THE WORLD AS THE MAWTHS SEE IT
Mawths are a race of beings from a world in the not-far-off Kepler-62 system (about 1,200 light years away from Earth). The planet they live on is "Kepler-62f" according to humans, but for the Mawths, their home is lovingly called Efferia. Efferia is a lot like Earth is: there are mountains, a great ocean, some plains, and many many many waterfalls. The great ocean is a mostly inhospitable saltwater environment that takes up close to 88% of the world. The landmasses left are giant Pangaeas and have grown upward with mighty cliffs that contain freshwater springs that cascade down into the land and sea as magnificent waterfalls. The largest of these islands is VALE. The most lush, however, is Aneitha, a beautiful rainforest...
Some Mawths live in organized clans under the direct leadership of Makena, the official ruling clan leader. Some are more like outcasts but still come home to their respective home clans for various reasons at certain times of the year ... or for protections afforded by having more Mawths around!
The ocean is vast and simply called "the sea." Formidable creatures live in the deep, and Mawths are fully equipped to handle them! With sharp and sturdy spears, these carnivorous beings enter the sea on the regular to swim for fun and for food.
SOCIETY AND PERSONALITY
Mawths are more serious creatures and take a less modern approach to life. Simplicity, tradition and family are valued among the Mawth. Some Mawths even practice what modern-day humans would consider to be witchcraft [tho with a vast degree more success].
Mawths are not naturally inclined to violence or deviance, tho some are born with these inclinations. Despite this, they are always ready to defend themsevles and are very good at defense and hunting. They lack the inhibitions of humans though and have a strong sense of family and desire to form bonds beyond simple friendships - some Mawths have such a strong desire for this that they form these bonds with many!
Mawths tattoo themselves for a variety of reasons. It could be to commemorate a special kill/hunt, showcase achievement to a certain age [Mawths, at age 10, receive their specially made spear!], count their children or partners, and more! Mawths love to decorate their surroundings and themselves, not just by tattooing but also with shiny objects they find in the sea... The reflective surface inside some shells, referred to as mother-of-pearl, is their most favorite!
Mawths wear very little when going around. Not only is it hot and humid in the rainforest, but they need to be able to move swiftly through trees, in water, and be able to BREATHE [ie do not cover any of your Mawths' mouths!].
AGE, GROWTH, and BREEDING
Mawths live to be about the age of 150 but some have been known to live longer than that. They reach adolescence around the age of 10 where they go through a ceremony to receive their specially made spear, something they have undoubtedly practiced for endlessly as a child.
Mawths have 'typical' gender parts and can be of any orientation/identity. They form bonds with and have families with anyone their heart desires. Their mating process is simple but conception must occur on or near a full moon. Mawths determine birthdays by moon phases and usually are incredibly independent - so much so that they have daycare keepers to watch, protect and train unattended children as parents often leave their children for long periods of time to hunt and play.
RELIGION AND TRADITIONS
Mawths are spiritual versus religious. They believe in the power and force of nature, and they show a deep reverence and respect for their world around them. They thank the land and sea for what it provides in food and necessities, and they farm to give back to the land and sea as well. They never take more than they need to survive.
DIET
Mawths have a varied diet BUT almost always prefer meat over anything else, specifically seafood. While they will eat all types of foods and do so to ensure they receive the necessary nutrients to live in a hot and humid paradise, they are carnivorous by nature and prefer the blessings that the sea offers in the form of large sea monsters filled with delicious eggs and meat!
