8 DAYS LEFT - Blossomfall's 2nd Opening

Posted 1 month, 14 hours ago (Edited 4 days, 18 hours ago) by FunnyboneFubbler

Hey, you! Do you want to plunge into a world of sword fighting mice and dastardly wildcat warlords? A world of adventure, drama, religious conflict and violence, with a dash of existential dread for good measure?!

Well, you’ve come to the right place - welcome to Blossomfall.

Blossomfall is a DnD based, Discord-exclusive ARPG group with a grand plot for your character to follow along. Join the adventure! Face the perils! See your character remembered in the scrolls for time immemorial. But whether they're remembered as hero or villain.... Well. That's up to you, isn't it? Tell the tale of one of many little critters living in a densely realised medieval-era world populated by other beasts of varying shapes, sizes and personalities, half of whom want to slit your throat and steal your precious vittles. It's a dangerous world out there, think you have the courage to traverse it?

The main inspiration behind Blossomfall and its setting is the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, but you don't need to have read or even heard of the book series to enjoy your time here; you may notice some subtle nods and homages to other animal-centric series such as The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, Warrior Cats, as well as interesting tidbits from medieval history and animal facts - thus cementing Blossomfall as both a love letter to nature, xenofiction and medieval culture *and* an affectionate but careful evolution of Redwall that any animal or fantasy lover can have fun with.

That being said, Blossomfall is a 15+ group, and you are required to be both a writer and artist to join, especially as producing art of any kind is vital to gaining currency, participating in special events, and more importantly crafting and roleplaying a fleshed out character who'll enrich the story instead of hinder it.

But.. if you think you can take it.. then please, continue reading..

REQUIREMENTS

Art AND writing skills

As this is an ARPG (Art Roleplaying Group) as well as a standard D&D inspired group, to join Blossomfall you will need both drawing and writing skills. You could be a skilled artist or a talented writer, but not one or the other. This also means you will not be able to get others to draw/write for you or, god forbid, use AI. As for skill levels, we’re much more lenient when it comes to drawing - as long as we can figure out what it is you’re drawing, then it’s good enough for us! Writing, however, we are stricter on. As a major part of Blossomfall is the player-created main cast, we only want writers with enough skill and patience to not only craft unique, interesting characters, but to help progress the sessions and story without hindering them. Essentially, we want writers who:

-will, each session (of which there are 2 per week), write a minimum of 5 sentences per post and 5 posts per session.

-will write characters ripe for development and who each have the opportunity to progress the story in interesting and engaging ways, while also keeping other players engaged.

-will not develop “Main Character Syndrome” and overshadow both players and moderators and hijack the story, and will instead allow opportunities for other players to make their own impacts on the story.

Some (at the very least) basic knowledge of Dungeons and Dragons gameplay

It isn’t majorly required, as players are able to gradually learn the ropes of D&D over the course of the campaign, but it is required to at least have, at the very least, some mild understanding of the rules. This is so then the mods aren’t constantly having to give lectures each time an uniformed player wants to roll! If you want to know the basic gist of Blossomfall D&D, read our own document on the matter.

Time and activity

This is one of the biggest requirements if you want to join Blossomfall, for so many players have been unable to participate in the group because the times didn’t suit them. Only players willing to stick with the group as long as they can will be accepted. If you have extreme difficulties with time zone differences or feel that you otherwise won’t be able to attend both weekly sessions, then maybe this group isn’t for you. As mentioned, we have had a lot of players leave the group because the times weren’t suitable for them and therefore didn’t attend sessions as much, hindering the pacing as a result - so please, CHOOSE WISELY. Can you tell we’ve had a lot of issues with this?

TIMES

Goodbeasts - 9pm to 11pm, GMT, Sunday and Monday

Vermin - 12pm to 2pm, GMT, Saturday and Sunday

PICKABLE SPECIES & PLAYER SLOTS

For each team (Goodbeasts and Vermin) the ideal player count is 8 - 4 COMMON species, 3 UNCOMMON species, and 1 RARE species. Though we can go below this number, we at the very least would like someone to apply for the rare species on the Vermin team, that being the wolverine, as they are quite important to the campaign. (Which you can read more about here.) So far, here are the species available for the picking:

COMMON BEASTS (up to 4 players per team)

For the Goodbeasts - the Mouse, the Squirrel, the Hedgehog, the Mole

For the Vermin - the Rat, the Weasel, the Stoat, the Ferret

UNCOMMON BEASTS (up to 3 players per team)

For the Goodbeasts - the Songbird, the Hare, the Otter

For the Vermin - the Raven, the Fox, the Wildcat

the RARE BEAST(1 player per team)

For the Goodbeasts - the Badger

For the Vermin - the Wolverine (NEEDED)

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this and (hopefully) join the Discord, it really helps out. If you want to support the group further, be sure to spread the word of Blossomfall around! Friends, strangers, dogs, whatever works (as long as they’re artists, writers and have Discord) - the unfortunate consequence of basing your roleplaying campaign on a somewhat obscure children’s book series is that because not a lot of people know the inspiration, they have less of a reason or motivation to join the group, despite all the love and effort that’s been put into Blossomfall, both by moderators and pre-existing players.

So anything helps, really - the more the merrier, after all!

(also if you want, you can post whether you’re interested or not, just to know)

ThePretzelPrince

Imo, this sounds like a very fun server, but the requirements of both art and writing skills is a bit harsh. I enjoy writing very much, and consider it my forte, as it is also easier than drawing, so I usually just commission art of others. That’s already a pretty high ask of people and makes the whole thing feel sort of exclusive. It should be enough to be skilled in either or and make the events and such fitting for the respective area, to cater towards a larger audience and be more inclusive.

Heyo ThePretzelPrince - thanks for the feedback! I should have probably elaborated on that point further.. I’ll edit it when I have the chance - thanks again!

I am very much interested in joining, but I’m a bit worried that I won’t be a good fit considering I’ve 1) never read any of the Redwall series (I’ve been meaning to though!) And 2) Have never participated in a D&D campaign

I absolutely meet all of the other requirements though! (in my very most humble opinion tehe) I can draw, I can write, and I have lots of time on my hands. I’d be happy to join y’all!!

FunnyboneFubbler

Heyo smolnfloofy ! I should DEFINITELY edit this post because there’s a lotta things that I haven’t put up here that I should have.. but just know that 1) you don’t need to have read or even heard of Redwall to join, you just need to love animals and fantasy stuff - and 2) you don’t need to have been in a D&D campaign to join, it’s completely fine to learn as you go! When I said “basic knowledge” I literally meant like, knowing how to roll for stats n actions n stuff - on the Discord server there are documents which can help you out with the more complicated aspects of D&D - so you’d fit right in, and I’d be happy for you to try out!
