earn cool stuff through events!
  • Easy to understand character stats (once ARPG launches).
  • Lots of custom worldbuilding to use for your own hoodwings! No need to go completely from scratch.
  • Tons of design variety and non-strict trait rules!

Hoodwings are a Wings of Fire fantribe originally created by voxel.ito ! While linked to the Wings of Fire world, Hoodwings exist in their own version of the universe where lore has slightly changed to accomodate the new content and characters. Hoodwings are a closed species and can be obtained through adopts and customs from staff or by earning them in events.

Hoodwings live in a kingdom on Phyrria. Their kingdom owns the bottom west corner of the continent, encompassing part of the desert, rainforest, and the old Nightwing territory on the "Claw" of the landmass. Most of their region is a mesa. Lots of custom worldbuilding has been done to create a lively, realistic fan-made Phyrria kingdom, with a new take on technology and history too.

Worldbuilding is a Work in Progress, but there's a lot to explore already! The majority of worldbuilding work is done by aaimasqtch , so if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to message them!

TECHNOLOGY

During the time of the Sandwing Succession, hoodwings had all the typical technologies: lanterns, scrolls, books, boats, handheld weapons, armor, a bit of medical knowledge. However, at the time they were also a bit farther along than the other flights, hosting street markets, confectionary works, and eyeglasses. That was 2,000+ years ago.

During Wadjet's reign, the flight entered into an industrial era and introduced plumbing systems, glasswork, mining, coal power, and basic machinery. Soon after, a group of Pantala diplomats came to the Hood Kingdom and helped advance science and make existing technologies more effecient. The flight's knowledge in botany, horticulture, plumbling, architecture techniques, genetics, chemistry, biology, and medicine greatly expanded. All of this new technology spread into daily life over time.

During Astrea's reign, there were a lot of astronomy advancements. New star charts, planetary discoveries, proper telescopes, and detailed maps of continents and geological records were made. Large libraries were made, hundreds of thousands new books were written and scientific studies were on the rise. Excellent anatomy studies came about which expanded medicinal and biological knowledge. Modernized prosthetics rose in popularity too.

SPECIES

Hoodwings have snake-like rattles and expandable hoods; slender-tipped wings suited for fast and nimble flying; forked tongues. Smaller in stature than most tribes, they tend to be more slender than bulky. They come in a variety of colors, mostly earth tones and natural colors. Hoodwings never have extremely saturated colors, and are rarely ever colored pink or purple- and if so, their scales are very muted.

Hood Patterns

Hood patterns are typically very unique, but often carry one common marking within bloodlines; dragons from prominent families can often be identified by their hood pattern. For instance, Hoodwings with royal lineage have a diamond in the center of their hoods. (Please don’t put a diamond on your dragon’s hood unless they are of royal blood.)

Classes

Hoodwings have six basic classifications that effect their stature, venom potency, and defining features: Crotalus, Viper, Adder, Python, Mamba and Cobra. (Cobra is exclusive to royal hoodwings)

Abilities

Hoodwings have fangs that can inject varying degrees of venom. Depending on the classification of dragon, they may have retractable or fixed fangs.

Rattles

Hoodwing’s have a second language referred to as Ratta; Hoodwings rattle their tails at different frequencies and in different patterns to communicate with each other.

Animus

Animus information is currently unavailable.

Weaknesses

Hoodwings tend to lack in brute strength, with the exception of the classifications of Adder and Python. They may be quick and nimble fliers, but they also have very low stamina; they tend to struggle flying longer distances.

Mutations

Mutations effect the outward appearance of a Hoodwing that severely differenciates them from other Hoodwings. Some mutations are harmless, cool-looking, or dangerous for the individual who is born with it. Some mutations are class exclusive, and some only occur in specific hybrid mixes.

Behavior

Hoodwings are a somewhat reserved tribe, they tend to be very honorable but stubborn. They are progressive with technology and education, along with collaborative with other kingdoms, but the interest of their own kingdom and kind always comes first.

Relationships

Hoodwings mate for life and form strong bonds with family members and offspring. Hoodwings that are together often develop distinctive rattles they use to call to each other. Married hoodwings sometimes wear matching rattle rings.

Diet

They are omnivores and eat most desert and mesa creatures. They particularly love cacti.
